Thanks to the touch and power of the internet, Stan Bush's classic Transformers: The Movie ballad, "The Touch," is heading to Guitar Hero -- for free. The drive started when Kotaku blogger, Michael Fahey, refused to give up on helping Bush see his wish to have the song featured in Guitar Hero and/or Rock Band granted. After exchanging emails with Bush himself, Fahey looked to his blog's readers to pester Activision and Harmonix until one (or both) caved.
Earlier this week, Bush contacted Transformers resource site, Seibertron, and dropped the bomb: "The Touch" would be made available in Guitar Hero -- presumably World Tour -- for free (exactly when, though, is still unknown). The grateful Bush then wrote in to personally thank Fahey and the fans who made it all possible. Oh internet, is there anything you can't do?

Instruments of Destruction, the song that plays when the Decepticons start killing pansy Autobot ass in the beginning of the movie, is about 10000000x better than than lame ass "the touch". It's just another lame meme that most people never heard but now act like it's cool and nostalgic and not a horrible song.

Who the cares what you think oolz, you're an asshole Decepticon lover. I'll take the cheesy 80's rock over a wannabe Megadeath track.

I'd actually prefer Dare, but I'll take The Touch. I'm actually a fan of the 80's cheese, so I'm genuinely pumped; sorry.

I've been saying this since Harmonix/EA said that they were looking into getting songs from musicals on Rock Band!
On a related note, I'm going to see a Hedwig and the Angry Inch cover band this weekend. I can't wait!

I had the good fortune of seeing John Cameron Mitchell live in San Francisco, Valentine's Day weekend. He did a live commentary of Hedwig, and even performed a few songs from the show. If I had the chutzpah, I would've tried to approach him after the show and ask him directly about working with Harmonix. Shame on my weak spine!

Feel good story of the day! Looks like I won't get it on my GHIII though, huh? I'm not getting WT, so I will have to go without, but I'm glad others can jam out, nostalgia style.
what really suprises me is that once upon a time, I thought this was the greatest song ever. Literally. But i went back and got Transformers on DVD a few years ago and heard the song, i was a little let down. whatever, still great news for anyone who remembers the song from the 80's. It would still be a great GH song I think. It reminds me a little of "the best around" from Karate Kid I. But that song stood the test of time a little better in my book.

You're not the only one who thought "The Touch" was the baddest song around. I would get SO FREAKING PUMPED every time I watched the Transformers movie as a kid, simply because of it. A feeling of insurmountable power would overwhelm me, and then I'd run outside to conquer evil with extreme prejudice.
I also second your comments regarding the fine lyrics: "You're the best around! No one's gonna ever keep ya down!"

Maybe not, but you can get a decent score singing "Gump" to "Lump" in Rock Band. :D
You could probably manage "My Sharona"/"My Bologna" as well.
And if Guitar Hero's your thing, "Beat It" is available. (I don't have GH, so I can't say how it'll score when you're singing "Eat It".)

My thought exactly.
I say we don't let up until Rock Band gets it, too.
Either that, or petition them to make the DLC as cross-compatible as the instruments. >:]

And what does he get for it? He becomes the next leader of the Autobots. WTH?!
When Prime comes back, reclaims the Matrix, and blasts Hot Rod in the chest, that was the greatest moment in Saturday morning cartoon television right there.

Two things:
1) This is one of the greatest moments in video game history right here. GOD BLESS THE INTERNET!
2) Hot Rod/Rodimus Prime was the greatest Transformer of all time. Hot Rod was young and unsure of himself when he was forced to grow up to save the Autobots, taking the mantle of Rodimus Prime. Like a REALISTIC hero, he wasn't perfect and a 100% generic cliche like Optimus Prime. Of course he wanted what was best for his people, but he still had to struggle with his internal conflicts and mistakes that often come with youth. This character was so far ahead of his time, it's not even funny.
I hope when Optimus died, he suffered more than anyone in the history of fictional robotic deaths.

If you missed out on Transformers: The Movie when it was current, then I'm afraid you missed out on the Magic, and you will never have another opportunity to experience it as the rest of us have.
Sorry.

So I've been going to the Comic-Con for years now. I've ran into Kevin Smith several times, told Sid Haig where to find the pisser and had the privilege to escort Carrie Fisher from her signing table to the exit from the convention hall. But who was the only dude who got me all tongue tied when I met him? STAN BUSH! Transformers: The Movie was such a huge thing for me when I was growing up, and Mr. Bush's songs made that movie even more awesome. This is some great news.

Welp, that settles it. I'm getting Guitar Hero world tour :P
It'd be awesome if all the Transformers movie songs were put over, too.
"Nothing's gonna stand in our way" and "Instruments of Destruction" are pretty cool too

oh yea, wouldn't it be sweet if Optimus Prime and other Autobots replaced your virtual avatars while you played this song? Optimus Prime on vocals. Blaster on the drums maybe. Or maybe Blaster would be in his radio form and be blasting the music to the crowd :P

I'd love to see the entire soundtrack rather than just one song. I had the cassette back in the day and downloaded it on itunes back when the live action movie came out (got instruments of destruction playing in the computer right now). The touch is pretty good but there are 5 other kick ass songs on the soundtrack. "Nothing's gonna stand in our way" is my favorite.
That's my big problem with these games I want entire albums not just single tracks.
