At least that's what Mr. Diesel, owner of Chronicles of Riddick: Assault on Dark Athena co-developer Tigon Studios, told G4TV's X-Play this week. When asked if his studio's upcoming remake of 2004's Chronicles of Riddick: Escape from Butcher Bay will feature online multiplayer, he had this to say: "Big props to the whole team working on this because we were well into production in the game and I begged for some multiplayer component on this and everyone rose to the occasion and created something really compelling."
And we must say, between the recently released Riddick demo on Xbox Live and Diesel's starring role in Wheelman, the actor turned development studio owner has been making quite a name for himself in the video game industry. Now all we need is a Vin Diesel/50 Cent mashup full of ulaks and exploding ramps. We can dream, can't we?

You know its not really begging when your boss asks for something :). When your boss asks for something you deliver!!

And then, after they get that sweet vin/50 mashup game, Uwe Boll can make a movie based on it. It will gross somewhere in the $37,000 area with a $100mil production cost... :)

We should thank Vin when we've actually had a chance to play the multiplayer. It could turn out to be like Doom 3, or something.
And by Doom 3, I'm not making a compariosn between that and Riddick: I just picked out a random game with a subpar multiplayer option. Though, co-op through Xbox Live was one of the best experiences I've ever had in gaming, right up there with Halo 1 co-op, Streets of Rage, and many more other stuff.

Which amazing co-op title are you talking about? I am always looking for good co-op.

Teaches me for not proofreading. I was talking about Doom 3; hearing your buddy scream out obscenity after obscenity because some demon jumped out the closet is so, so funny. The first time anyway. I had fun with it, though I'm not sure whether the game is backwards compatible with the 360.
Oh, you should try Alien Homind, that's really cool - well it was on the Xbox. The 360 has Monster Madness: Battle for Suburbia and Earth Defense Force. Both those games are really fun in a trashy way - thowaway story, relatively low production values - and they should be really cheap now.

You're basing that off of the video at G4's website or on the screenshot above? Why don't we go all the way crazy here and wait until we *play* the game before making harsh judgments about it, eh?

It seems like Vin is a legitimate video game fan as well, which is why he puts such effort into his ventures. I think this is pretty cool, instead of just trying to cash in on his tough guy image. Seems like he could help with the growing legitimacy of video games as mainstream entertainment.

He's definitely a huge geek. He used to play D&D, and loves comics, too. He's even said he's not a tough guy, he just plays one.

I played and loved the original on the xbox, I can't wait to replay Butcher Bay in HD and play Dark Athena, I tried out the demo (I like how the gun perspective changes, very next gen) and I love that head shots matter now as much they did in the previous gen. ulaks are good but nowhere near as cool as a prison shank.
Butcher Bay was awesome and it's a shame that more people didn't play it, because it was an FPS, stealth, story-driven, and (in a sense) role playing game (you do get night vision, armor, and two extra health bars).

Yay, a load of Mutliplayer achievements for a game nobody will play online. Just what we need.
I don't mind the MP being added, but for the love of god don't give it MP achievements.

You don't *have* to get the achievements just 'cus they're there. What if there was a "Kill your mother with a broken lawn chair" achievement? Would you do that one too?
Would you do it for a Klondike bar?

Dude, achievements and trophies are there for people who want to get them... If you don't want to get them, don't...
Kinda why I'm not going to get KZ2's trophies 100% though, seeing as how you have to reach like the top 2% honor ranking to get one of them.

Well, it is worth 10,000 points, so I suppose it is tempting.

i dont know if i even care about the multiplayer being added. judging from that demo on Live, the game doesnt seem all that great. call of duty 4, halo 3, killzone 2, and gears of war have set the bar pretty high for shooters. the quality of your game needs to at least be on par to compete. i dont know if i missed some innovation in that demo but i think its gonna take more than a late MP addition to a REMAKE of a 5 year old xbox game to compete these days.

Rent it. The game plays much differently than any of the shooters you've listed. It provides more than one way of doing things, whether it be stealth, shooting out the lights and taking guys out with your shine vision, or finding a big gun to clear a room. It incorporates some adventure elements too, though, which is a big part of what makes the game unique. You have to actually figure out where to go, talk to people, backtrack, etc. It's not just "walk to this point, shoot and die until you clear it, checkpoint, walk to the next point, etc." Not that those games are bad, I'm just saying Riddick is different. It's cool.

Vin is a class act and he knows his games.
I can't wait for Riddick. Wheelman seems like good and mindless fun, too.
