Great article Griffin. It almost like a joke with a punch line and all, and I genuinely laughed.
And I wish I had your name.

There is a difference between mature and immature content. I hope he means that the game will not be immature. The most mature (or least immature) M rated game I can think of is Eternal Darkness: Sanity's Requiem.

Eternal Darkness was an amazing M rated game. I wish they had a sequel of some sorts for the Wii or DS.

Eternal Darkness was a great game. It is better not to have a sequel than a poorly done sequel. If there is a sequel it will be either on the Wii or Xbox 360. I personally hope for a Wii sequel, but if it is on the Wii I wonder if it will have waggle or pointer controls and if it does how would they be used.

Really, between RE4, NMH, Overkill, and MadWorld, there's not much room left to go. You could go for sex, but that's not exactly something I want to think about considering this is supposed to be about space zombies. A mood breaker, if nothing else. The whole "We're going to be even MORE over the top, and MORE gory!" scene is wearing thin on Wii. Even where it can go further, you're talking about an AO, which Nintendo won't allow. As soon as GTA gets to Wii (J'wii-Tee-Ay?), the sex angle will probably have dried up too.

But really, they're going on-rails, going to go for extremely mature content; are they going to have retro graphics to complete the cliche of hardcore Wii games? It's nice the first few times, but you keep repeating something fresh and it gets old.

well, they could have a dense, compelling plot, and the complex history could be told on original ways...
Now, this is something that says much more "mature" to me than sex, drugs and Guitar Hero.

If EA can get past the friend codes they can get more adult themes onto the Wii.

What on earth would friend codes have to do with a rail shooter?

So violence = Mature now? Hopefully they mean Mature as in "we wrote a good story that will appeal to intelligent people" and not "when you use your vibro knife in the right spot look at all the intestines spill out!"

I didn't have a problem with House of the Dead's violence, but the juvenile story and non-stop swearing, whilst it may earn a certificate 18 doesn't make it "mature."

If you look at what "adult situations" means in film, it's not exclusively sex either; it would be nice if video games could get past mature=lots of blood, as it's not really helping push any boundaries except those of bad taste.

So overly violent lightgun shooters are the new "in" thing on the Wii now? Jesus christ, seems like the developers are totally confused about the Wii-market. They just jump on every bandwagon that seems like it could make some profit.

I think the "Mature" content may be referring to horror, not gore or sex.

After all, HotD has swearing and blood, but isn't very scary. Same deal for NMH, RE4 (it wasn't as scary as 1-3), MadWorld, and all of those other M-rated games.

I just want a game that takes thinking, and strategy, with a well thought out story, and gameplay. " mature" doesn't equal "hardcore" or "core" neither does the other way around.

Not many games can convey all that.

I agree entirely. A mature game i believe is a well thought out and well executed title dripping in a great storyline, gameplay and replayability. I find that Super Paper Mario, Prime 3, Zelda: TP and Disaster: DoC reflect that. A game doesn't need to be Gears of War or Mad World to be classed as 'Mature' IMO.

Oh, for pity's sake. "Mature" refers merely to the RATING. And btw, NONE of the games mentioned by Foetoid have a great story, mature or not.

It's a phrase, people. "Mature content". Not "Mature" content. Not "maturity". Sort of like the difference between the Chairman of a company, and Chair-Man, the superhero who is half-chair and half-man.

And yes'm, to a large extent, the Mature rating is used to mark content that is not suitable for children, not content that is thematically focused at adults. Hence Shenmue, or SOTC, or 's Teen rating, although it'd be pretty hard to argue it's a game most kids would enjoy.

Maturity like love and war, steeped in revenge and unfounded hatred.
And of course scary zombie things jumping out at you.

Aww... I already posted.
