I hate these map packs. I never pay for them, but always want them. Then when they are free no one cares anymore.

ICY DEAD PEOPLE. Thats the number one reason I would get these packs. Any excuse to play horde really.

Also any way to have a pun pop up on my screen while playing video games is always a huge draw for me.

DIRTY'S ICY DEAD HEART, I'd still care when they're free, pal. I'd still care. Never tried Horde yet, all I've done is about half the campaign when my buddy in TX has time to do co-op over live. What's your tag, Dirt McGurk? Mine is MarkezJM, probably spend some quality couch time with Gears 2 this evening. Think we'll probably cuddle and watch some Dharma & Greg or somethin. Gears 2 loves what a free spirit Dharma is.

Word, add me if interested. Only 'Stiqers I'm linked to on live are Dark Wayne and General Death. They're coming over later this weekend to watch Boy Meets World reruns, we're tight.

Anyone mind giving a link to the Xbox.com page? I see nothing of the sorts on the Gears of War 2 page.

That's why I linked to Xbox360Achievements.org. If you log into Xbox.com, you can look at your achievements for that game and see the new ones there. But, when trying to click a link to that URL, it asks you to sign in, then once you've done that, it dumps you to your profile page. Pretty lousy, if you ask me.

I really do hope this fixes the problems this game has had.

Such a shame to pay $60 for a product and have to wait this long for it to perform up to par.

Too bad i'm still waiting for them to fix the problems. Cliffy said the lag delay was being addressed for Gears 2, but it still had it. They said the update would fix it, but it's still there.

I really think the delay problem is unfixable and that's what ruins Gears IMO.

Nah I think Epic ,unlike Bungie, is trying to fix it I mean the included bots for anyone with a crappy connection but I most say that people on xlive love to use lag switches, any game you play in the x360 that uses servers (Battlefield) plays 100 times better than any game with the crappy matchmaking system and even with the random maps.

I hope this game someday is ported to PC maybe when 3 is released,in Pc is a lot of fun and host advantage , unlike in the x360 where the host can recieve 10 shotgun blasts to the face and move in bullet time, is not a big deal.

If the Snowblind Map Pack IS NOT free, then I think it's crappy to include new achievements that require you to buy it - like "Reach level 50 and play a match on each of the 4 Snowblind Map Pack maps".

Does we know if the Snowblind Map pack is going to be free and included with the update? It almost sounds like it will be free with the update.

I am still annoyed with "The Completionist" achievement in Fable 2 that requires that you buy XBLA Pub games. I know you can potentially join someone else's game...blahblahblah...and somehow get it, but I think that is Pe-tarded!

Map packs for free?,you are new in this aren't you? (Okay Bungie did it once with the heroic pack but that should’ve been free in the first place since the maps are horrible)

Well map packs become free after the game loses relevance or the sequel is released but don't hold your breath MS policy is “no money, no maps” oh and even if you don't want them your game gets an update (No, the update doesn't patch any glitches or improves anything) that add more achievements that need the new map packs so if you completed the game with all the achievements the bar is suddenly raised so if you had a 100% in the progress bar now you have 80% or 95%.

So TL;DR Version:

New Map packs aren't free and yes that sucks but at least you get another way to obtain the achievement.

Maps should be free imho. But money rules them all, except Valve! (love them). Of course they earn enough cash with their steam platform, but hey, they deserve it!

Thanks for your feedback, Dr Jeckyl and Mr ESC. I can understand how my comment might have come across as n00b as it did, but trust me when I say that I do not expect Map packs to be free. However, the way the news release read made it sounds like the Gears 2 update may have included the map pack - which surprised me.

But assuming we will have to pay for the map pack, I am just saying that there are base achievements for a game and then there are DLC achievements. To me, ranking up to level 50 in multiplayer should have NOTHING to do with playing matches on each of the snowblind map packs. Sure, have a separate achievement for playing on each of the new map packs...as they have done before...but don't combine the two.

It's confusing to write about, but I think we each get the other.

Are you smoking drugs? Of course the map pack isn't going to be free. It seems like Valve's the only company with the balls to tell Microsoft that they're going to dish out free content. So unless this Snowblind map pack is sponsored by Mr. Plow or something, expect to pay at least 800 MS points.

to Mr. ESC:
The update does indeed include patches to the game, if you go to the official site they explain them in detail, but I'm including a brief summary for those who are lazy:

-basic glitch fixes (including melee through wall and long jump glitch)
-improved chainsaw cancel detection
-improved headshot detection on certain character models
-improved lagswitch detection
-region preferences
-playlist optimization
-new experience based ranking, (trueskill still matches people but is not shown)
-players who drop are replaced with bots, and lose experience
-reduction to smoke stun duration
and more!

Thats the free end, and that makes me happy as can be, as for the DLC...

epic describes one as the map that defined gow2 for them (grindyard) (from interview on gamespot)

"...we always talked about the fact that Gridlock was the map we used as a basis for a lot of our development [for gow 1]. Grindyard was that map for us for Gears 2. When we first started bringing in the new weapons, like the mortar, it was the very first place we tried all these new weapons."

a great map from gow (fuel depot) and two others, one in tunnels and one in the open.... and I'll be happy to toss them some points, but then again I have been playing since forever... 25k kills on GOW 1, and grinding away towards srsly 2.0 the legitimate way on GOW 2 (execution, not flippin story mode brumak run lameness)... So I am a bit (re: a lot) of a fanboy

I don't know why people think it's their human right to be given things for free. Those map packs take a team of employees many weeks to create. If they didn't charge, the maps would never get made.

However, I completely agree that the "new achievements" practice is a load of dong. It's nothing more than an advertisement permanently stickered to your profile, minimizing your hard earned achievements in the game unless you pay them. I really can't wait to see what Sony and Nintendo offer next gen because I'm getting sick of MS probing me for insecurities in attempt to steal my money every time I log on.

I agree with everything you said... minus the "legitimate" grinding for Seriously 2.0. A kill is a kill in GoW2, it's legitimate either way.
