Apple's recent preview of the iPhone OS 3.0 didn't really contain any savory tidbits for mobile gaming enthusiasts, save for one intriguing new feature -- the new model will allow the iPod Music Library to be accessed by independently developed applications. The possibilities for uses of this new capability are endless, but one idea collectively stuck in the minds of fans of customizable rhythm games -- an iPhone version of Audiosurf could now ostensibly be developed.
APPera, an iPhone gaming news site, recently issued this sentiment to Audiosurf creator Dylan Fitterer, whose response was as simple as it was promising: "Woohoo! I'm on it," he enthusiastically replied. We certainly hope he was being serious. Our hearts are so easily broken.

I know EXACTLY what he was thinking of when he worded that:

Considering we had roughly the same rumor a while ago about it coming to the xbox 360 i don't put much stock in this one.Its a great game though and it would be good if everyone had the option of playing it,if it was to come out on a portable console that i own id buy it again certainly.

If this happens, I am so on it.
...That is, unless HMX finally comes to their senses and make Phase for the iPhone.

I'm pretty sure HMX is cooking something up for the iphone.

I would so run out and buy an iPod Touch if HMX ported Phase to it and Dylan ported Audiosurf to it.
...And if I had the money.

I'd like to see this on PSN or XBLA. Maybe even the PSP for some on-the-go fun.

I just got back into playing the PC version, really does have a magnetic pull this thing. It sits on your steam list looking all boring whilst you sit wearing your 'been there, done that' shirt. But then you play it and all is forgiven and forgotten. it's still addictive even though it takes about a year to start up.
fingers crossed for an iPhone version. I'd buy that in a second.

When stuff is made for the iPhone (like this, for example) would that make it automatically compatible with the iPod Touch, too? (Naturally I'm excluding any phone related software/devices)
I don't own either, but I'm just curious because I'd maybe buy an iPod Touch down the line maybe eventually.

Unless an app requires the phone portion of the phone, it'll default to being available for the iPod Touch.

They both run the same OS, so when you build your app, it is able to run on all iPhones/iPod touches. The only time an app would be iPhone-only is if it used the camera, or something only the phone has.

Huh? Peer to peer gaming? In App Purchases for microtransactions and expansion packs? Push notification?
You guys have your heads in the sand.

This would be more exiting if it involved the G1. The iPhone is over rated.

The iphoneipodtouch seems way underpowered when compared to the 5 year old PSP. It seems like Apple is doing a constant catch up and just can't catch up. Poor things. The PSP has a browser that includes flash, has video out, rss, internet radio, Skype, DLNA, RSS, interoperates with both Location Free Players and PS3s where you can stream live TV and movies. Also remote play via PS3 where you can stream and play games. Memory is both expandable and hot swappable. 16GB @ ~$75 Accessories like GPS, Camera (with video) 1seg TV Tuner, so on so forth. Plus it is only $129 whereas the iPod Touch is $229 And yes the music library has always been accessible.

Yeah but the PSP isn't a phone, and it doesn't have a touch screen, and it doesn't have accelerometers. Oh, and it still isn't a *phone*.

Skype makes the PSP more of a phone than the ipodtouch ever was.

Uhm, what about local multiplayer over bluetooth? Or the ability to get data from the microphone? Or micropayments? Or(maybe most importantly) the ability for iphone apps to interface with hardware. Except to see some sort of gaming controller peripheral come out in the near future.
