Rumor: Audiosurf soon surfing onto iPhone
Apple's recent preview of the iPhone OS 3.0 didn't really contain any savory tidbits for mobile gaming enthusiasts, save for one intriguing new feature -- the new model will allow the iPod Music Library to be accessed by independently developed applications. The possibilities for uses of this new capability are endless, but one idea collectively stuck in the minds of fans of customizable rhythm games -- an iPhone version of Audiosurf could now ostensibly be developed.
APPera, an iPhone gaming news site, recently issued this sentiment to Audiosurf creator Dylan Fitterer, whose response was as simple as it was promising: "Woohoo! I'm on it," he enthusiastically replied. We certainly hope he was being serious. Our hearts are so easily broken.

ice~ @ Mar 21st 2009 5:45PM
"sexy hunk of piece of technology"....wtf was i thinking when i worded that?
WiiFTW @ Mar 21st 2009 5:53PM
What WERE you thinking when you worded that?
VaultICEE @ Mar 21st 2009 6:24PM
Probably about a sexy hunk of piece of technology
Foetoid @ Mar 22nd 2009 1:40AM
I know EXACTLY what he was thinking of when he worded that:

Ihavepants @ Mar 22nd 2009 3:38AM
Foetoid, how the hell is that relevant?
Troll elsewhere.
WiiFTW @ Mar 21st 2009 5:48PM
This seems like absolute genius to me. Now if only I had a iPod Touch/iPhone...
kelder @ Mar 21st 2009 5:50PM
Considering we had roughly the same rumor a while ago about it coming to the xbox 360 i don't put much stock in this one.Its a great game though and it would be good if everyone had the option of playing it,if it was to come out on a portable console that i own id buy it again certainly.
ice~ @ Mar 21st 2009 6:21PM
It's a PC game right? How can I play it? I hear so many good things about this game :P
The Baron @ Mar 21st 2009 11:45PM
Buy it on Steam, basically.
But be careful, it's a bit demanding on specs (I think it may be a bit poorly optimised)
Bootes @ Mar 21st 2009 6:01PM
I was thinking of trying to get in contact with him and try to make it for jailbroken iPhones back in the 1.0 days. Then I realized that I probably don't have enough experience to do it. :(
SunKing @ Mar 21st 2009 6:15PM
Sounds like a good match up to me.
B3astofthe3ast @ Mar 21st 2009 6:19PM
Android port plz??
VaultICEE @ Mar 21st 2009 6:24PM
If this happens, I am so on it.
...That is, unless HMX finally comes to their senses and make Phase for the iPhone.
B3astofthe3ast @ Mar 21st 2009 6:42PM
I'm pretty sure HMX is cooking something up for the iphone.
MowDownJoe @ Mar 21st 2009 6:49PM
I would so run out and buy an iPod Touch if HMX ported Phase to it and Dylan ported Audiosurf to it.
...And if I had the money.
Otis Whitaker @ Mar 21st 2009 6:49PM
I'd rather have it for XBLA :(
Lee @ Mar 21st 2009 7:14PM
I wouldn't.
Otis @ Mar 21st 2009 7:17PM
Monster.
Anthony @ Mar 21st 2009 6:50PM
I always wanted this, hopefully I can has it. :P
CrashSpyro123 @ Mar 21st 2009 7:15PM
I'd like to see this on PSN or XBLA. Maybe even the PSP for some on-the-go fun.
Alex @ Mar 22nd 2009 3:14PM
I thought that the Wii would be the best console to support it... But good luck getting any music into it.
Lee @ Mar 21st 2009 7:16PM
I just got back into playing the PC version, really does have a magnetic pull this thing. It sits on your steam list looking all boring whilst you sit wearing your 'been there, done that' shirt. But then you play it and all is forgiven and forgotten. it's still addictive even though it takes about a year to start up.
fingers crossed for an iPhone version. I'd buy that in a second.
Dafrety @ Mar 21st 2009 7:18PM
Damn, now I might have to purchase an Apple product again.
Fluorescent Octopus @ Mar 21st 2009 7:29PM
I was kinda surprised this hadn't already turned up on the iPhone (I guess they were waiting on this feature).

Tiki Towers is sort of similar to World of Goo ;)

When stuff is made for the iPhone (like this, for example) would that make it automatically compatible with the iPod Touch, too? (Naturally I'm excluding any phone related software/devices)
I don't own either, but I'm just curious because I'd maybe buy an iPod Touch down the line maybe eventually.
Donald @ Mar 21st 2009 8:35PM
Unless an app requires the phone portion of the phone, it'll default to being available for the iPod Touch.
Matt McN @ Mar 22nd 2009 5:44AM
They both run the same OS, so when you build your app, it is able to run on all iPhones/iPod touches. The only time an app would be iPhone-only is if it used the camera, or something only the phone has.
time @ Mar 21st 2009 8:37PM
yessss i will so buy this
DBuck_Eye @ Mar 21st 2009 9:36PM
Maybe now Tap Tap Revenge won't suck so much.
PS "Tap Tap Revenge" is such a stupid name, by the way. What is it getting revenge on? It makes no sense.

"Apple's recent preview of the iPhone OS 3.0 didn't really contain any savory tidbits for mobile gaming enthusiasts, save for one intriguing new feature -- the new model will allow the iPod Music Library to be accessed by independently developed applications"
Huh? Peer to peer gaming? In App Purchases for microtransactions and expansion packs? Push notification?
You guys have your heads in the sand.
Kyle @ Mar 22nd 2009 11:22AM
This just in: Audiosurf developer in 'license to print money' shocker
Anthony @ Mar 22nd 2009 12:50PM
No, only that little dual screened device can print money, well, that newer one coming out in a few weeks will have no money printer, so I don't see anymore devices with such a capability.
ToRo @ Mar 22nd 2009 4:47PM
This would be more exiting if it involved the G1. The iPhone is over rated.
required @ Mar 22nd 2009 8:40PM
The iphoneipodtouch seems way underpowered when compared to the 5 year old PSP. It seems like Apple is doing a constant catch up and just can't catch up. Poor things. The PSP has a browser that includes flash, has video out, rss, internet radio, Skype, DLNA, RSS, interoperates with both Location Free Players and PS3s where you can stream live TV and movies. Also remote play via PS3 where you can stream and play games. Memory is both expandable and hot swappable. 16GB @ ~$75 Accessories like GPS, Camera (with video) 1seg TV Tuner, so on so forth. Plus it is only $129 whereas the iPod Touch is $229 And yes the music library has always been accessible.
Matt Rix @ Mar 23rd 2009 9:28AM
Yeah but the PSP isn't a phone, and it doesn't have a touch screen, and it doesn't have accelerometers. Oh, and it still isn't a *phone*.
required @ Mar 23rd 2009 12:03PM
Skype makes the PSP more of a phone than the ipodtouch ever was.
Matt Rix @ Mar 23rd 2009 9:32AM
"didn't really contain any savory tidbits for mobile gaming enthusiasts, save for one intriguing new feature"
Uhm, what about local multiplayer over bluetooth? Or the ability to get data from the microphone? Or micropayments? Or(maybe most importantly) the ability for iphone apps to interface with hardware. Except to see some sort of gaming controller peripheral come out in the near future.
