on one of the maps, sandbox, there are orange colored energy balls that kills anyone they come in contact with. It's only in forge mode which also adds a gravity hammer golf club and a ball to hit

The difference is that Halo 3 maps actually have more use. Between the amount of varients available in Halo and the amount of playability options in Forge, one can (kinda) justify the price of these maps.
Gears of War 2 maps though...I don't see much value in them at all.

800 points for three maps? To think that Braid was available for that price a few weeks ago.
Shame on you, Bungie.

while it doesn't count for much since it's still one map. Sandbox is actually sorta like 3 maps in one, at least for custom games after you forge it. If you remove the center structure there's an area underneath the size of Foundry, and there's an area far above the map you can reach through a teleporter somewhere on the map that takes you to a forgeable area almost 3x as big as the regular map

M$ dictates DLC release dates and price points for Halo 3 and other IPs they own.
Shame on M$, yes.
And shame on you for speaking so assuredly when you're clearly don't know what you're talking about.

Three maps for 800, no matter how overpriced, is a standard. Infinity Ward did it, Epic did it, everyone is doing it.
I think someone else is to blame. The devs are cold soulless greedy corporations and it's pretty obvious that they won't bother making extra 2 or 4 maps if the sheep demographic is willing to pay $10 for three maps only. So how about we shame the stupid customers who are willing to pay for this crap because it's "only ten bucks"?
Reminds me of a scene in Sam and Max where after you have a go at Bosco for selling you really overpriced crap he correctly points out that you are the fool who keeps buying it.

As long as people keep buying it at that price, they'll keep selling it.

I think MS felt a little bit of pressure on the last map pack. They dropped the price from 800 down to 600 points, which they didn't do with the previous map pack. It could be to bring sales up before mythic comes out, or it might be a bid to keep from making it free on April 9th.

So the other three come out with ODST right? Any news if they're gonna have a code in ODST for it or if it'll be XBLM? For that matter, if I were to just play ODST multi, since it's the same, will my stats from Halo 3 be carried over?

They already cut the price from 800 to 600 points. The question is, will they make it free when Legendary comes out?

Brian, would you mind providing a link to where Bungie said Legendary wouldn't be free? I stopped following the Halo community once I COD4 came out and I saw how infinitely better it was. But through all that time, the one thing I appreciated about Bungie was what I assumed their stance on DLC was: that they would not punish their loyal fans indefinitely and would eventually make their DLC free as they did with Halo 2.
If they have since changed that stance, that makes me truly very sad. They're now no better than Infinity Ward or Epic (especially Epic, with their interesting stance of "on the consoles, we'll pretend we nevarevar believed in free bonus packs like on the PC, nor admit how we championed them").
Sigh, a previous commenter was spot on: if people wouldn't buy this nonsense, maybe we could get back to the old days of expansions and bonus packs for free, simply because it generated goodwill and more interest in products. Back before "DLC" was even a term.

@abracadabra - I can't find a specific link but Bungie has mentioned multiple times in past weekly updates something along the lines of "At this time there are no plans to make Legendary free". That implies that at some point they *might* be free, but don't cross your fingers. Also, it's really Microsoft's call as they own the IP. I'd like to think that with ODST that Legendary will become free, but we'll see.

Bungie have said that the Legendary map pack will NEVER be free.
Just look at some of the weekly updates a while ago
But don't blame Bungie, it is Microsoft who make the pricing decisions, Bungie have no say in it.

Thanks for the clarification guys.
Shame about that.
Also, for the record, I just want to note that I wasn't trying to be a troll or inflammatory at all. As I said, I stopped following Bungie and Halo some time ago when I found better things to play, but they always occupied a warm spot in my heart for their stance on DLC. Sadly, it looks like they've changed that as well.
And while you (343, Xiphias) are probably right about the current situation re: who is in charge of content pricing, I was basing my statements on their policy with Halo 2 and the first DLC for Halo 3. I have no objections to having the early adopters fund the work, I just like that Bungie eventually saw to it that all content back then became free. (And if I recall correctly, wasn't one of the Halo 2 map packs free by default? That was so very long ago...)
Certainly now that Bungie is free from Microsoft, I suppose I can't hold them particularly accountable for this decision. Maybe in the future they'll go back to the goodwill method of content packs. I can only hope, I suppose. Although it is worth mentioning that (Braid, for example) developers _have_ been able to flex their muscle and influence MS's price points for content. So it might be slightly incorrect to say MS has sole control over pricing? Although in the case of Halo, since they own the IP, I suppose that's a true statement.
Anyway, sigh. Another example of nickle-and-diming instead of using on goodwill to drive up sales. I fear for the day when the DLC culture so thoroughly infects my PC as well. :(

Oop's. I read this in my RSS feed wrong as "Halo 3 Mythic map pack Releases April, 9,800points.
Which works out at just short of £80 or $120.
And is the map in the image a Forge type map or something?

For the people asking: ODST's multiplayer IS Halo 3's multiplayer. It will have all the maps on the disc, including the ones that shipped with Halo 3 as well as all the DLC.
