PETA joins protest against World at War's attack dogs

"Oh no! Virtual dogs are being killed?!??! WE MUST SAVE THEM!"

All the while countless virtual PEOPLE are being murdered every day! PETA! YOU MAKE ME SICK! You think the life of a virtual dog is greater than a virtual human now don't you! I hate people who get more upset about animals being killed than humans being killed. I mean, that's just crazy!

DISCLAIMER: I do not actually give a shit about the lives of any "virtual creatures."

There are obviously two sides to every story told so I'm just going to add my 2 cents.

Allow me to be a devil's advocate for PETA first in which I see some points from their standpoint. Playing a game which has the player killing animals apparently should not be for little kids who make think it's fun to poke a knife into a dog for no reason except to emulate what was seen in these games. Yes, I believe animal abuse is wrong, but at what point?


History as we know it, has been a bloody battle and no war comes without casualties. My war history is not accurate enough for me to really say anything. Can we compare these "attack" dogs to today's law enforcement dogs? You might find an innocent bystander staring into a store because he's window shopping, to have a cop launch his dog for entertainment value while the victim is being mauled to death.

PETA, my stance on this takes after the fact that Activision created a game to show what history was, what these soldiers had to go through. It is a game that has been rated M for Mature with GRAPHIC VIOLENCE.

Ethical treatment of animals should apply to real life situations, not warrant an unjustified excuse to go after a company just because they do it with pixels. People train their dogs for all certain types of situations, it's up to you how to train your animals and how they respect everything.

The majority of you (with few exceptions) have missed the real point here.
PETA is against the unethical treatment of THINGS THAT DON'T ACTUALLY EXIST!!!
I don't care if it's a vicious attack dog or the fluffy little bunny you get an achievement for killing in Fable 2. THEY ARE NOT REAL!
If we need to stop killing fake animals why aren't people petitioning the killing of fake humans? Then every fun game in all of existence would be gone.

There, now that I'm done ranting I'm going to go allow someone to kill me 7 times in COD just so can massacre as many FAKE dogs as I possibly can :D

The concept of Peta is good.
The nut jobs who support them are a different story.

This is a failed priority issue more then anything…

So when is Peta going to boycott
1. Airlines (how many birds get killed ever year?
2. Auto manufacturers, viva road kill.
3. Pesticides, yea those great home gardens sure kill a lot of bugs.
4. Breathing… After all human life and effects of society kill so many of these creatures.
5. Home construction.
6. Agriculture
So many more..

Point is Peta is a money maker, it’s followers typically (not all) are freakin whacked and either need to lead by example and kill themselves, or stop driving, gardening, eating any kind of food, buying any kind of product, live in nature as nature gives to be lived in, and… That’s my point. They are a joke, if they were this hardcore I sure don't seem them giving anything up... You really think the main people behind this group do not live in millions of dollars worth of home alone?

and hey, if you want to give me free games and paid time to play around with dogs, I'll accept. of course I'll go home and eat a steak afterwards, and then play some game where I kill lizards, giant cats, and wolves, but *shrugs*.

Well I eat steak and shoot giant lizards with no problem. But being forced to kill German Shepherds when I raised mine from birth is not an enjoyable experience and developers should show some discretion. There is a difference between wild animals and pets. I'm still going to play COD5 right now though. Not a game breaker just wish it would have been excluded.

I extremely hate ignorant people, seriously a video game . . seriously. People are getting shot in the game, PEOPLE, ok. Not to mention I started playing Ninja Gaiden II which also has, yep you guessed it dogs that attack you. Oh Resident Evil series, dogs. Needless to say many games have had dogs, even other animals that attack the player and you need to kill them - PETA you need to spend your money on something a little better than bothering video game companies if I ever meet one of your members and they say something about this I will punch them in the face.

On a side note I went to my grandmothers house before when she was alive and her neighbors had some nasty dogs, that happened to get out this day and as I was walking in the front gate they came around the corner and bit my leg. Guess what, I punched that fucker in the head and knocked it out - full grown rottweiler. Just like real life if in the game a dog attacks you, you intend to mess it up before it gets you - get a life.

I never played COD5 but I did play COD4 and from what I saw the dogs are coming after me to kill me.....sooo.....basically PETA wants me to pet rather then kill the damn thing thats trying to kill me???????????

It's funny how they (PETA) haven't commented on games like Elder Scrolls:Oblivion. There's rats, bears, deer, wolves, lions, all sorts of animals to kill. It seems to me that organizations like PETA are opportunistic in their attacks of popular media, and only do so when they see it as an opportunity to bring publicity to themselves. If a game, TV show or movie gains popularity and stands at the forefront of popular culture and they see the opportunity to slander, they jump on it like a parasite. It's even more ridiculous in contrast to the fact that in the game we are also killing Japanese and Germans, both of which are now allies to our country, and more importantly human beings. But you don't see them crying foul over the game content or over the reenactments of actual historical scenarios in films like Saving Private Ryan. Because that's all they are. Historical reenactments meant to either teach or entertain. The day we remove factual elements from our books, movies, games and any other form of popular media due to the unrefined and ill directed passions of special interest groups is the day we betray the memory and significance of the events and scenarios that have shaped who we have become and how we have gotten here. In summary, SHUT UP PETA!

I'm all for animal rights, but dogs were historically used during wartime. Thats not to say that games are historically accurate by any means, but give me a break.

I had a traumatic childhood, filled with Italian plumbers stomping (STOMPING!!) on the heads and shells of poor, innocent turtles? I lived in fear for years that fat, mustachioed men would break into my room to play hackeysack with my pet turtle Myrtle. I am scarred for LIFE as a result of this blatantly insensitive move on Nintendo's part. If only PETA had stepped in to do something about it. *sniffle*
