DSi surpasses 2 million sales mark in Japan
It's been roughly five months since the Nintendo DSi launch in Japan (144 days, actually) and the updated handheld has been selling like gangbusters. Famitsu (via VG247) is reporting the landmark number of 2 million units, a figure that amounts to roughly 14,000 units being sold per day in the country since its launch.
To put that in some perspective, the DSi has been outselling the now totally boring DS Lite at roughly 7:1 on a daily basis in the country since its launch last November. 100k every week in Japan -- on average, no less! Our hats are off to you Nintendo, patiently awaiting some soup. You see there's this recession thing you might've heard of. We're not doing so hot ...

Would one of the two million people who own a dsi please tell me once and for all... does the dsi support sdhc cards???
Ben Gilbert @ Mar 24th 2009 11:19AM
A quick search for "DSi SDHC support" on Google seems to point to yes. Between the leaked neoGAF spec sheet many moons ago and the now released DSi, you'd think there'd be something solid out on the internet. The closest I could find was this:

I've put out a question to CAG's CheapyD who owns a DSi and we'll see what he has to say.
Christina @ Mar 24th 2009 11:44AM
Thanks, Ben. I did a bunch of research as well and while all signs point to yes, I'm reluctant to purchase a large capacity sd card until I know for sure... Yes, I could wait until the dsi is in my hands, but I need to be prepared! (Also, I'd like a good ebay deal).
Can't wait to hear what CheapyD has to say.

Hi, Christina.
Yes, the DSi supports SDHC. My DSi manual says so.
Ben Gilbert @ Mar 24th 2009 1:15PM
Bang! Question answered. Will still see what Cheapy has to say but this sounds like as good of an answer as you're going to get from him.
Thanks for the help, ramuji!

Thanks, Ramuji!

To what capacity though for the SDHC? 8, 16, 32? This is relevant to my interests.

I feel as if they are part of some evil plot to destroy the world.
Markez @ Mar 24th 2009 11:19AM
The Japanese?

Nintendo

Yeesh, doesn't seem like that took too long. Time to release the DSj with dual redundant cameras.
Would be interesting to see a comparison to other consoles/handhelds rate of sale within that same initial time period.

Please, don't ever stop using that picture.
Thank you.
Markez @ Mar 24th 2009 11:47AM

AgentGoomba @ Mar 24th 2009 2:13PM
I literally laughed out loud. back to the DSi, I want this console even though I got the DS lite. I can explain why I want the console either... Frightening.
intro94 @ Mar 24th 2009 4:46PM
with double the memory, double proccesing power, larger screens and inbuilt memory?Id scrap the cameras , thats alot more than the psp 990000 redesigns do.im gettting one cuz my phat ds is kinda PHAT for my pocket.
Kattleox @ Mar 24th 2009 11:23AM
Soooo...now everyone in japan owns at least three DS's. I guess its so they can play with themselves and not have to worry about friend codes.
anexanhume @ Mar 24th 2009 11:23AM
So, in 5 months, one out of every 50 Japanese owns a DSi. Indoctrination is progressing well, I see.
cuso26 @ Mar 24th 2009 11:28AM
You guys need an updated image... the DS Phat is most certainly NOT printing money anymore :P

I, for one, welcome our Nintendo overlords and shall forever sing the praises of all things that His White Gloved Hand hath touched. Verily, I say unto thee in the words of Mario most high, "Woo! Hoo Hoo! Wha Ha!"

Genius comment. +1

Nintendo is becoming the new Apple. The same device released every 1-2 years with minor changes.
Gotta have em all!!!
Meh @ Mar 25th 2009 11:28AM
"Minor" changes? We're talking about DSi here.
Robert Payne @ Mar 24th 2009 12:44PM
Only hope our local Shopper's carry them. Will need to cash in our optimum points $55.00 savings to get it along with the boy's b'day money.
lol
FAnchax @ Mar 24th 2009 12:43PM

Cody @ Mar 24th 2009 2:15PM
DSi supports all DS games NOT needing the Game Boy cartridge slot to function (i.e. Guitar Hero)
Phenylketonurics @ Mar 24th 2009 1:58PM
Recession? When this redesign is offered at the low, low price of $169.xx? Ba-humbug I say!
Spybreak @ Mar 24th 2009 8:48PM
Gotta love that picture, lol priceless, haha.
