GDC09: Bungie to produce more Halo 3 content, probably for 'two more years'

Some may be wondering why Bungie felt a need to break away from Microsoft if they seem content working on the Halo series for all of eternity. According to Bungie's GDC panel, the team is currently working on a number of projects, something Bungie never had the capacity to do. Since then, the team has expanded considerably, allowing Bungie to pursue non-Halo projects.
Bungie's growth seems to parallel the path of another acclaimed FPS developer: Valve. Perhaps Halo can follow Half-Life's footsteps: expanding episodically, whilst introducing innovative concepts like Portal.

Hasn't Bungie already said the Mythic Map Pack (that comes with ODST) is their last Halo 3 project?

Yes they did. But technically speaking, ODST or Recon is "halo 3 content." So supporting ODST/Recon with maps for 2 more years, is producing more content.

Yeah, and I kind of doubt we'll see another Mario game. Grand Theft Auto? That series is done. Metal Gear? Nothing more than a distant memory now.

1- Remove the ranking system and Online achievements so people don't get so damn serious and stop cheating in Halo so everyone can actually play for fun(keep MLG section so you don't piss off the serious face players (people realize Halo is not a sport right?)).
2-Make Campaing levels playable online via xbox live a la Left 4 Dead or Gears of War.Add achievements for co-op play and maybe a horde mode.
3-Release Halo DLC Episodes for 1200p that are also playable online and more skulls.
5-????

Let me rephrase that:
Okay Halo 3 can be played with friends online but if your friends happen to be like mine that only play Gears of War or Left 4 dead then you are pretty much screwed (Or if they suck at Halo or have a crappy connection etc etc)
Why I can't host a match in which anyone can join? You know like Left 4 Dead. Gears of War also allows you to play the campaign online why can’t Halo do the same?
So F1 I don’t see you suggesting anything better so sorry if the last reply was a bit hasty (I didn’t proof read) .

Have you ever even looked at a copy of Halo 3? Co-op Campaign was one of the huge features that helped the game sell so well. How bout you actually play a game before you go dissing it?

With the stupid racist homophobes on Halo 3's multiplayer do you really want to bring that into campaign? Hell even I barely matchmake and when I do I usually add a friend or 2 or mute everyone and turn on a podcast (which isn't that fun as talking to people is one of the things I like to do).

I have the game jackass and no you have to invite your friends so no you can't just set a lobby and wait for people to join your game so you can start the game. Don't you think I'll know? That’s the reason why I don’t have Annual Master Achievement (I do have friends but man their connections suck)
Crap I've been playing the game for 2 years now and I'm the community. I have the 7 columns symbol in my well is not a tag actually, well the label thingy (Yeah I still trying to make the most of Halo 3).I also got the Katana and security (Thanks to the legendary pack yeah I screwed up my opportunities to get Overkill and 2 4 1,damn lag)
I have played Halo 1 (Won a local tournament BTW) Halo 2 (Best in the series IMO) and I bought Halo Wars.
I have read all the material reference and I still believe Halo 3 is a standard game with little substance.
So yeah I did my homework.
Also not every Halo 3 player is a jackass...there are like 10 guys that are cool people but I feel everyone playing is either a jackass because they got tea bag by some sexually oppressed prick or are frustrated because they can’t get the achievements or the rank system often remind them they suck (Skill LVL 13 Brigadiers that played Over 9000 matches, saddest thing ever).
Another thing is that I feel some guys are gay and repress that by calling everyone a fag, seriously just come out of the closet and leave everyone alone. Nobody cares if you are gay just don’t be an asshole.
For example once I was playing with some guys in Big team slayer and as always I’m the kind of guy that puts its weight on the team somehow they misunderstood that and 3 guys clearly stated they were gay. I just said “okay can I have the sniper rifle?”. That was the most awkward moment in a videogame ever.

Maybe. but at the same time a lot of the games featuring Mario are fun. yet we all agree Nintendo Milks him like the cash cow he is....Just like Sony is Milking Buzz! and SingStar. and most likely will try to do the same with their other popular franchises from last generation

True. But for me milking only happens when the series has gotten stale and hasn't gotten a much needed reboot (Sonic falls under this and Mario just left it due to Galaxy). Halo still has a lot of potential and has proven itself to be versatile and filled with great story potential(Halo Wars anyone?). Even the Halo maps have helped push in new life to Halo 3 by giving amazing forging opportunity (Currently working on the Galactica in Sandbox).
Plus the general consensus that milking happens when companys release shitty games with the brands name just to make money (Sonic and Mario at the Olympics being a prime example). So far every thing released under the Halo name has been of great quality hence no milking. The one thing that I find Mirrors this is the Half-Life series due to HL1's expansions and HL2's episodic gaming and none can say that HL is being milked.

I dunno if I would compare Halo to half-life tho, as HL is episodic in nature and halo so far hasn't been. Could it be in the future?? maybe. But I doubt it will be any time soon. Maybe when MS goes to a more download heavy model

Let's see Valve releases free content for TF2 and patches constantly to fix any issue.Also they improve the gameplay to keep things fresh.
Bungie charges up 800p for packs with 3 maps which follow the same damn paterns every friggin time (Big Team map,Slayer/Team Slayer map and a Forge map)
Tf2 gets discounts or is included in bundles.
Bungie made the Heroic map pack free after a while then again they charged for it at first oh and gave us Cold storage for free which rarelly appears in matchmaking.
Dude just no,Bungie is not even in the same league.

Bungie isn't even on the same trail as Valve. If you want to really compare them, Valve is a beautiful and reliable Japanese car, and Bungie is the beautiful American car that has problems often and the repairs (upgrades) are overpriced.

That can be applied to anyone F1 and yes I read the post and about the unbreakable Japanese cars I think you don't know about car engines at all. Unless it’s a electric car ,I'm clueless if those have the same problems.
Also car analogies are *ahem never appropriate.
What I'm saying that Valve goes the extra mile like 10x times while Bungie does nothing extraordinary I mean handing the occasional Recon and Halo 3 set is great but that’s it. IW and Treyarch also do the double exp weekends and other events as well.

Cold storage is played alot in rumble pit or Multiteam, They dont need to realease that many patches because it is polished so well, and they always realease new gametypes and maps into matchmaking. And I played TF@ and its Horrible. And give me site for TF2 that caters to fans as much as Bungie.net. All the maps released so far have been great (with exceptions to maybe the heroic maps in some cases) And ofcourse they are going to have maps that cater to certain gametypes because Halo 3 is about variety. Bungie and Halo 3 stomp all over Half life, Valve and TF2

Urza I think you are confusing the PS3 version TOB with L4D and totally missed the point of what he said. That or I missed the EA logo.
Valve tried (According to what I heard) to make free content for their games but MS didn’t allow it. According to fanboys (You can call BS on this) that’s the reason why the x360 version of TOB never got the TF2 content the PC got and Valve is trying to get all the Updates together so when the xbox 360 version gets the update (I don’t think is going to happen ) you get more than your moneys is worth.
Bungie just releases Map packs like Treyarch and IW and it gets the best developer evar1!! Spot because…? Yeah they do pay attention to their community then again they do nothing except if you do a super awesome Halo 3 montage or video (Or just show a clip of a traffic cone owning you) you get a special armor so you don’t feel you wasted your time and other Halo 3 players often say to you “who cares” when they see the recon armor.Yeah.

Yeah, Microsoft sets the prices, not the publishers, cause its Microsoft that gets the money through those points, not them. That is why something like the RE 5 DLC is only 120-160 points in japan, where they want more 360 consoles sold, and 400 here because they know its almost American to own a 360.
