We checked out Ubisoft's new RTS slash board-game-on-steroids, R.U.S.E., and have a high-quality HD trailer, along with some screenshots, to show for it. This thing must have been made by someone living in a giant mansion on a cliff in Monte Carlo. You've got two Eurodudes jockeying for the winning position and having a Zoolander-style face-off for best male model face -- it looks like they both brought the Blue Steel.
Despite the bizarreness of this trailer, which shows no actual gameplay from R.U.S.E., we're quite excited about it. We spoke to the developers and watched a full demo, so expect more details to come tomorrow.

I don't want to have to wear pants to play video game - much less a suit.

Exec 1: "How should we market this game?"
Exec 2: "How about we make a REALLY COOL trailer that shows off a technology we are not offering?"
1: "What about the technology we ARE offering?"
2: "I dunno, throw in some cgi of tanks or something? But no gameplay, absolutely no gameplay. Make it seem like the cool tech is the gameplay."
1: "Even though we're not really offering it."
2: "Right."
1: "Good meeting."
2: "GM"

I was suckered into being the Recording Secretary. I KNEW I shoulda raised my hand when they were asking who wanted to be President or VP.

Well, accurate or not that trailer was very well executed and managed to convey a lot in tone and cinematography without any spoken words.

Nice trailer, if a bit overly dramatic.
But practically, there's no way that would work. Unless you could somehow privately set up your forces and mission plans beforehand, there's no way you could manage any of that without the other player knowing.

Unless this is exclusively for the Microsoft Surface, this will in no way live up to my expectations.
I wish that this is how modern business negotiations would go down.

Man, I'll be pissed if the game doesn't deliver on all the homoerotic tension promised here.
Really, though, from what I've read this game is looking great. It seems a bit like a super in-depth version of Stratego crossed with trading card game elements, which sounds like pure game crack (like, Tetris-or-Lumines-strength game crack). Still not sure how the RTS elements will fit in....perhaps actual unit battles will play out in RTS form? The only problem is that I see screenshots of what looks like RTS-style unit production, so that's probably not it......

Speaking of which, why the hell hasn't there been a XBLA version of Stratego? That game is the shit!

This trailer sort of reminds me of the game 007 and Largo play in "Never Say Never Again" about world domination.

I think R.U.S.E. might take runners up, if not first place, at this year's Badass Backronym Awards. That is, if it stands for anything. I'm guessing:
- Rich Urban Suburban Europeans
- Really Ultra Stratego xtrEem!!
- R.E.A.L. T.I.M.E. S.T.R.A.T.E.G.Y W.I.T.H. B.O.A.R.D. G.A.M.E. E.L.E.M.E.N.T.S. (R.U.S.E. for short)
