Ubisoft games are no strangers to the silver screen. Far Cry and Prince of Persia IPs have already fallen into the hands of movie directors and it looks like Assassin's Creed and Splinter Cell are next in line. In fact, Splinter Cell has been on radar for a long time, ever since a teaser trailer popped up in 2005's Splinter Cell: Chaos Theory ... but whatever happened to that? With the Clancy rights now secured, it looks like Ubisoft is finally moving forward.
Gamespot reports that Ubisoft has plans of simultaneously developing games and films, with upcoming Assassin's Creed and Splinter Cell titles (and possibly more in the future) considered as possible celluloid projects. Ubisoft Montreal CEO Yannis Mallat said this concurrent synergy of creative processes will "make better games" and better emotional investment in games. It sounds like a good idea ... as long as Ubisoft doesn't hand any more projects over to Uwe Boll.

Nice :P So many games making their way to the silver screen :)!
Seems like the gamers are now on the focus of movie directors :)
I wouldent mind a SplinterCell Movie, But lets hope Assassin's Creed doesnt get a movie like the game (Keep repeating itself)!

Ah, an Assassin's Creed movie: an assassin trains...then infiltrates and blends into a city...then takes down his mark....then infiltrates and blends into a city....then takes down his mark....then infiltrates -- sounds like a winner!
Assassin's Creed at awesome potential, they better mix up the gameplay in AC2.

...however, due to complete un-awesomeness, the Eagle Eye will be replaced by the ability to bend throwing knives a lá Wanted.

An Assassin's Creed movie would either repeat itself a lot or be Hitman without guns.

Assassin's Creed could be a great movie as long as they only focused on one time period at a time. It could have a slight science fiction side to it but mostly be focused in the time period that the game is set in. I would definitely watch it if it was done well enough.

Joystiq, what's up with stealing the graphic from RawCritics.com? Way to be original.

Looking at the news on their website, it looks like they aggregate a lot of Joystiq material already.
Anyway, I don't see this exact image on their website. I see it used for another story about Star Wars, but considering that this is the first image when you Google "movie theater", I don't think there's any theft.

I think Assassin's Creed COULD be a good movie. I thought the game play was repetitive but that the game had a very cinematic quality (I remember approaching Jerusalem for the first time on horse and the camera pulling back to see the whole city). If they kept the present day scenes only at the beginning and end of the film it could work. Just hope it's not a SciFi (SyFy?) Original Production...

Hopefully due to the global economy whoever gives Boll the resources to create these "movies" which i would call scifi orginals on steroids. They would think twice about doing so, wishful thinking.

How about make a Splinter Cell as good as Chaos Theory but with a plot as awesome and political/cynical as the first?
And be quick about it. Exploding hot dog stands and crowd mechanics were cool in 2006 when you announced Splinter Cell: Public Nuisance Hobo, but not so much now.

Note to all movie studios: The Thief Trilogy would make a great set of movies. Stop ignoring it.
PS/ No fighting game* or FPS is ever going to make a good movie, stop trying please!
*exclusing mortal kombat of course, as that movie will never be topped.
