Katamari Damacy Tribute coming to PS3
Did Noby Noby Boy whet your appetite for more quirky Japanese magic? Keita Takahashi's original ball-rolling creation is returning in a brand new PS3 game, Katamari Damacy Tribute. According to Siliconera, the new title will be presented in full 1080p HD and will feature a "new visual presentation." The soundtrack features remixes from previous titles, which in conjunction with the title, suggests the Tribute may be a hodgepodge of previous games in the series.

On ps store right??
PSN ID: J-Berg @ Mar 25th 2009 11:16AM
If it was on the PS store that would be fantastic because one could assume that it would be far cheaper than the standard retail price of a game.
And this is really the perfect kind of game to have waiting for you on your hard drive, allowing you to be able to jump right into a game for 10 minutes or sink hours into it.
However it is released, be it digitally or through standard retail, I can't wait for it.
AustinAM @ Mar 25th 2009 12:30AM
Correct me if I'm wrong, but didn't they say they weren't going to be any more sequels a while ago? I was disappointed, but if I'm just completely wrong, then fine. Also, keep in mind I'm writing this late-ish and whatnot.
Markez @ Mar 25th 2009 12:35AM
na naaaaa na na na na naaaaahhhhhh nakatamari damaacyyyyy i think it's more of a greatest hits or compilation thing rather than a sequel na naaaa na na kaaaaatamari on the swiiiiiiiiing
AustinAM @ Mar 25th 2009 12:46AM
I think you need to reread the article, Markez. They specifically stated it was a "new title" a few times in the article. If you have nothing important to contribute, than just try harder next time.
Markez @ Mar 25th 2009 12:59AM
oh ok thanks guy, did you know that even if it's a greatest hits or compilation as I suggested, and both the Joystiq and source article suggested, that it would still constitute a 'new' title? Lighten up.
EGOvoruhk @ Mar 25th 2009 1:06AM
Nowhere on the source page does it say "new title". Sure, Joystiq's article might say it, but they're not the source
AustinAM @ Mar 25th 2009 1:15AM
My apologies, sirs. I am sorry for doubting you and I don't know what overcame me. I shall now step away quietly and remain a lurker for the rest of my days.
Roto13 @ Mar 25th 2009 2:19AM
"New title" and "new content" aren't the same thing, anyway.
Levi (God Hand Defense Force) @ Mar 25th 2009 12:07PM
Don't back down so easily Austin! Haven't you realized that the keys to success around here is to never admit that you're wrong despite everyone disagreeing with you? It has worked very well for many Joystiqers.
Sly (PSN slycooper_rocker) @ Mar 25th 2009 6:01PM
@ levi
*cough* sprinkles *cough*
Kevin @ Mar 25th 2009 12:33AM
Fuck yay!
I don't have any Katamari Damacy except for the 2 hours one afternoon at a friend's place. A compilation game of the best of the earlier games is awesome!
Now all I need is Team Ico and the God of War games to have PS3 remakes... Never going to happen, I know but one can dream.
BananaBoat @ Mar 25th 2009 1:43AM
I'd settle for an Ico reprint. My copy is worn down to nothing, and the game is impossible to get at used game stores.
A reprint of the PAL edition would be excellent. I should have grabbed it when I had the chance during the SOTC launch.
JoeTheBlow @ Mar 25th 2009 8:54AM
Fuck yes indeed. Instabuy from me here.
Same with any form of ICO remake/re-release. I can't even play it anymore as a lot of LCD tv's don't support its crazy resolution output when using component.
j.howlett @ Mar 25th 2009 12:34AM
it's not the greatest katamari in the world, it's just a tribute
Markez @ Mar 25th 2009 12:36AM
You sound like the King of all Cosmos, why do you feel the need to take this down a peg!?
dante @ Mar 25th 2009 12:56AM
i think it was just a reference to the D
Markez @ Mar 25th 2009 2:30AM
Yeah I picked up on that, you've gotta believe me.
Deathalo @ Mar 25th 2009 12:38AM
I hope they incorporate the sixaxis motion controls, this game would be perfect for them.
chrisnick @ Mar 25th 2009 12:54AM
wow.......ps3 is getting a crapload of software this year....hope its all good.
chililili @ Mar 25th 2009 12:44AM
We need bigger sequel, yes?
Josh @ Mar 25th 2009 12:59AM
Just remember that Takahashi has had nothing to do with the series after We Love Katamari.
BananaBoat @ Mar 25th 2009 1:49AM
That is what I was about to say. This is a cash-in no matter how you look at it.
That having been said, the creator is a nutjob, and I have no loyalty to him personally, so this isn't one of those "he's not making it? I'M NOT BUYING IT!" situations like with Itagaki and Team Ninja (for me at least).
Let him make his playgrounds in London or Paris or wherever the heck he is right now. I'll buy this game if it is good, regardless of his lack of involvement.
BPMOmega [gamertag] @ Mar 25th 2009 1:52AM
I thought he worked on Me & My Katamari, too, so there'd be a portable one?
el serpiente @ Mar 25th 2009 2:00AM
Who the hell cares? It's katamari in glorious HD. BUY!
BPMOmega [gamertag] @ Mar 25th 2009 3:40AM
Is that all you care about? If a game's in HD?
That's pretty sad...
Josh @ Mar 25th 2009 12:28PM
Katamari's Katamari, though. If you've played one you've pretty much played them all.
But hey, if you want to, then by all means get the new one.
Daisuke @ Mar 25th 2009 1:48AM
This is the best day evar!!!
HighFiveJesus @ Mar 25th 2009 1:48AM
the last one was pretty bad. :(
yeah and it was on 360, but thats why i'm worried.
Markez @ Mar 25th 2009 1:54AM
The main game of Beautiful Katamari did seem a little shallower or less magical than We Heart Katamiari (only other one I played) but you must admit, the '2D' board/credits on the 360 version was pretty rad.
BPMOmega [gamertag] @ Mar 25th 2009 1:55AM
So, now both PS3 and 360 have their own Katamaris... Now Wii is left without rolling.
And, uh, those screenshots look like the same old Katamari as ever.... Which isn't a bad thing, mind you. I love Katamari's style. But as it currently looks, I can't fathom how this'd be a "new" visual presentation....
JuanDHexen @ Mar 25th 2009 2:21AM
I would loved to try this game as I never did before, and liked noby noby boy a lot even thought to this day I have no I idea what I am doing and what is all the random stuff going on around me.
mezzanine @ Mar 25th 2009 2:32AM
Great, now all we need is Rez.
Gus @ Mar 25th 2009 10:29AM
REZ on the 360 is pretty good, really.
Cheap + HD + vibro controllers = WIN
Untamed @ Mar 25th 2009 2:37AM
Well Beautiful Katamari had great level detail, and an awesome amount of objects, but the controls made it unplayable. After the tight controls on the PS2 games, they have no excuse for the sloppy controls on the 360 game.
HD Katamari + tight controls = Win.
ImSteevin @ Mar 25th 2009 4:58AM
There's only one visual style that could make Katamari any weirder.... Ultra-realism
stargateheaven @ Mar 25th 2009 8:21AM
OMG yes. Finally what I wanted. But is it really nothing to do with the original guy who made KD? when is this coming? PSN game or retail? i am exciteddddddddd
Dehshizknight @ Mar 25th 2009 4:22PM
That's exactly what I'm wondering. If it's on PSN, I'll definitely be picking it up. If it's on Blu-ray, I'd consider getting it but don't feel comfortable with buying a game like this on disk; mainly because of switching disks. Not that I'm lazy or anything, it's just that I always play quirky games like this frequently and I don't wanna have to pay for another drive :p
Jon D @ Mar 25th 2009 9:47AM
IT'S ABOUT FREAKIN TIME
garnsr @ Mar 25th 2009 5:09PM
I didn't play Beautiful Katamari, but I heard you got the opportunity to pay for most of the game with DLC, instead of it being part of the retail price, and Namco doesn't seem to have changed that business strategy in the couple of years since it came out. Maybe this'll be like Rock Band, buy each individual level that you like.
Xeones25 @ Mar 25th 2009 12:39PM
Awesome, I'll definitely be purchasing this.
I bought Katamari Damacy during the Gamestop sale last summer and loved it.
If they do incorporate Sixaxis and really hope that it will not be required. The only game that I felt made good use of Sixaxis was Lair, I got a hold of it once the game was already patched to 2.50 or something so I'm sure improvements had been made.
Brett from Atlanta @ Mar 25th 2009 12:52PM
Except for beautiful katamari, that was an abomination that I personally dont recognize as a katamari game. It played way different than all the others.
Brett from Atlanta @ Mar 25th 2009 12:55PM
Sorry, somehow this comment ended up down here. Anyway I can't wait for this and hope it's good. Quick question to everyone though, after Noby Noby Boy, is anyone else hoping that this is downloadable as well? I can't imagine paying the full $60 price for a katamari game anymore and would love to have it sitting there on my hard drive waiting for me.
j.howlett @ Mar 25th 2009 4:41PM
the original was $20. i hope they go with similar pricing and maybe psn
ManekiNeko @ Mar 25th 2009 9:01PM
Yeah, no thanks. I've had my fill of Katamari Damacy. The series was good for one, maybe two games, and that was it. It's a lot like Crazy Taxi in that respect... a great idea without much staying power.
