Kawata: Resident Evil 6 'could take 8 years'

Masachika Kawata thinks a Resident Evil 5 sequel could be as far away as eight years, but hopes it's closer to four. Speaking with The Gadget Show, the RE5 producer said it could be a long time before Xbox 360 and PS3 owners see Resident Evil 6, if they ever see it at all. A lot can change for games over time, as our flow chart explains (it's 110% scientific, we swear).
Over time, games can advance with new ideas and bring our favorite characters into exciting new situations. However, sometimes (much to the chagrin of plenty of our own readers) things don't change enough, while others believe the old stuff works just fine. Preferences. They so crah-zay!

Fish cheat stuttgart far.

Awesome chart! But seriously, RE5 is cool and all. But the RE franchize could go for a solid reboot. Start fresh and go back to being genuinely scary.
WalkingCarpet @ Mar 25th 2009 11:42AM
Well, from the sounds of it (I haven't actually gotten my hands on RE5 yet) they pretty much completely wrapped up all of the story stuff involving Umbrella and Wesker and everything with this game.
So, they'll pretty much have to start over with a new story and everything. It's an excellent chance for them to reboot the franchise without actually rebooting the franchise.
Obie @ Mar 25th 2009 11:48AM
Yup, and I don't mind them taking their time to do it properly.
Mike @ Mar 25th 2009 11:40AM
Hahaha, I love monks.
I remember having that same thought when i saw the first Halo trailer.
The Dark Wayne @ Mar 25th 2009 12:14PM
I had to go watch the Halo 2 E3 trailer because of your post, and I can't believe how epic it was, even 5 years later
Mister Bogus (Mr. ESC) @ Mar 25th 2009 1:03PM
Halo 2 was pretty good,I have the trailer in the LE of the Halo 1 soundtrack.
Thinking about it Halo itself is kinda meh but hell those ads were awesome.
Too Halo 3 sucked.
I'm playing Wars so far is great, dumbed down compared to many RTS made by Ensemble but not bad.
tmacairjordan87 @ Mar 25th 2009 11:40AM
After playing 5, take as long as you need Capcom. This series needs to be revived badly and you take as long as you need to make sure 6 isn't as crappy as 5 is.
Ian @ Mar 25th 2009 11:59AM
Really? I'm not understanding the hate on RE5. I played/beat/meh RE1 on the PC, played/didn't like 2 or Nemesis, never played Code:Veronica, and played/beat/loved RE4 on GC. Now I LOVE RE5 and i'm about 75% of the way through it. Love it love it love it.
reebo @ Mar 25th 2009 1:05PM
I have played/loved all RE titles (except the fps's), and I love 4 and 5. I'm making my second playthrough on 5 now.
But indeed, I would love for the series to be scary again.
baby sea tuna @ Mar 25th 2009 1:49PM
I liked RE5 as well. Still feels like a step back from 4, but it's a fun enough action game. Tore me away from Killzone, Halo Wars, and GTA:TLAD for almost 2 weeks now, so it's got that going for it.
Rice @ Mar 25th 2009 11:47AM
Loved the chart.
pete @ Mar 25th 2009 11:57AM
8 years? Seriously? As we've seen with many other franchises, you can do a quality reboot/reimagining in half the time. Within 8 years we'll be well into the life cycle(s) of the NextBox, PS4, etc. You'd think Capcom would want to tap the RE moneypit at least once more in the 360/PS3 lifetime(s).
That said, I'd be happy with a standalone, RE4.5 for the Wii. Not a ridiculous on-rails shooter, but a new story done in the style of RE:4 Wii Edition, which was outstandingly good.
anexanhume @ Mar 25th 2009 12:04PM
Does it really take 8 years to absorb the intricacies of the dead space control scheme?
Cellien @ Mar 25th 2009 12:08PM
OMG, I hope in as soon as 2 years we get a new consoles, let alone 8! I'm ready for consoles with that nvidia 3d card built in. :D
Magic Whiskey @ Mar 25th 2009 12:14PM
Let's get a spooky, creepy, Resident Evil. That's all. I'm well past tired of the whole action aspect. The movies didn't sit right, and RE5 is fun, but it's NOT Resident Evil. It'd be like calling Mario Kart a racing sim.
Erluti @ Mar 25th 2009 12:32PM
Boo that chart!
BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!
Hating on RE5 controls is for babies.
Xav de Matos @ Mar 25th 2009 12:35PM
Being overly critical *was* the point of the chart. Check the links in the post. Personally, I love RE5.
Mister Bogus (Mr. ESC) @ Mar 25th 2009 1:07PM
I think it was too soft on Halo.
No body important @ Mar 25th 2009 1:12PM
RE2 remake please?
d889 @ Mar 25th 2009 1:28PM
yeah drop your purse and just play the game, if you grew up playing the original you shouldnt have any problem.
if its all new to you ... thats your problem, i hate when people say this should play like gears or something.
BIGGEN (LIVE-PSN: BIGGEN1103) @ Mar 25th 2009 1:30PM
The first half of RE5 was really good. I wish they would have transitioned into the whole soldiers side of things better like RE4. A mix of the town majinis and village majinis would have been nice to see. The second half could have used.....something. Still, it's awesome because of all the extras, how pretty it is, and weaponry. Still, I long for the return of the T-virus.
BIGGEN (LIVE-PSN: BIGGEN1103) @ Mar 25th 2009 1:37PM
oh, and a proper movie. oh, and i'm glad the (SPOILER REMOVED!) thing is over. punk ass mofo.
Xav de Matos @ Mar 25th 2009 1:37PM
I thought the setting change in the second half was kinda bland. But, I really enjoyed it overall.
BIGGEN (LIVE-PSN: BIGGEN1103) @ Mar 25th 2009 3:48PM
yeah, it was pretty bland. good word! spoiler removed, that's cute. lol
CJLopez @ Mar 25th 2009 1:46PM
Really, i just cant understan why the hate on no run and shoot
Ok, people to can run and shoot, but pros knows better that stand and shoot its the way to be done for more accuracy and prescicion, only noobs and hollywood thinks that you can run and shoot with perfect accuracy and prescicion
Besides, it gives more thrill to the games. We have such overpowered weapons (yeah, upgrading weapons on 4 and 5 takes much of the fun away, but is a necessary evil) that it would be pretty much unfair for the zombies to be able to also run and shoot.
If Capcom takes note of this, i hope they put an option to the ones who don't find stop to shoot really that troublesome. Remember Capcom, choices are good, you prove it here on giving us the choice of controls (really, that strafe control was good, but i couldn't bring myself to adapt to it, thanks for keeping the old RE4 controls alive)
If you really wanna shoot and run, go play Gears of War or something else
kentawilson @ Mar 25th 2009 1:53PM
All I see is I'll almost be 40 or dead by the time the next RE game comes out. Nice!!!
Pepe @ Mar 25th 2009 2:10PM
so sick of hearing about the controls....... RE 4 was spot on, so whats their to complain about?
Personal opinion aside Capcom can make the game however the hell they damn well please, i dont see any of the haters developing new control schemes......
Pretty Obvious @ Mar 25th 2009 2:29PM
Uh im guessing youve never played Dead Space? Actually I kinda wish I never played Dead Space either cause it completely ruined Resident Evil 5 for me. I woulda been fine with those controls had I not been spoiled by sheer greatness.
kbomb1upc @ Mar 25th 2009 2:24PM
After playing Dead Space, RE5 just doesn't feel that good to me. The whole not being able to aim and walk at the same time has turned me off. For me, there is a new king of Survivor horror games... Just to me....
BIGGEN (LIVE-PSN: BIGGEN1103) @ Mar 25th 2009 3:50PM
dead space was a very good game, strange zero gravity controls and animations, but the rest was great
kbomb1upc @ Mar 25th 2009 4:03PM
I thought Dead Space was an amazing game. I've never played a game that made me jump as many times as I did with Dead Space. The controls were great for the fast pace action. And I was never tasked with cutting open barrels or watermelons for health or ammo. The game made me re-think the whole survivor horror, but RE5 bought me back down to Earth. The controls feel so barbaric compared to Dead Space. I just couldn't get into it. Not trying to hate but I can't wait for Dead Space 2.
Slayer @ Mar 25th 2009 5:10PM
That's a long time.
Darth Pedo @ Mar 25th 2009 5:19PM
Glad to see I'm not the only one who will be scared for life by those damn dogs.
Matthew @ Mar 30th 2009 7:39AM
I can forget about the tank controls, the plot, the writing... all of it is part of the RE charm. What I really want them to use that 8 year gap for is to learn to pace it less like an action film. It's not survivial horror if you don't get scared!
robbie @ Jun 12th 2009 4:18AM
Resident Evil simply must imply Leon in every game. And if they remade re4 into co op.... well... im pretty sure they'd be gagillionaires. re5 is solid, but it's not re4.
Las Plagas 4 Life.

the one thing i wish this time if they are gonna make it that long than at least if your gonna get to play as albert wesker than i wish you could play as him and dodge bullets now most of you are saying no but im saying yes do this
