Update: Looks like we may be wrong about this one as James Stevenson appeared on the PlayStation.Blog saying multiple PSN log-ins are included in the current firmware. Looks like we may have misinterpreted his comment on our site. Our original post remains below.
Looks like a PS3 firmware update may be happening today or tomorrow, folks. We reported details on the upcoming Resistance 2 patch which includes a number of features, one being multiple PSN log-ins. Many of our readers chimed in, saying this is a feature not possible with the current PS3 firmware.
We got potential confirmation of a pending PS3 firmware update through our comments section. Insomniac Games' James Stevenson responded to our post clarifying the situation. "Resistance 2 is the first game to fully log-in two PSN accounts. LBP only logs you in locally, and does not register both accounts as online through PSN. This is a big difference, and what is required for split-screen online co-op with other folks."
Here's the smoking gun: "And it was dependent on a Sony update, hence why it wasn't in when the game shipped." If the R2 patch is available on March 26th, then a new PS3 firmware update may be necessary today or tomorrow. It will have to allow for multiple PSN sign-ins, but will it feature any other improvements? Stay tuned.

My brother wouldn't play coop with me until his stats could also be saved. Thank you Sony! Thank you Insomniac!
I haven't played R2 much since I also had FarCry 2 and LBP during the holidays. And now I also have KZ2. Choices to make, play-time to schedule...

Insomniac made a post on the PS Blog about that feature being one of the stealth updates in 2.60 a few days after it came out, so they could finally then start working on the patch to support it.

Not only are you mistaken but it seems you can't read too well either.

The entire second paragraph. Which is about one third of the story.

Why do so many people call the PSN service sh!tty? Maybe I missed something not coming onboard until Nov of last year, but umm. I have the same lag I had with xbl and it's possibly even slightly better with the cod games via PSN. Not to mention I have been beyond impressed with the ps3's full potential, not just as a game console.
I just don't understand that argument unless you really never tried it. Complain about features, sure, but network is Dependant on your connections mostly and your peers your playing with, just like live.
Now the lack of chatting during game privately with friends in and out of game, a better invite system, some kind of real reporting system, and other little features would be awesome.
My hopes this update includes for flash support for video streaming from like abc.com etc. That would be sweet. (Or support firefox, dreaming!)

Is there any possibility of Killzone getting a split-screen update? I like playing against bots and handing out punishment online, but having a chance to wipe out my brain-dead roommate would be great!

Wouldn't mine being able to have the PS3 read subtitle files when streaming a movie. How about it Sony, SRT and SUB file support.
I don't want to try to use a program to get the subtitles joined with video, hell I couldn't get
that to work any. I tried over 20 times already.
Also, mkv video file support.
