When I quit out of a game, is it removed from its temporary home on the internal storage?

If I launch a game from the SD card twice in a row, does it need to be loaded twice?

You know, it's amazing how Nintendo finally delivers on a storage soluation, and there are people who STILL manage to bitch about it.

"Well, they should've done it from the start!"
"Well, they should've added USB storage support!"

Well, they didn't. But, they finally added SOMETHING. They could've, oh, completely IGNORED the issue and said it was not a big deal (which is kinda typical Japanese company attitude). And, hey! They even added SDHC support! An 8GB card should be plenty of space, and they're VERY cheap.

But, then again, most likely the people bitching here don't even like Nintendo or the Wii... so why should they even care?

No, they do have a right. As paying customers, they have a right to complain when the product doesn't meet their expectations. If Nintendo handed out Wiis for free to everyone who owned one, then people would have no right to complain, but they didn't. They sold it, and so the people who paid for it have a right to voice their complaints. If you don't like it, then you should be the one to go away.

Very slick. Certainly took them long enough to come up with this, but for me it came "right on time" as it were, since World of Goo was just beginning to push my memory up to its limits. I only have a 512 MB Memory card right now, and that should be enough for some time to come, though i don't consume all that much

Finally! My only gripe is that they could have made the storage/loading more "seamless"
but I'll take this over no storage expansion. Thank you, Nintendo.

Not great, but it is a step forward. Makes the 256 MB in my 360 Arcade look even tinier. I must say I prefer Nintendo's solution of allowing us to use third party memory over Microsoft's highly proprietary (and expensive) method. I'm hopeful that some day console makers will just put a SDHC slot in the back of all their consoles and seamlessly support storage of all content there. Then, we can just buy or not buy as much storage as we need.

Thank goodness....Though I'm a little ticked they held back until GDC to release when they clearly could've released it earlier.

But I wasn't expecting SDHC suppot...32gb is a huge amount of space and really offers up the possibilities of much larger DLC for some games. It's no hard drive, but it's still really nice.

Two questions:

1. Can you exit back to the SD card menu after playing a game?

2. How long until they add Gamecube games to the Virtual Console?

Why would they add gamecube games to the VC when you can just go down to gamestop and buy the the actual game for less than they charge for an N64 game?

See this is good. Flash=faster access and seek speeds so these games are going to be much faster at loading than the PS3/360 versions. But that also means smaller capacity. But the whole solid state v. hard drive thing has been beaten.

now I dont care about the homebrew channel. this update negates anything that brings, since I'm not into piracy. But ScummVM was fun for a bit. I guess.

Thank you, Nintendo. This really is great news.

Now...next thing you need to tackle is the ridiculous amount of rotten developers and garbage games being developed for this system. Seriously, other than MadWorld, what have we had to look forward to on the Wii lately? Even you seem to have gotten a little too comfortable—"New Play Control" Pikmin and Mario Tennis? Seriously?! Retreads?! C'mon Nintendo, give us some real games again. Our family looked forward to Animal Crossing: City Folk, but it's a joke. A complete letdown. Nothing new. I realize you've got a lot of new fans out there who may not have seen some of these games before, but a lot of us already have. If they missed out on those games, too bad, they missed out. Get a GameCube and buy the old games. Don't make your loyal fans sit through them again. Time to move on—onward and upward—what was that in the keynote about an Upward Spiral? Get on it and make me feel good about this system again.

I got so irritated after AC:CF that I went out and got a PS3 and Little Big Planet—A game that's gorgeous and fun to play again and again—a real game. As a result, I've become a big fan of the PS3. So much so, that our Wii has become a dust collector. What for us started as a very inspiring piece of hardware has, of late, become completely uninspiring.

This firmware update tackles one of the biggest problems of the Wii, now please turn your focus toward getting some seriously good games on our consoles again.

Thank you.

Anyone else having problems after updating? Every channel I go to seems to just sit there. Forever. Literally. No channel will load post-update. Just the black screen staring back at me until I unplug the Wii and try again [foolishly]. Disc games seem fine.

I had the same problem... Today I moved 4 games to the SD card- Orbient, Cubello, the Incredible Maze and Sudoku- and now the problem seems to be fixed.

Absolutely awesome! It seems that they kept our expectations low beforehand, by telling us that we wouldn't be able to launch games from SD and not mentioning SDHC support, so we all sort of thought that this would just allow us to download directly to SD, which didn't sound like a solution at all.

I am just shocked at the loading speed (takes less time than most disc based games take to load) and the SDHC support. This really is almost a perfect solution, and a way, way better one than I was expecting. A+ Nintendo!

Also, as someone who's run out of space and been doing the swap since before World of Goo even came out, I promise to never complain about the Wii's storage ever again (Christ knows I've already done enough). Wooohooo!

This came to me just in time. I recently downloaded "Space Invaders: Get Even" and the expanson packs for it. That ate up pretty much all my memory in the Wii on top of all the other stuff I had. I was copying to SD and deleting off of my menu almost all of my VC games to allow it to fit. Now it will be much easier to work with now. While it is a shame to lose access to Homebrew for now--I had deleted the Homebrew Channel--the feature it added were well worth it.

For those complaining about the price of the 32GB cards, don't worrry, the price will eventually drop and so far I have not needed anything larger than my 2GB card. If you want a 32GB card NOW, then you'll have to pay more for it right now. If you do't need that much space, than go with something smaller and cheaper for now. More than one card is not going to kill you and the old cards will work well in other devices.
