GDC09: Leaked God of War III gameplay footage

Chances are that this leaked video (via DarkZero) of God of War III, captured at GDC, won't be around for long, so if you fancy seeing Kratos riding a cyclops into battle against a swarm of skeletons -- again -- we'd suggest checking it out as soon as possible. Also, because it's God of War III footage. We've embedded it after the break.

There are no hands-on opportunities with the game at GDC this year, but we'd be surprised if Kratos doesn't put in a fairly large showing at E3. Until then, we'll have to settle for dodgy Youtube videos.

Cool...if not a little repetitive.

The game is more than a year away you know. If you have played either God of War 1 or 2 you would know God of War 3 isn't going to be repetitive.

It's a year away at most, if the fiscal year 2009 release window is to believed, which ends in March 2010.

Don't get me wrong. I played through GOW and loved it. I just meant the scene for their demo wasn't very varied.

That's right...I said very varied. I'm crazy like that.

What you didn't see in the demo, but that was explained later, was that the Titan who's back you are on is AI used in a way that he could scale the cliff a different way each time... leading to shaking you off at different points of gameplay etc.

Animations on loop! Nice!

Make sure you watch in HD!

I like watching game videos on SD because it make me focus more on the gameplay instead of shiny graphics :P

Not only the ogre loop...look at the guys with shield.... is this golden axe? lol i kid

Or you could watch it twice, once to look at the pretty graphics and once to look at the gameplay.

Only thing that video really had going for it was the ogre, but still can't wait for the game.

I have to say. Kratos getting on top of that giant and stabbing it, making it stumble around killing enemies is pretty damn badass.

Since when does killing thousands of people get old...never.
I still can't get over the original God of War. I just find this kind of fun...kind of like a 3D contra (Except possible to beat ;P )

Dude it can get old. Look at Dynasty Warriors.

I've played every Dynasty Warriors and Samurai Warriors. For the most part, nothing changes. Add a few characters or remove a few characters, but I still enjoy mindless hack and slash, and apparently so do a lot of people if they continue to milk it.

The beginning was really awesome. But then attempting to kill it so long made me pay attention to everything else...After that, I go back and see him doing the same thing with the ogre.

I would hope they cut that 20 seconds down a little. We didn't even see it die!

Actually I would think that while you're riding it you would be able to control it whenever you want. You can finish him close after the button sequences. Cause if you remember, in order to control the Cyclops you have to jab away at it just like the soldier in the GoWIII trailer did & like in some GoWII parts.

I think it dies right at the end. At least, we see it begin to topple over, but then the video ends.

I think it is possible to kill it quicker, he just isn't doing so because he is controlling it so he can kill other monsters with it.

I guess David Jaffe was right. This game looks amazing. I can't imagine the fucking scale & depth this game will have with all or that polish. The PS3's biggest fucking game. I wonder if an encounter with another Colossus would arise cause having that epic with next gen scale & enormity would be amazing. Now....we already know it will be haha. I'm hyping it AAAAE. For my standards that is. It's incomprehensably impossible for Barlog's team to screw it up. Yeah AAAAE for me

You're basing it off of this video? The game looks good, not amazing, yet! We need to see some direct feed HD gameplay of larger levels. From this vid I'd say its on par with Ninja Gaiden 2. I can't wait to see the bigger levels and bigger battles where Jaffe sais it looks better than Gears 2. :)

xFenixKnightx, if GoW3 is half as good as GoW1, 2 and COO it is already twice as good as ninja gaiden.

@FenixKnight, you need say no more. This is God of War we're talking about here. & obviously i'm not basing soley on this demo. There was an in-game 3 min GoWIII trailer released a couple months back amrighanat!!!???????

I would put GoW 1 on par with NGB & NGS but GoWII destroyed even NG in terms of the best. It's truly an epic of un-parallel complexity. See.... GoW is a 10. NG is a 9.5 franchise.... I hope when we get our hands on GoWIII you'll realise that. :)

i guess the changed the way QTE pop up on the screen, it gives newbies a better chance of not screwing up but some people who played GOW before could miss it the first time as v are used to seeing it pop up in the middle of the screen. I know that i will get used to it but it will take a while. But still it has the GOW spirit within it!

this game is one of the reasons I own a PlayStation 3.

Good to see it in action... cant wait for some real footage... and the game of course... plus that topless cheerleader parade with the 50 ft chocolate teddy bear and the Blue Angels doing aerial acrobatics choreographed to the music of Queen... freakin sweet.

Really cool. Ogre could do with a few more animations though, so it doesn't look quite so repetitive and robotic.

Absolutely love the GOW franchise, but not terribly impressed by the footage. Actually, i find the coolest thing in the video was how the skeleton warriors came together at the beginning to create that shell, or whatever you wanna call it. And actually, yes, watching it in HD does make a difference. But not impressed by the cyclops controlling mechanism. Its way to repetitive, and it doesnt make sense that the cyclops would not at least try to swat kratos off of him. Plus, he gets stabbed way to many times in the same spot. Gotta vary it up a bit. Reminds me of the Pegasus sequence in GOW 2 where kratos would use the exact same move to dispatch of the soldiers on the griffins. Anyway, i dont mean to be negative, and i guess i had my hopes raised to unreasonable levels when i saw the initial trailer.

Hrm, doesn't seem any different from the last God of War games, but that may or may not be a bad thing (I've only played the PSP version to be honest). I was hoping for a little more in terms of the gameplay but I guess the genre has it's limits. I'll probably buy it just because I passed up the last games.

Looks ok, on a PS3 standard

But i don't think i'd be able to play it, its more of the same, and history is not that much appealing to me.

I think i'll hold on this one and only read the review and summary of the game, will save me countless hours.

Really, this game is taking the same direction, for me, that GTA4, its more of the same but with more graphics effects, can't find nothing new (so far)

Its just my IMO, so colour me unimpressed. I'd like to see more of that Online Action game showed on E3
