GDC09: 'See the Future' of Fable II DLC, next Lionhead game could be at E3

Fable isn't all that Molyneux's team is working on, though. Speaking to Kotaku, he talks about the future of Lionhead and its non-Fable developments. "In fact we've been working on, working incredibly hard, on something else [than Fable]," Molyneux divulged. He wouldn't say what it was nor would he say when exactly the studio would be ready to show it off, but he reckons E3 would be a good time for all that.

They did not F!!!! Up! That is the only PC game I still consistently play. Fake episodes of Frasier = Win!

They need to drop the map system. IDK how to describe it, but F2 doesn't feel like an open world. I know its not sandbox but its annoying walking to locations.
The Dark Wayne @ Mar 26th 2009 9:22PM
yeah I agree, it didn't even seem like the individual environments were that impressive that they needed loading. I suppose that they did and im just taking for granted the aesthetic style that sorta hid more of the detail
finnith @ Mar 26th 2009 9:25PM
If you go to the "Quest/Maps" category in the Pause Menu you can fast transit to any map. If you already knew that and are still complaining then you're crazy.
The Dark Wayne @ Mar 26th 2009 9:51PM
well that did make it easy, but i didnt really like how enclosed everything felt. I suppose that was probably technical limitations
Wes @ Mar 26th 2009 11:08PM
I think your right. I believe the sandboxing/instancing really was technical limiations. I really can-not-wait for the next-gen consoles to come out. Systems not limited by 512mb of ram. I mean, after overhead that's between 400ish to 460ish mb of ram left for the game depending on which console you use and what your doing.
I can't wait to see what they can do with 4-16GB of system memory. After all, 4GB today probably costs what 512MB did when the xbox 360 was brand-new. If the next generation of consoles are still 3-4 years away, 8gb might be affordable as the new consoles likely will go the pc route of multi-core 64-bit processors. I'm guessing 4 cores minimum but possibly 8-16.
That would be some truly impressive, high definition seemless worlds without loading. Like Crysis 2 but how Crysis 2 looks on a top top top of the line enthusiast machine.

Better be black and white 3 or im going to punch myself in the face again, except on purpose this time.
Gehodra @ Mar 26th 2009 11:00PM
I hope it's a sequel to Black and White, as opposed to a sequel to Black and White 2.
Codex @ Mar 26th 2009 11:05PM
Both were great games, this should be an entirely new black and white as apposed to a sequel in the traditional sense.
the step from one to two really was something epic, even though number 2 was short, the ai was stupid and never attacked, and lacked the overall depth of the first one, i still prefered the second one because you didn't have to babysit those retarded villagers who couldn't take a shit without asking for help, and your creature who was a full time job on top of that.
devilsei @ Mar 26th 2009 9:24PM
I bet I can sum up what happens in this "See the Future" expansion.
You go back in time to the Fable 1 era, and go meet with the Hero of that game before his climatic battle with the Jack of Blades. You take him into the fable 2 universe, give him a tour of the world after he helped it, then when you return him, you watch him kill himself because the sight of the world later on ( I.E. Fable 2 itself), is so horrid he couldn't stand being part of the cause of it.
Thus, it negates the existence of Fable 2 itself, as did Sonic in the 360 "Sonic the Hedgehog" game in it's so-called ending.
The Dark Wayne @ Mar 26th 2009 10:03PM
Why would we kill himself? Fable 2's world was awesome. Has there ever been a game set in the Enlightenment era?
devilsei @ Mar 26th 2009 10:13PM
Well, I prefer the swords and bow era of Fable 1 to the generic spell and rifle of 2.
Every spell is same as the last, death isn't an issue in the game, exp is trivial, and rifles are overpowered. Oh, and combat is as deep as lvl 3 time and headshotting your way through it.
Thats why he kills himself before fighting Jack of Blades. He was a true hero, sacrificing himself to save the game itself, not its world. The Jack of Blades will get bored, as does any villian who ends up succeeding in their plot, and everything will go back to normal.
The Dark Wayne @ Mar 26th 2009 11:05PM
I see, I was wondering if that was just trying to be creative or actually a stab at Fable 2's gameplay rather than setting. I agree in that I preferred the sword and armor setting but stuff like xp and death didn't really matter. It wasn't about getting mad points or kills and diablo like loot, it was about experiencing the world and being hero. However I do agree that using sword and spells was more heroic than guns, it still was a great game
Mister Bogus (Mr. ESC) @ Mar 26th 2009 11:15PM
Well he is right so far I haven't seen anything that can't be defeated by the Time Stop / Lightning / headshot combo but I thought it was a great game is just that the story is awfully short and it reaches its conclusion too early.
I would like to see the Fable 2 hero (In my case Dictator) going back in time and fight Jack of Blades or even be there when the Fable hero beat Jack of Blades.
The Dark Wayne @ Mar 26th 2009 10:01PM
YES! The one thing I wanted more of in Fable 2 was stuff about the first games character. In fact, I would have liked the whole game better if it was in the same time frame as the first. The whole armor and swords and old kingdom ( i know it wasnt the old kingdom) stuff felt a lot cooler.
Markez @ Mar 27th 2009 12:32PM
Should I go back and play the 1st one? I mean, obviously I have plenty of games to play, but you think it'd be worth the time investment?
Mister Bogus (Mr. ESC) @ Mar 26th 2009 11:08PM
New DLC would be great especially if it adds new enemies. I would like some hard bosses.
Talking about DLC anyone has beat the pit yet? I just finish it today but I don't want to give away spoilers.
Phil @ Mar 27th 2009 2:30AM
Hrm... "See The Future..."
Maybe we'll get a taste of where the plot for F3 will be? I mean, supposedly we saw a heavy shift in technological advancements in F2, right?
I like the thought some people have been kicking around, that the fable series could be a decent 4-6 title series, covering various areas of technology, the constant death and rebirth of the land and how beneath select few, heroes lie in wait to save the world.
It's a generic plot but oddly enough, generic gameplay aside, the story's been enjoyable. I'd like to see a nice advance to say, maybe a land where the industrial revolution is beginning...
Jeremy @ Mar 27th 2009 10:57PM
I think befor lionhead movies on to anyother projects, including DLC they should fix the mountain of glitches in fable 2. i.e. the love hurts quest.
karaantucker @ Apr 3rd 2009 12:55AM
Hmm... maybe it will shows how the Hero's Guild fell, and how the Shadow Court took over Oakvale... and maybe show how Theresa becomes who she is today... or show the life and what happens to the hero of Fable I after he defeats The Jack of Blades... I pretty sure alot of things went on those 500 years so they could make endless content if they wanted.
They could also show the birth of guns in the bridge between Fable I and II... but thats just my idea of what it could be about. who knows. ;)
