Original Call of Duty rated for PSN, Xbox Live
Even without all of the perks, ranks, prestige ranks and zombified Nazis, the original Call of Duty still holds up as one of the most compelling shooters we've ever played. Activision is apparently hoping that the gaming community still holds a special place in their collective hearts for the best-selling 2003 title -- according to a PEGI (a European game ratings board) rating, the original Call of Duty is on its way to PSN and Xbox Live. Oh, and also, it apparently contains blood and violence.
Somewhat confirming that the PEGI rating wasn't just a cruel joke being played by sinister European masterminds, the ESRB has updated its rating for the PC version of Call of Duty to include Xbox 360 and PS3 tags. We've contacted Activision for further details -- we'll let you know whether you'll be busting out those old beach-stormin' shoes sometime soon.

whoa, pretty sweet, they should also put it on the PSP
Shimrra @ Mar 26th 2009 2:20PM
No they should not. Dont believe go try any of the other Call of Dutys released on the PSP. PSP is just not meant to to be used as a FPS platform.
arrness @ Mar 26th 2009 3:00PM
I did, I actually thought it was pretty fun
I'd rather play it on a console though,
I turned off the auto aim and played it on easy, it still provides a good amount of fun.
I still play MoH heroes skirmish mode every once and a while
RedRaptor @ Mar 26th 2009 1:30PM
Oh god, yes please.
Hopefully it'll come with United Offensive.
Rhinosaur @ Mar 26th 2009 1:31PM
I got hooked on Call of Duty starting with CoD2...would like to check out the first game and see how it is.
CoD2 single player mode was awesome, multiplayer solid.
xFenixKnightx @ Mar 26th 2009 1:52PM
Pretty cool but yeah CoD is my least fav of the series. IMO even Big Red One was better than it. Medal of Honor Frontline was also better. They should get that one on XBLA/PSN with ch33voz/Trophies
My addiction to CoD started with CoD: Big Red One and CoD2.
Anticrawl @ Mar 26th 2009 2:13PM
Call of Duty 1 was good, COD2 was amazing and I was hooked on the series, COD3 was ok, and by the time 4 rolled out I had lost all interest in the series hah. The single player was superb in 4 though, just felt identical to 2 plus a few gimmicks.
The Baron @ Mar 26th 2009 2:19PM
I played through the first one again recently.
It's a very, very good game; even now. Back when it came out it was near-perfect.
xFenixKnightx @ Mar 26th 2009 2:53PM
I dunno, Anticrawl. IMO COD4 is NOTHING like COD2. Setting, grafx, controls, MP, speed, perks, story, basically....everything. lol! It would make sense if you were reffering to COD:WaW being the same as MW with just a few new gimmicks but I just dont see how you can say COD4 is anything like 2. Trust me, I played that crap outta COD2 and its MP. Totally diff exp for me when MW came out.
To each his own I guess.
jimmy @ Mar 26th 2009 1:33PM
so is this the original, or the xbox version (finest hour)? here's hoping for the original - i never played that one. finest hour was ok, but absolutely no need to play it now that we've got cod2, 3, mw, waw, and mw2 on the way.
t3kni9e @ Mar 26th 2009 1:33PM
It was fun, but I don't see the point... CoD:WaW is CoD1 with alot of added crap and graphics.
Erluti @ Mar 26th 2009 1:49PM
WaW doesn't have the same campaign, does it?
The CoD campaign is so very well done. Although, it might be one of those things where it's not as cool because it's been copied so many times since then...
Joeshie @ Mar 26th 2009 1:33PM
But the original Call of Duty uses health packs. How in the world will console players be able to cope without their precious regenerating health?
CannabisPrime @ Mar 26th 2009 1:39PM
The same way we cope with Left 4 Dead?
Dafrety @ Mar 26th 2009 1:57PM
'When I said "deadly neurotoxin," the "deadly" was in massive sarcasm quotes.'
maveric101 @ Mar 26th 2009 4:42PM
the way you said that suggests you are a pc gamer. tell me: why must pc gamers always be so derogatory toward console gamers?
BlaqueBeird @ Mar 26th 2009 5:39PM
@mav
I think you're looking for something that isn't there. Perhaps PC gamers aren't derogatory towards console gamers (I know I'm not), but you expect them to be, so you run around calling everyone who disagrees with you a derogatory PC gamer. If anything, it's that attitude that would potentially make a PC gamer even consider thinking he was better than you.
JXCgunrunna @ Mar 26th 2009 9:03PM
Oh wow you are right. its crazy that us console games even bought GRAW and GRAW2... most of us grew up on Goldeneye and Perfect Dark and can handle health packs as well as Health Regen
McWilly @ Mar 26th 2009 9:50PM
No BlaqueBeird maverics right. Why do you think PC fanboys are called elitists. It's just the way it is. Pure arrogance.
Ihavepants @ Mar 27th 2009 2:26AM
Fanboys of any platform suck, but generally the players of all our lovely game machines are good people.
Y'all stop generalising.
Obie @ Mar 26th 2009 1:36PM
I never played the original. Actually the first COD game I played was 4. This should be a fun blast from the past!
David Strahan @ Mar 26th 2009 1:44PM
COD 1 was good but if they could somehow get Medal of Honor 1 and 2. That would sweet
BlaqueBeird @ Mar 26th 2009 5:41PM
The best was MOHAA.
DWells55 @ Mar 26th 2009 6:15PM
I played so much MoH: AA and Spearhead. Such good games. Bolt-action rifles were so much fun in that game, there was a blot-action only server I used to play on that was great.
CoD1 still rocked though, I'll play the multiplayer again if it comes to XBLA.
JXCgunrunna @ Mar 26th 2009 9:13PM
Its funny you guys like MoH:AA so much since it was developed by IW. well technically it was 2015 but most of them left to form IW.
holmes @ Mar 26th 2009 1:49PM
interesting, but for some reason when i read this all i could think about was "why can't we just get the goldeneye 007 mess cleared up?"
yesterday at work, a bunch of us randomly started talking about goldeneye and how we skipped classes, missed midterms, and stayed up for all-nighters in order to play multiplayer games.
can't we start another stupid internet petition to get this released on xbox live?
ps360owner @ Mar 26th 2009 1:58PM
man i loved that game so much goldeneye top game.
Obie @ Mar 26th 2009 2:09PM
Ahhh memories!
maveric101 @ Mar 26th 2009 4:45PM
it was good then, but i played it recently and imo going back to it now, the controls are incredibly frustrating.
Einhanderkiller @ Mar 26th 2009 1:54PM
The first Call of Duty is by far the best. It's much better than COD4.
Vinner @ Mar 26th 2009 1:58PM
"It's much better than COD5."
fixed
Cole @ Mar 26th 2009 1:58PM
I will buy this, Fo Sho
Jim Perry @ Mar 26th 2009 2:16PM
Call of Duty 1, still sells for $20 on Steam for PC.
I'm betting they will charge 1600 ms points for this... if so, no sale for me. I'll skip it.
If it is 800 and includes single-player and multiplayer then I'm in.
MS has a habit lately of pricing stuff too high. There are several titles out right now, that if they were 400 instead of 800, or 800 instead of 1600, I'd be purchasing on XBLA.
Commando62 @ Mar 26th 2009 2:02PM
Oh man, I almost bought this for PC but hesitated cause I personally prefer FPSs on the console. Happy Day! Def a must buy!
Rhamsey @ Mar 26th 2009 2:03PM
sweet, hope it comes out soon.
Powaqqatsi @ Mar 26th 2009 2:17PM
Cool. Don't wanna pay 1200 ms points for it, though.
The Alex @ Mar 27th 2009 3:34PM
1200 points? Where did you read that? or are you just pulling numbers out your ass?
Diskoboy7 @ Mar 26th 2009 2:21PM
1000 bucks says MS puts it under the Xbox Originals section, and charges 1200 or 1600 points for a game I can buy a physical copy of, for $6.
DanB91 @ Mar 26th 2009 2:54PM
In order to be on Xbox Originals, the game would actually had to have been on the original Xbox
tmacairjordan87 @ Mar 26th 2009 2:27PM
The COD games are way too similar campaign wise, but I just can't see myself getting this specially with MW2 coming this year.
J @ Mar 26th 2009 2:41PM
This is sw33t! I never got to play the original, only 2, 4, and WaW. I know most will call this a cash grab for Activision, but gamers like me are glad to see it. I'm thinking 1200 points.
MemZ @ Mar 31st 2009 3:12AM
As long as I can get achievements for Veteran, I'm game. I'd be nice to have a record of being a CoD vet on 5 games.
Paul Kemp @ Mar 26th 2009 3:23PM
Just recently bought CoD 4 and tested CoD 2. Absolutely love both of 'em! CoD 1 on XBLA is a must buy for 1200 with achievements!
DBuck_Eye @ Mar 26th 2009 4:16PM
Frontline was better, in my opinion, but damned if the sight of a health bar in a shooter doesn't make me ecstatic.
ccc @ Mar 26th 2009 4:28PM
Well if its hitting psn I sure hope its hitting the live arcade and not in the form of an original.
If it is an original count me out.
acme @ Mar 26th 2009 4:35PM
i don't think you guys realize how dated cod really is, it looks rough. COD2 doesn't even have widescreen support. I hope they do the necessary upgrades to this one before releasing it.
Azrael4h @ Mar 26th 2009 6:35PM
You do realize that the original Call of Duty came out in 2003, right? It is 6 years old; absolutely ancient by your pathetic metrics. It is still vastly superior to CoD 2, 3, and the console CoD's (won't say 4 or 5 as I haven't played them). I still play it online even today, despite Vista not particularly letting it work (punkpuster doesn't work right, and the graphics are messed up) and the fact that my laptop is less than ideal for that.
Only one other shooter has managed that feat, and that's Doom. All the others have ended up ignored on a shelf or trashed. Even the ones I liked.
I'll definitely get it for PSN, and hope the expansion comes out soon if it's not included. Hopefully, it'll be able to connect to the PC servers too, though that may be asking for too much. To those who think the graphics are too 'dated' for it to be good; you're loss, loser. Dwarf Fortress is better than 90% of games out there, and it has no graphics.
Tombstone @ Mar 26th 2009 5:46PM
CoD2 has widescreen support on consoles, wouldn't make sense to not have it on PC. CoD1 had widescreen support too... Just not all the awesome resolutions, like 1680 x 1050
BlaqueBeird @ Mar 26th 2009 5:56PM
Games are like women, my friend. The best looks doesn't always mean the most fun.
acme @ Mar 26th 2009 7:19PM
wow you trolls need to step off. COD is my FAVORITE series of all time. im saying, for it to even DISPLAY properly on tv's today, it need to be updated. I.E. the widescreen support. it would suck to have to play it on a 46inch tv in 4:3.
Go take ur pitchforks and flaming torches and shove it..
