As promised, Ratchet and Clank are coming back to PS3 this fall. Continuing the story from where Quest for Booty left off, Ratchet is on a mission to save Clank from the evil Dr. Nefarious. Through the time-traveling adventure, both of our heroes will discover secrets about their origins, their destinies and (presumably) their old, polygon-deprived character models.
No specifics have been revealed on price nor distribution, but A Crack in Time may again release as a downloadable PlayStation Network title at a budget price. (Quest for Booty launched at $15.) We've contacted Insomniac Games for more information, so stay tuned.
Update: The PlayStation.Blog has updated with new details, confirming the A Crack in Time will be a "full Blu-ray release." GT TV will feature the debut trailer this weekend.

I thought the next retail release was supposed to arrive this fall, are they sure this is downloadable? Whats the source?

Hmm... Somehow I had it in my head that the next R&C game would be a full title. Don't get me wrong, I'm thrilled to get a new R&C game any way I can, but Quest for Booty just left me wanting for something more substantial.
Still, though, I enjoyed the last DLC game, so I'm sure I'll pick up this one!

well i'm happy to get anothe R&C since it's one of my favorite games series but im not super excited about another DLC game. sure i'll buy it anyway but Quest for Booty wasnlt nearly as fun as the full game because it was so short. hopefully it's a retail game.

@Sly
It is double entendre, though admittedly a weaker one than the PS2 games. Think of it as a followup to the double entendre of Quest for BOOTY. I think my favorite is still Going Commando, tho. UYA was a good title, but it requires one to use the old British form of ass.

EXACTLY!!! I didn't like Q4B. I only played it once and I wish I never bought it. And I'm ready for some multilayer on the big screen. R&C:SM multilayer is okay but I want more.

Is this more of Joystiq's brilliant "R2 patch needs 2.70" logic?

I'm curious why you think that it will be downloadable. I could be mistaken, but I thought that the Insomniac podcast indicated that Quest for Booty was a "tide over" until the next "Full release." Also, after Booty dropped, they did a lot of interviews/podcasts that seemed to suggest that they were skeptical that a downloadable title was a good fit. I'm expecting a retail release, which is unfortunate because I preferred the bite sized Q4B to Tools of Destruction, which wore on me after a while.

The original press release we got called this the "next episode" of the R&C series. Of course, episode doesn't necessarily mean episodic content. We're still waiting for Insomniac to respond to our e-mail for more information.

Here's to praying that this title will have online, like the PS2 versions :] I loved playing those (Although PS2 online was a bit of a pain...)

This isn't necessarily a bad thing, but they sure do crank out a hell of a lot of these R&C releases. Not on a Guitar Hero scale, though.

The press release is on Three Speech. It ends with this "Get ready for a brand new time-bending, laugh-out-loud adventure when Ratchet and Clank: A Crack In Time arrives in stores in Autumn 2009." That would seem to indicate that it is not a PSN title.

Yea that definitely points to a normal retail release, not a downloadable game, what is joystiq smoking?

I'd be very surprised if this was a PSN title. I thought that they were going with the "Every other year" method where one year it was Resistance, next year was R&C. To release a small PSN game in autumn would mean that a full R&C game would be at least another year away from now which would just throw everything off.

Three Speech is European. Let's not forget that Quest for Booty was a Blu-ray game over on that side of the pond.

Why is Joystiq starting rumours? If it's dlc i'll be hella disappointed. If it turns out to be the type of gameplay that doesn't evolve the story & just is there as dlc i'll pass. WHYY INSOMNIAC!!!!!!!! WE WANT A FULL NEW PS3 R & C TITLE!!!! That is... unless they plan on continuing the actual story as dlc & not have these bystander games. Sorry. I love everything Insomniac has done on consoles. I own nearly every Insomniac developed PSX & PS2 & PS3 game.... but this is getting pathetic. QFB didn't do the series justice neither have the PSP iterations. With the exception of Size Matters....*Crosses fingers for a fully retail R & C F*.......*Muscles tense..... blood drips through fingers*

Do you really think they're not going to make a sequel to Tools? They're going to milk that franchise until the well runs dry...and as long as they remain at the level of quality we've become accostumed to, that's fine.
Size Matters was pretty terrible, however.

It was better than QFB, don't you agree CiT shouldn't be another spin-off? It's to much.

Okay guys. This time, please put some replayability in the game, even if it is a downloadable. Quest for Booty was a rotten value not because it didn't have any content, but because you could only go through it once. Just put in a standard collect-a-thon. Give me a reason to go back and get a lot of bolts or special items or something.
I would love to see a new full-size game personally.

I think Insomniac really need to make an R&C game with multiplayer again, or better yet, a seperate downloadable PSN title which is exclusively a multiplayer game.
R&C3 was the only game I used to play online on the PS2 and I haven't properly played an online game since that. If they can make a title like that, with updates provided by PSN every now and then, I'd be sorted =]

Tools of destruction was my first R&C game. Loved it and put in many hours. Quest for Booty was also a very good game. I'm glad we have a full blown R&C coming out in the Fall.. these games are GREAT platformers!
