Rumor: Incoming Kingdom Hearts announcement next week

Did you know that Tetsuya Nomura never sleeps? When the Square Enix designer isn't working on Kingdom Hearts Birth By Sleep, Kingdom Hearts 358/2 Days, Kingdom Hearts Coded and Final Fantasy Versus XIII, he can usually be found talking to interviewers. One such tête à tête, which can apparently be found in the latest issue of Japanese mag Famitsu (translated by HeartStation), indicates that there may be even more work on Nomura's plate than we thought, as he says that Square Enix will be making an announcement regarding the Kingdom Hearts series sometime next week.
We know what we'd like to hear (Kingdom Hearts 3!), but we're not holding our breath. Alternatively, it could be an announcement regarding Coded coming to the West (possibly via the iPhone?) or a new handheld title. Whatever it may be, we'll be keeping an eye out next week for further info.

squeenix is really making me hate all the franchises I used to love by whoring them out like that. It's a real shame.

Whoring them out? I have to disagree there. I am generally anti-spinoff. I've not seen it done well too many times. Even from Squeenix, I've seen some missteps (coughDoCcough). But I trust Squeenix, and Nomura specifically, because of their track record. Plus, Crisis Core was a hell of a lot of fun (IMO more fun than the original) and I was incredibly surprised to find myself liking FFX-2 as much as I did.
A lot of KH fans want KH3, myself included. But the way I see it, if Nomura spends time working on the back-story and gameplay mechanics by working on these prequels (and sequels? unsure about Coded), that time spent will carry over into KH3, and the game will, although coming a bit later than one would hope, have a richer storyline and more refined gameplay because of it. Plus, I'm looking forward to having some KH to play that doesn't require the television.

oh I'm definitely looking forward to KH3 but just looking at that list of spinoffs and tie ins with ridiculous names is so off putting.
with the FFVII franchise I feel that by piling on all these games they're undermining the original story instead of adding to it. Now it feels like a a type of incestual soap opera where everyone knows everyone, everyone slept with everyone and no one ever dies and even if they DO die, they somehow come back.

Why was my comment voted down? I dont understand. I said nothing that should upset people unless you're someone who would be genuinely upset about a Kingdom Hearts game coming to the xbox...
I liked KH1 and 2 and I dont own a PS3 so obviously I hope it comes to the 360. Just like I'm sure Star Ocean fans who own a PS3 and not a 360 hope that TLH comes to the PS3.

I'm with you... I enjoyed KH but I don't have a PS3 (nor do I plan to buy one anytime soon) so a multi-platform release would be great!

That would be so awesome, but so unlikely. The PS3 needs a killer RPG and I doubt it'll get ported. Although you never know ...

I'm really split on that one. I've got an inkling that Nomura really doesn't like the Wii, but KH would fit Wii like a glove, and Square Enix themselves could really go either way on it.

@nutman: I, too, find it ridiculous and sad that people prize their pet consoles so dearly that they don't want other people to enjoy good games.
I'm a 360 owner and I was happy that Bioshock was coming to PS3, just because it meant that many more people would get to enjoy such an awesome game.
Console exclusives help companies make money, not gamers.

yeah, i hope kh3 comes to the 360 too. and when you think about it, its not that hard to believe. square are whores, disney are whores, they are already doing a ds, psp, and mobil game, all different stories, what to stop them from whoring it out to the 360 too.
also, if it is kh3, i hope they get rid of that triangle button shit.

Because Nomura is a Sony and Nintendo fanboy. One of the reason why FFXIII Vs. is still a PS3 exclusive.
I hope KH3 will be a PS3 exclusive, I want KH3 to take advantage of the sixaxis.

exclusives are bad for the developer, and bad for the consumer. only the console makers (nintendo, sony, microsoft) benefit from having exclusive games.
also, kh3 can be a ps3 game, and a 360 easily if you follow squares pattern.
step 1: make a good game.
step 2: create multiple games all on different systems, but all important to the story.
step 3: ????
step 4: profit.

Exclusive are not bad for developers and definitely not bad for consumer. It's bad for fanboy.
If you haven't realize this by now, then you're a fanboy. Each console is different and offer different possibilities. Also, exclusives allow developers too pool in more resources and time into the game hence more likely to be optimized. If you're a gamer, you will buy a console for the games you want. It's not bad for developers at all, look at MGS4. It did pretty good as an exclusive and offer unmatched experience from anything this gen. I hate multiplatform games mainly because they never take advantage of any system and in the end, usually a water down experience.

Nope, sixaxis is alive and well. Games like Killzone 2, Wipeout HD, MGS4 and Flower have sixaxis control. If the developers are good, the sixaxis is extremely accurate and does require a steady hand at times. My brother and some of my friends are able to make better maneuvers with the sixaxis than I can. I personally love the sixaxis since it's not force upon like the Wii. Many of the time is used like an extra button.

I say it's real. With FFXIII approaching it's release date Square Enix needs another big title keep the hype up so it keeps their company in the headlines and sell more games. KH3 would be perfect for this. They we state that they have the story laid out and are using the same graphics engine as FFXIII and to expect it late 2010, it will be availiable on the PS3 and 360. Sorry Wii owners. Novelty systems don't get real games.

because I can't figure it out. the game's great from whatever way you look at it.
on topic: if its a ps3 announcement, it doesn't affect since i dont (and probably wont ever own one) i doubt it to be a 360 announcement, that'd be seriously coming out of left field.
more ds/psp love? bring it! i have both!

Yeah Kingdom Hearts was boring and I have tried several times to play it. My friend and My GF both like these games. I just could not get into them too much. The end of 2 always looked cool though, just not my thing.
In the times we live console exclusive games are becoming things of the past in terms of popular franchises with the exception of a few (I.E. Killzone (PS), Fable (360), Resistance (PS), and Halo (360)) So I can see them dropping the main game on both PS3 and 360. A further spin-off would be dropped on the Wii.
Before I go though I got to through this in........Suikoden >>>>>>>>> KH or FF.

Anyone remember that EGM April fools joke? I actually think it's a great idea and every Kingdom Hearts should have allowed friends to control Donald & Goofy. If Secret of Mana can do it why not other games right?

They are fun (sometimes) but definitely don't tide me over for the real game. It's like, "Here's a tootsie roll, I'll give you a blow pop later!" I don't want a damn tootsie roll. I wanna chew the damn gum in that pop.

Square Enix doesn't follow those steps take a look at The Last Remnant and star ocean:The Last Hope and you will see what I mean.KH3 for ps3 would only be fair.

My son has been playing Kingdom Hearts on our old PS2 and it still looks great - even against some of the newer games.
I would like to see Wii ports of I & II.

As a statement to all those who consider themselves Kingdom Hearts fans:
Kingdom Hearts > Kingdom Hearts II
The only reason why I would want Kingdom Hearts III to remain exclusive to Playstation 3, apart from owning one, is that the other two games are distinctly 'Sony' titles. I imagine most people with a PS3 right now kept the idea of KH III's arrival only on a PS system.
To me it doesn't seem very logical to make it available on the Xbox 360 when the largest fan base is in the Playstation community. My personal complaint would be the Combat Menu and the lousy Xbox D-Pad.
