Seemingly in contrast with recent comments made by producer Allen Murray, Bungie has told Eurogamer that it currently has no Halo 3 content planned following the Fall release of Halo 3: Overly Descriptive Subtitle Treatment. "We'll never say never, but currently Bungie has no plans to make new Halo 3 content beyond the release of ODST," came the explanation. The formerly Microsoft-owned studio does, however, intend to keep supporting the popular first-person shooter with matchmaking playlist updates and uninhibited use of the fabled Banhammer.
Whether the task of generating Halo 3 content into 2010 will fall away in favor of a new game, or simply be handed over to a different studio, remains up for speculation. Either way, it seems Halo 3 will be watched over by its creators in some form or another until we all finally stop playing -- and that could be even longer than Murray's supposed two-year time frame, right?

So the Mythic Map pack is the last map pack?

Yes, the next map pack comes out with Halo 3 ODST and is the second half of the Mythic Map Pack... which includes Longshore, Heretic and Citadel. =)

Fabled banhammer? Do they have to ban a lot of people online with Halo 3?
I was about to ask what the hell ODST means again, but then I saw the tag for orbital drop shock troopers. Gad that's bad.

I hate ODST for the name of the game. I liked it much more when it was still Halo 3 : Recon.

They just recently released the numbers of how many people were banned (you can see it on Bnet, too lazy to link) and the number is only like 50k.
Out of 8+mill worldwide, and one million unique multiplayer users a day, that's very light use of the ban hammer.

They finally can tell that Halo 3 can only last so long for popularity.

I agree, Halo 3 is still the only game I consistently keep coming back to for multiplayer.

Sounds like they might be making a Halo IV over at Microsoft? I wonder what Frankie is doing over there.. hint hint hint

Yep, they are.
Now I own a PS3, but I believe a Microsoft rep said that there is going to be a Halo 4, 5, and 6. But they are being created under a different company. So no Bungie.
I might be wrong though. I dont check in with 360 news.

I always love those "we have no plans at this time" and "we currently have no plans" comments. It's so easy for them to throw out there because it means essentially nothing. Maybe tomorrow they will have plans, but not "at this moment."

Whatever happens with Halo 4, I just hope that it's made by Bungie and not contracted out to some of microsofts subsidiaries like Gearbox or whatever that rumor was.

I won't be complaining if Valve is contracted to make Halo 4. Can anybody say free DLC?!

I almost choked on my mountain dew when i read "Overly Descriptive Subtitle Treatment"
I did prefer the recon name, Halo: ODST takes way to long to say and doesn't have the same effect

lies. all lies. while they say they're done with Halo, what else are they gonna do? A GREAT studio, but they're not just gonna abandon what's made them so wildly popular and relevant.

halo 3 will still be played years from now, even when the next generation of consoles comes out. halo:ce is still popular on the pc, halo 2, which plays on the oh so boxy xbox, still has a larger than some current titles community, and halo 3 isnt slowing down.

No, people seem to be getting confused. Longshore, Heretic and Citadel was meant for the mythic map pack but now are not. They are a separate map pack.

Is ODST really overly descriptive? Were you being ironic? I never know with you, Kietzman.
