2.5 million copies of the online survival FPS game, Left 4 Dead, have been sold according to Valve project lead Michael Booth. This figure covers both the retail PC and Xbox 360 versions of the game, and surprisingly omits any sales from Valve's Steam platform.
If you haven't shot any zombies lately, you may want to jump back in soon. Valve is releasing the free Survival DLC pack next month for Xbox 360 and PC owners.

So wait, it's 2.5 million PLUS however much Steam has sold, or it's 2.5 million including Steam and we just don't know how much of that total is Steam sold?

Okay, I was going to say with the giveaway sales on Steam, this figure seems really low. But if this figure doesn't count Steam at all, it's actually a very good figure. Which makes a lot more sense since the number of friends I have who bought it would indicate a higher sell rate than 2.5M copies would indicate.

Steam randomly puts it on sale so I'm sure its number of sold is staggering.

Its funny how fanboyism works, I'm currently a PC fanboy and a small part of me is saying that console gamers don't deserve this game and yet I also know it sounds pretty damn stupid as well. Just as I'm unhappy at The Witcher coming to consoles and the possibility of Crysis 2 coming to consoles.
And I also know with fanboyism, if your system cannot get a game, you usually try to downplay the game and say its not that great. But the minute its announced for your platform, you are excited as hell, I know its going on with you and Metal Gear Solid 4. When its only on the PS3, its an overhyped game that's 90% overdramatic cutscenes but when it comes to the Xbox 360, its suddenly a fantastic game a lot more "better" people get to play and suck on that you "holier than thou" PS3 fanboys.

On Steam there will be new achievements; however, on the Xbox 360, there will be no new achievements as Microsoft doesn't allow them to be added to free updates.

I heard from a lot of different people that Microsoft didn't allow new achievements with free content, so I assumed it was true.
But it sounds like you're right.
"On February 1, 2007, Microsoft announced on their Gamerscore Blog some new policies that developers must follow related to Gamerscore and Achievements in future releases. All games must have 1,000 Gamerscore points in the base game - the title can ship with fewer than 1,000 points, but anything added later must be free. Game developers also now have the option of adding up to 250 points via downloadable content (for a total of 1,250 points) - this content can be either free or paid"

What are you complaining about? To my knowledge, installing Windows on a Mac is easier than vice versa, at least its officially supported whereas Apple doesn't allow OSX to be installed on PCs, its against their EULA. I don't care for OSX, I've used Windows my entire life and am happy with it but you get the best of both worlds.
My desktop is custom built by the way and I like how there are so many PCs to choose from, from 8" netbooks to 20" desktop replacement monsters. I am happy being a PC.

I have this game already and its great!!.. it reminds me of the good ol' days when it was all about having fun and not worrying about spending so much money on a game... I mean i understand CAPCOM and OTHER Corps. need money to pay stuff off... but sometimes they need to think about us and lets us have some fun with at least something free or very cheap in that matter..

Cosmo, you started out with a nice reply, but then...Damn, what happened? Yes, it does sound pretty stupid: Consoles don't "deserve" some PC games? That makes no sense. At all.

To sell even more! Even a $10 drop would produce a rise in sales... Mostly wishful thinking though.

Of course I'd like a pricedrop as well but look at the Wii for instance, its still selling extremely well without a single pricedrop since it launched so I'm sure Valve will keep the price for a bit. At least it is cheaper on the PC, especially with some nice deals, when I visited India in December, they had legal copies of GTA4 and L4D for $10 and $20 respectively, I bought GTA4 and despite the back saying it had to be activated in India, I activated it in the U.S and it works 100%. : )

The price was $25 at one point during a sale. I don't think the price needs to go any lower.

That's what sucks about being a fanboy, it saps you of all common sense and logic. Just like Sprinkes doesn't want any 360 games to come to the PS3 and wants all PS3 exclusives to come to the 360, it doesn't make sense and makes him sound like a total ass, just like I'm fighting against my fanboyism as well.

$60 bucks is a little expensive for this game. Your basically buying an Multiplayer only game. Single player is a joke plus there isn't much substance.

"I don't believe the ps3 deserves this game."
Thats a weird statement. Did this Video Game Console offend you?

Holy fffff so if you included the Steam numbers then you have an awful lot of sales.
And that melee fix thing is rubbish and adds something needlessly complicated to something perfectly simple (what ARE the rules for the melee timer? sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't. sometimes meleeing in the air brings up the timer too. You can have a string of melee's with no timer! wtf).

It is still beyond me why Valve wouldn't at least make an attempt at creating a team of people to familiarize themselves with the PS3 architecture. I know they're a small development team/company but it can be done.
If a game like this is selling that well, the least they can do is have EA port it like they did for Orange Box. Even if the load times are almost twice as long the overall quality should be the same as on Xbox 360 (everything seems low-grade compared to the PC counterpart, especially the visuals).
