During a GDC presentation about the bolstered graphics engine powering Dead Rising 2, Izmeth Siddeek, the game's character art lead, made a fairly startling proclomation: "Dead Rising 2 deals with the rendering of the greatest number of characters ever seen in a video game," he said. In other words, the massive amounts of on-screen zombies featured in the original Dead Rising will apparently increase by a huge margin in the sequel.
The enlarged zombie processing power can be attributed to developer Blue Castle's implementation of new visual technology called Mental Mill, which is capable of rendering large groups of characters without sacrificing graphical quality. Mental Mill product manager Laura Scholl claimed the new software will allow over 6,000 zombies to appear on-screen, providing undead multitudes that will be easy on the eyes, but rough on our formerly uneaten brains.

Now we need some way to kill 6000 zombies at once.

My guess is that it will be somewhat like Heavenly sword. Hundreds on screen but if you look closely your only fighting 20 and the rest circle around you and come in when one guy dies.

That's SO NOT like Dead Rising.
That'd just be depressing.

So does that mean the Wii port is going to have 60 zombies on screen? Nah...that's probably asking for too much.

considering that Jaleco's Ougan no Kizuna is getting a few hundred enemies on screen, and they're a much smaller company, then the shame falls on Capcom
Also the fact of "Super Mario 128" from the earliest days of the GameCube. It shows the failure of Capcom more than anything else

Sounds good. With them being packed that close together it will make for some nice Zombie + Sword carnage.

THIS IS GOING TO BE THE BEST GAME EVER!
BECAUSE THE LAST GAME WAS PREVIOUSLY THE BEST GAME EVER!
BECAUSE IT HAD ZOMBIES! AND LOTS OF WAYS TO KILL THEM! AND ESCO... Oh, right. Shit. I couldn't read the text on my TV either :<
Well, that's what sequels are for i guess. Improving on what was previously made. Let's hope the various... Irritants from the first one are removed. Then again, even if they aren't, i'll probably still have tons of fun grabbing the nearest blunt object and seeing how many zombies i can kill before my thumb gets sore. Especially since there are 6000 of them at once!

It's a good thing that they don't need to be that smart or else you might run into some problems if you had really smart AI.

the game Ikusagami demon chaos for ps2 had over 65,000 enemies on screen at once. That's not a typo. If you don't believe me then take a look at this:

JESUS CHRIST sums up my reaction to that video pretty well. I've heard about that game before... I thought the enemies would be represented as DOTS.

The most in a modern game, perhaps, but the wonders of last gen brought about quite a few things. It'll be fun to see this game in motion, though, that's for sure.

Anyone remember how many enemies there were in the KH II battle?

I'm sure it wasn't near as many as even 2,000 but one of the few games that made you feel badass against so many enemies.

6000 zombies? And only in one place? I don't think anyone in the history of games or cinema has ever had to fight so many zombies at once. Frank West is definitely zombie chow for sure this time. Unless he has a laser cannon hidden in his camera bag somewhere

I wonder if the PS3 can handle that many enemies on the screen at once.
