You might want to stop reading this now, and check out the video posted after the break. You see, when dealing with leaked gameplay footage posted on content-removal-friendly YouTube, time is seriously of the essence -- particularly when that footage was shamelessly yoinked (no, not by us) from a closed-doors GDC panel showing off the highly anticipated Uncharted 2: Among Thieves.
In case it gets pulled before you can lay eyes upon it, here's a brief recap: The footage shows the familiar gunplay and monkey-esque environment navigation from the original, though this particular clip eschews the jungles and tombs of Uncharted the First in favor of a war-torn urban locale. The series' sleek animations are even sleeker, and the gunshootery looks a bit more responsive. Also, Nate's apparently developed the ability to survive point-blank explosions. We can't wait to see how this invulnerability factors in to the game's story.
[Thanks to everyone who sent this in!]

You didn't like the JetSki levels? I really liked them - especially the whitewater one. Had a great feel to it.

Yeah I loved the jet ski levels. With their crazy water engine and physics, I'd be willing to throw down $15 on a standalone PSN game with jet ski racing with characters from ND games. Maybe even some speed boats for variety.
ND are you guys listening?

To counter the orgasm that bissy boy is having while describing the game, there are other things about the game that you have to consider.
It's a third person shooter, first and foremost (you'll be spending more time shooting than doing anything else in the game), so if that isn't your cup of tea, then you might want to pass.
If you're going into the game hoping for deep puzzles or exploration, you're better off looking elsewhere. Uncharted's exploration is so simplistic that there's no real thought involved. The hardest part of it is trying to make out what is actually a platform or a ledge and what isn't because everything blends together in the environment. The end result is that you'll simply be going from one shooting arena to the next.
The puzzles are also pretty dumbed down to the point of being near insulting. ND even admitted that they dumbed them down too far, so if you're looking for a cerebral challenge, then you'll be sorely dissappointed.
This is why all of these comparisons with Tomb Raider continually annoy the hell out of me. Tomb Raider is all about exploration and puzzles with the gun play downplayed to the point where you wonder why they bother to include it. ND chose to do the reverse, and all the uncharted fanboys trying to make a point continually ignore this.
And don't get me started on the vehicle section. There's a jeep section that is fun enough, but there's a part that takes place on the water that stopped being fun after about 2 minutes.
All that said, the characters in the game are excellent and the story and cinematic moments are top notch. The story takes a turn for the weird near the end that I think took away from the entire experience, but if you like a game with a good story, this is one of the must plays.

Well, I've played all my games on the PC and Wii (and last-gen consoles), I only just recently got a PS3, finished Resident Evil 5, and am currently going through Uncharted.
So that's 2 games on PS3, guess those graphic bugs just started on 360/PS3. I've seen it plenty on PC but at least I can switch v-sync on and fix it :(, the screen tearing bothers me the most, the pop-in I can deal with, but the tearing is so distracting.
And another thing, the waterski shit was BALLZ especially when you're going upstream and a barrel appears out of nowhere and you have to do it all over again. Seriously, fuck that level.

Nah. Graphical issues like this are fairly commonplace, even in the older consoles, though it's become more prevalent nowadays since so much emphasis has been placed on the graphical prowess of one game over the other (which is stupid IMO). Some games just either don't suffer from it as much as others, or some devs are better at hiding it. It's simply a byproduct of attempting to push the hardware/software to it's current graphical limit while trying to stay on a tight schedule. I, personally, have learned to ignore it for the most part, unless it interferes with how I play the game.
Uncharted's issues never interfered with my enjoyment of the game, so it was a non-issue with me. The jetski, stupid puzzles, enemies spawning behind the player...now all of those issues interfered with my enjoyment of the game.
*waits for the fanboys to vote this comment down as well*

You know CXM, you should really check out the term 'objective opinion', it clarly states that an individual is entitled to thier own opinion, so if they happen to think it's a great game, who are you to tell them they are wrong, the same way you many not think it's not all that, the way you're going around telling people that they shouldn't believe fanboys rah ta ta and jibber jabber, makes me wonder. See I can clearly undertstahd the points you are trying to make, but make your point and move on, if I haven't played the game yet, I'll try it for myself and form my own opinion, I don't need you breathing down my neck to tell me that others are talking rubbish and the game isn't all that or there are flaws, I can find out those flaws for myself, or if I really cared that much, I'd read a proffesional review rather then go by your personal opinions.
Your getting voted down because you seem to have a problem with the 'fanboys' as you call them, but forget the reason they became fanboys of the game to begin with is because they thoroughly enjoyed it, you wouldn't become a fanboy if you didn't like a game would you? I'm a fanboy of many games and thus would obviously speak highly of them, ignoring the flaws as the flwas did not effect my judgement of the game enough to make it not worth playing, are you going to rubbish my opinions and dictate what people should like and dislike in the games I like too?

HA! I have no issue with people thinking it's a great game. What makes me laugh is how those same people feel the need to shout down anyone who doesn't have the same opinion of the game. Hell, I enjoyed the game, for the most part, so it's not like I'm on a mission to tear it down.
If you look at the internet population when speaking about the game, though, you'd think that there wasn't anything wrong with the game. It's not just a case of people ignoring the flaws. There are people denying there are any flaws and persecuting people who say otherwise. That's what catches my attention and my personal quirk compels me to poke at it until people take notice.
Hell, I consider it a public service of sorts. You preach about objective opinions, but a vast majority of the posts regarding the game don't want that...they want to make people believe the game is the best thing ever and that is completely skewing the perspective of people who haven't played the game yet. They're being setup to be underwhelmed or downright disappointed because the gameplay just can't live up to the mountain of hype the fanboys have built up. They may still enjoy it, but it just can't live up to what people are spouting.
That's why I'm trying to provide a counterpoint to the raving love-fest in order to bring the person's expectations back down to reasonable levels so they can go into the game with an even keel. Point out that, no, it's not a perfect game so that people who go into it can go into it knowing that they can't expect it to be.
But whatever...this post will be voted into oblivion along with the rest which is sad if you think about it. People so scared of another point of view that they'd rather everyone else only see their side of the issue. That's some serious insecurity, there.
Oh, and Tetris is as close to a perfect game as we'll likely get anytime soon. Simple but compelling, it's the type of game that stands the test of time. Too few games do.

Well, think about it, if I wasn't sure about getting Uncharted, I would rent it out and test it out myself, people are bound to be biased about what they enjoy, and don't deny it, you too are biased about the things you enjoy, if I was to meet you on a casual day and ask you what food, books etc you liked, I'm sure you'd talk more about WHAT you like before telling me WHY you like it, you aren't going to give me the negatives are you? If you bombarded me with positives and then negatives afterwards, if I was that easily influenced, I would be less inclined to try out the game.
The first thing I do when having played a good game is recommend it to mates, if it wasn't a game I enjoyed, I wouldn't recommend it if I know the people around me have similar tastes. I'm got going to sit there telling them "Yea, its awesome, go and by it, oh, by the way, the storyline sucks, the gameplay mechanics are a little wonky at times, the framerate drops, there are some cliche ideas that seem to have just been thrown in, character development could be better, but other then that its great!"
Like I said, you're fooling yourself if you think you can convert every fanboy to telling the truth about games, there are millions of Halo fanboys, but Halo is nothing special, there are millions of GTA fanboys but GTA doesn't change much, there are millions of people who like chips, I happen to find them boring, and gamers are inclined to boost their game's rep, so if you plan on preaching to the masses about the flaws in Uncharted, you better do the same for every other game in existance while you're at it, why don't you give people great reasons why they should by Haze and Lair seeing as how you have a life mission to show people the opposite of what they are seeing.

cxm, this is about as retarded as going into a post about Halo and trying to defend why you think it's overrated by calling everyone fanboys. You're getting down voted because of the way you present your opinion.
Also, give me a freaking break, we're calling people fanboys of CERTAIN GAMES now?? It was one thing when the fanboy moniker got thrown around all too often during console wars, but seriously, Uncharted fanboys? THERE'S ONLY ONE FCKING GAME!! How can you be a fanboy of something like this?? Drop the damn boy part, they are fans, not fanboys. I'm getting really sick of that word.
If it was someone that came in to bash KZ2 or Uncharted just because it's on the PS3, THAT'S a fanboy. Not people who just like one game.

Cxm, you are the one who sounds like he needs to shout down people...
You talk about people claiming the game has no flaws, but I've not read such a thing in Joystiq's comments. You make good points, and you may have liked the game despite its flaws, but posting long comment after long comment, repeating the same thing, more or less, will make people vote you down.

oh get off it. Comments with even a hint of negativity about the game were being voted down long before I started this schpiel. Hell, why do you think I started this ruckus in the first place? Nothing annoys me more than a mob mentality that tries to steamroll over anyone who thinks differently, and the internet's behavior with regards to this game is just one example of it.
And yes, I do mean to use the term "fanboy" and not "fan". Fans are people who like something and appreciate it, despite its flaws, and aren't afraid to acknowledge that the subject of their adoration HAS flaws. Fanboys take any sort of negative comment about their object of devotion as a personal insult and either try to bury the negative comments or persecute the people who make them. And yes, even for games. You don't have to look very hard to find them. Every big game that has a devoted following has a large enough number of them. Some just more than others.
This was fun for a bit, but I'm bored with this now. Moving on.

Seriously tho, It's been great for PS3 owners, but the 360 needs E3 to show it's goods.

Oh yeah, I have no doubt they'll have something more interesting for E3, it's just that after OXM claimed that Microsoft had something big for GDC I was quite hyped, anticipating something impressive - ODST footage, for example, or a teaser for Lionhead's next game.
And then ... nothing happened.

Let's go Naughty Dog and Sucker Punch.Chop Chop!!! Oh and what happens if the things Drake grabs hold of break? Does he fall to his doom? Because if the sign or pole breaks how will he continue climbing?

It's like GG and ND are working with the PS3, and all of a sudden a Trophy icon appears and it says 10% MOAR POWER UNLOCKED! And it happens every year.
If this game can keep its framerate and detail level up without tearing, I'll be very impressed. The volumetric snow from the old trailer was especially impressive. At any rate, day one purchase just like Uncharted was.

Game looks fine... but it looks like a billion other games. Do we really need another shooty game in a gritty urban environment?
Coming soon, Prince of Persia: LA takedown. Mario 3D: Die Harder. Pikmin 3: Modern Warfare.

I don't hate my PS3 by any means. I might play my 360 more than it but I have played on it more than my Wii. I've dug games such as the latest Killzone for argument's sake & I at least own Rock Band, MSG4 and Little Big Planet, but I can't but help feel that Uncharted was and seems to still be the best this system has to offer next to Little Big Planet in many many ways. MSG4 was great and a revelation, but it's mostly for fans of that series and gamers with a lot of patience or those who buy anything hyped as much. Little Big Planet is an amazing game and closer to perfect than Uncharted which also comes close to the childhood feeling I've lost or been spoiled from but it's still more suited for children or those inclined to always feel Mario adventure games are any year's best game... Although at times who can argue with that?
No, my only complaints with the last Uncharted were in how many bullets it took to take down tank top wearing or naked enemy and that those same enemies were reused skins, other than that the game was a delight and an experience to share. So after so much rambling, MORE Drake for me! Anyhow this looks even more beautiful than my memories the first time through his world. Release day will be enjoyed.

While I am excited about the game, it is starting to look to me like they took the entire feeling out of the first game and made this more of the same thing you can find in many games. I loved the island treasure hunt, and I feel that an exotic location in the sequel would have excited me more.
