Marvel Universe MMO keeping masked until 2012
What with analysts anticipating new console launches and the Mayans predicting our doom, 2012 is set to be a pretty eventful year, though we'll probably be too busy living out our lifelong fantasy of being Ant-Man to notice. Simon Philips, Marvel's president of worldwide consumer products, let slip in a recent interview that the upcoming Marvel-based MMO isn't expected to be released until sometime in 2012.
The exec told MTV comic blog Splash Page that the time will be spent creating an "environment that is going to be a totally immersive experience and a perpetual storytelling experience as well." Until that time, we suppose we'll just have to make do with dressing up in spandex and pretending to save the world ourselves. Or, as we've come to call it, Wednesday.

The PS3 aint even close to a new console yet ... why make a new system when the PS3's graphics can be of higher than the Xbox 360. SO technically you mean spending a ton more money on a brand new Xbox system or keeping your still amazing system PS3 for like 5 years.
By 2012 comes along a new Xbox system will probably come out
The Dark Wayne @ Mar 28th 2009 1:33PM
I wasn't aware the PS3 made the consoles itself, so it must be some sort of self replicating nanotech machine that upgrades itself every few years
Dan @ Mar 28th 2009 1:35PM
I get the impression that you're a PS3 fanboy, but honestly I can barely decipher what you're even trying to say. Where was a new xbox system mentioned in the article?
Roto13 @ Mar 28th 2009 1:41PM
Never comment again.
Powaqqatsi @ Mar 28th 2009 1:43PM
What the hell? Are you in the right room?
This game sounds pretty sweet. I don't think I'd be willing to pay a fee, though, if there is one.
grudgeoms @ Mar 28th 2009 1:46PM
Lol im not a fanboy, I was being sarcastic.
Reader @ Mar 28th 2009 2:02PM
So you say... yet every comment on your profile is dissing the 360, upping the PS3, and saying you're not a PS3 fanboy (followed by an opinion in favor of the PS3).
grudgeoms @ Mar 28th 2009 2:03PM
Yup :)
ice~ @ Mar 28th 2009 2:07PM
Do you even know how to reply?
grudgeoms @ Mar 28th 2009 2:09PM
Yeah?
The Dark Wayne @ Mar 28th 2009 2:10PM
no, obviously you do not
shadowhowl1900 @ Mar 28th 2009 2:14PM
ok...this is the first ive heard of this game. Let me guess, Marvel Universe is Xbox exclusive, since its labelled with Xbox and not PS3, and DC universe is PS3 exclusive?
The Dark Wayne @ Mar 28th 2009 2:16PM
im not sure why it was tagged with xbox, but I know DCUO is going to be on PC and PS3, and I would assume this is going to be on PC too
atrimus @ Mar 28th 2009 3:59PM
i was wondering that too. i don't think they've even announced a platform for this new Marvel MMO (which is certainly not the same Marvel MMO 360 had a while back that got canceled). but what can you expect, considering Joystiq is kinda notorious for tagging multiplatform news to one system only (usually XBox 360).
Nathan-DTS @ Apr 4th 2009 5:39PM
really, I thought both DC & Marvel MMOs were multiplatform. Well I don't really mind missing the Marvel one so long as I get to play the DC one.Flash, Batman, Superman and Daredevil over Spiderman, X-men, Hulk and Fantastic Four any day.I can imagine these games creating another comic war.

Ahh, the sweet smell of vaporware. I'll keep a place on my bookshelf empty for it right next to the space I've set aside for Duke Nukem Forever and Mario 128.
The Dark Wayne @ Mar 28th 2009 10:25PM
vapor ware only counts when it was announced years ago. Sure the Marvel Universe MMO was announced, but then it was declared dead, and now this is with a different company. It's far from duke nukem or Darkfall levels
damnreds @ Mar 30th 2009 4:54PM
darkfall was released, somewhat
Batzarro @ Mar 28th 2009 5:46PM
Oh, cartoonish Supervillainy, here I come! You fools! Mwa-hahahaha!
Cain Highwind @ Mar 28th 2009 11:02PM
Interesting, because the recently announced Marvel+Tatsunoko crossover Anime series is ALSO due in 2012.
Alexander @ Mar 29th 2009 1:17AM
I can see it now, thousands upon thousands of Spider-man and Wolverines.
Also, I can't wait untill 2012. Either nothing happens and I laugh at everyone I know who believed it, or we'll all be dead and no can rub it in my face ;).
dylan @ Mar 29th 2009 8:16PM
So the coming 2012 Apocalypse is actually just the playable Marvel character Apocalypse? On the one hand, kinda a letdown, on the other you can play as Apocalypse! (please tell me you can play as Apocalypse!)
