Rather than hoping that the merits of its soon-to-be-released handheld will sell themselves (a strategy commonly referred to as the "Game Boy Micro Maneuver"), Nintendo is apparently plotting a huge North American marketing campaign for the DSi. The company has already developed a schedule of television, online and in-store advertisements for the shutterbugged device from now until Christmas, making it Nintendo's biggest ad campaign of the year.
Step one in this campaign is already in action to ensure early adoption of the revamped handheld -- anyone who purchases a DSi and signs on to the Nintendo DSi Shop by October 5 will receive 1,000 free DSi Points. It's a succesful promotion that also accompanied the system's Japanese launch -- not that Japanese game consumers needed additional incentive to purchase yet another DS.

Nintendo is like the Apple of the gaming world. This is a guaranteed huge success.
I'm not complaining though. The DS is the best handheld system on the market. If the Wii got a tenth of the support the DS gets from some developers it would be a brilliant console.

Piracy is nothing to :D about.
The DS's lack of great games recently is due almost solely to people like you.

I agree with Esposch. Game development goes in cycles (usually 18 months-two years) and piracy on the DS reached PSP levels around two years ago. The companies that had already started projects couldn't just go ahead and cancel, so they released their games and received the diminished returns. Companies that did see the start of this heinous trend scaled back DS funding to almost zero. So while Konami released Lunar Knights in 2007, one of their biggest releases for that year, what do they have lined up for 2009? Nothing, nothing at all. And that's the same story for all the big publishers, EA excluded.
Pirates are trying to create a PSP situation here, and it's so disheartening.

I sold my DS Lite and PSP and had enough to get the DSi and some games. I hated the Lite after I got it because of the enamel finish and the useless GBA port. The DSi with the matte finish is right up my ally.
Plus I have a Gameboy Micro Famicom and love it.

They could release the previous Pokemon games and a way to trade forward... they would make more money than the money factory.

Why do they never release nice colors in NA? I would really consider replacing my broken hinge Lite if they were going to sell the Metallic Blue DSi.

Shallow as it sounds, I'll be picking up a Lime Green DSi in a few days. Buying it in Japan AFTER the UK release just for the colour... and also because the DLC for Japan will probably be better.

Personally I reckon the Phat is unbeatable in terms of price.
At AU$75 (Cheaper than a Wii game) there is no excuse not to get one.

Although if you live overseas then the extra $40 for the DSi might be worth it for the downloadable GBA/GBC games.

I wish you guys would use a different DSi pic. That color looks so damn ugly. It looks like something that would be in some old lady's bathroom.

October 5th? That's 5 days before my birthday. I guess that cements me not getting a DSi.
As much as I want one as to not be locked out of the new games, I'm not going to just because the DSI is a peice of crap. More of a downgrade than an upgrade, seeing as how you're losing a GBA port and any and all things added to the DSi could easily be done on the DS-Lite.
Let's see:
0.3 Megapixel Cameras (I don't even think cell phones go that low): The DS-Lite has it's own Camera/Webcam in Japan
Storage Solution: Hombrew Artists beat them to the punch
I don't think there's anything else, aside from Software. In which case, what do you lose?
-Gba Slot
-$40
Let's value the GBA-slot at $40. That's $80 total difference from the Lite for 2, let's say $5 cameras (Even though that's exagurrating it a bit) and an SD slot (Let's say another 5, just guessing).
Where'd the other $65 go?
Now let's talk about the necessity. Is there -ANYTHING- about the DSi that makes it mandatory to buy instead of just changing your Lite a bit?
The camera bit was already taken care of. As for the SD slot, they could just go with microSD and do the same thing as Flashcarts.
I think I've also heard it has added RAM, so..
What was stopping Nintendo from releasing a GBA slot with a Micro-SD slot, RAM, and the software that's included with the DSi? Then you've got pretty much the same exact thing in a different design, plus the option to use that GBA cart, and an extra $40 in your pocket (Unless you already had a Lite, in which case it's $170 more).
Now, I wouldn't be complaining if this was $130 like the Lite, but you have to admit, Nintendo is just being greedy when it comes to the pricing of the DSi. But that's fine, I'd love to see people waste their money on it.
But what I have a problem with is that they're planning on releasing games that are DSi-exclusive even though the DS-Lite is more than capable of playing them (The 'apps' on the DSiStore are hardly memory draining). But that's fine too. The apps on the DSiStore hardly seem like they're worth paying for. But God, DSi Carts? That's crap.
Now let's talk pricing. According to my guess, the DSi should be around $35 cheaper to make. If that's the case, why is it $170?
You could argue that my guesses aren't necessarily accurate, but then you have to admit: The DSi costs no more to produce than the DS-Lite, if not less.
In which case, let's look at the PSP. The Madden 09 bundle was $170.
The bundle included: a $40 Madden 09 Game ($130 for the PSP now), a UMD movie ($120 for the PSP now), and a 1GB Memory Stick, dropping the cost of a PSP-Slim to $110. Do you seriously think the DSi is worth $170, when you could buy a PSP for only $110?
You could say "But you have to get the extras!". Well, when it was $170, the game was easily traded-in for $40 (I know this first hand because I -did- it). So it's $130 for a PSP, Memory Stick, and a UMD. And you'd be out of your mind if you think the DSi costs more to produce.
DSi = Suck

If you think it's too expensive, don't buy it. Whining about the price isn't going to change it. And if the DSi doesn't sell well, they'll have to drop the price. It's called capitalism.

I find it ironic how I'm downvoted yet nobody disagreed with my opinion.
I take back the part about "DSi = Suck", I was rushing to get my post done (If you want to know why, read the first part of my comment in the Rhythm Heaven review page).
The DSi doesn't suck, in my opinion. But in my opinion, the mega-inflated price of the DSi during recession, the lack of upgrades to warrant a purchase (let alone a price increase), the DSi exclusive carts (even though any which don't require a camera would easily be compatible with the Lite, but you know they'll be DSi-only anyways), the fact that it's a mandatory upgrade for practically the same system plus something you could just add to the old one (minus an important feature), all sucks.
The DSi does seem like a fun system though. I'll upgrade when the price drops to $130, or a Bundle makes the price of the DSi $130 with mandatory extra-purchases. Until then, it's a no-go.

As for "If you think it's too expensive, don't buy it": I think you didn't notice that I practically said "I'm not buying it, one of the reasons being that it /costs more than it's worth/'. That's not really the same as saying it's too expensive. The PS3, IMO, is too expensive. The DSi is just a rip-off. Though, if that's what you interpreted, you were just stating the obvious (what I said I was going to do).
Obviously though, it's going to sell well. At this point, it's obvious. I'm just giving my opinion. I suppose it's still possible that everybody that wants a DSi will buy it right off the bat, but the DSi will lack in continuous sales like the Lite had. Let's wait and see

Sorry, the DSi has a CPU clocked at double the mhz, so that would be a tad bit hard to stick inside a DS Lite. End of story, thank you for trolling.

I'm really not sure if I should buy the Blue DSi. I'm really sick and tired of the plain Black and I really want to get the Blue one but Every Picutre and video I see is different. Some show it a dark Blue and others are just to bright.
Anyway I might just buy the Blue one just to have a different color FINALLY.
...I'd still rather have an Orange DS.

DSi is crap indeed. What some people forget is that the DSi is primarily a gaming handheld. Regarding gaming, it is 99.9% the same as the DS lite. That 0.1% would be for games that use the camera. From what I saw in the ads, they felt like they came from the 80's, early 90's... when touchscreens were first made commercial. "Make funny effects on your image"... crap.
Best investment: Get an $80-$90 almost-new DS lite on ebay, buy an Acekard 2.1 + MicroSD for $23, and... you know the rest.

Yes, Orange DS - Yes.
It might actually happen at some point too, orange is a colour that that is gaining in popularity. More and more things are orange - there is even a orange ipod.
Though, the issue with orange is that there are so many crappy shades of it, and rarely does anyone just pick up a orange (The fruit) and say "This!"
Also, I'll have to wait and see what my money supply is like at that point - when it comes out. No promises or anything, but if I have disposable income - I'll probably buy it.
