We thought we'd pass along a courteous reminder from Activision informing the gaming community that Guitar Hero: Metallica began rocking store shelves today. If you haven't found current full-band simulators to be punishing enough, Metallica promises to deliver with an "Expert +" mode, double kick pedals, and guitar solos capable of turning even the sturdiest fingers into tiny puddles of red goo. If you've got $59.99 lying around (or $49.99 for the Wii version, $39.99 for the PS2), you can simulate "riding the lightning"* with unparalleled accuracy.
*Warning: Riding lightning can lead to unintended health consequences in the groin region, including serious unsightly burns and impotence. Consult your doctor before deciding to mount any arcs of electricity.
Update: The PS2 version isn't actually dropping until Sunday, May 24 -- meaning Activision is effectively tainting two of 2009's Sabbath days with a touch of unholy metal.

I don't think the second kick pedal is compatible with the rock band set.

Bah! I'm an idiot.
The pedal won't work with a Rock Band drum kit, but should work fine with any software that supports the GH drum kit.
I'll learn to read better.

Rock Band pedals (RB1, RB2, ION) are not compatible with the GHWT drum kits. Same goes the other way around.
If you want double bass on your RB set, don't try a splitter; if you use a splitter, you won't be able to hold down one pedal and kick with another. In order for the pedals to register one has to be up when the other is getting hit.
Solution: if you're not afraid of circuit diagrams and such, go here:
http://www.engadget.com/2008/04/24/rock-band-kick-pedal-modded-for-double-bass-action/
Alternatively, if you're lazy and/or not DIY-savvy (like me), you can buy this:
http://omegapedal.com/twinrocker/index.html
By the way, if you own a GHWT kit, a 3.5mm / 1/8" splitter DOES work for double-bass, Expert+ action if you have a second GH pedal.

I'm pretty sure what he's asking is: If he uses a dual-pedal GHWT drum set with Rock Band, will both pedals register?
The answer, I ain't got.

Well sorry, but for those who jumped on board prior to 1997 there's a lot more than 4 good songs on there.

Yeah there's alot more I'd like to see on there. My guess is they are going to milk customers with DLC of the remaining classics. They have to monetize it for a while you know.
At least they put For Whom the Bell Tolls and Master to get us to actually buy it in the first place. If there was a lack of anything pre-black it would be tough to swallow buying it initially until seeing what was going to be done DLC wise in the back catalog.

You're not if you saw the entire track list and still think there's only 4 good songs. There's 6 songs taken from Master of Puppets alone, so you've already lost.

It's more ignorant to call yourself a fan of a band and only like 4 songs, specially when the majority are from the era that metallica fans agree was their best. IMO, you're no more a fan of metallica than the people who only heard Load, Reload etc and think that's their best work.

then...
"Music is an opinion, it's ignorant to tell me my choices are wrong."
... so why did you state the above as if it were a fact?

I'm playing it right now and it's pretty good. Obviously you get started with the easy songs first so I can't comment on the ankle breakers like Dyer's Eve and War Ensemble yet but the presentation is awesome. It feels like they put more work into this than GHWT

I have no idea if everyone fails if 1 does, that would really suck though. I'm waiting for at least 1 of my friends to get this, if any of them do. Unfortunately, they browse the internet a lot so they're caught up in the GH hate too which is sad because this one was not lazily made.
As for cliff, they didn't put him in the game. They didn't put Jason in either, they just wanted Rob to feel happy I guess haha.

The metallica models are fantastic for the most part and they act like they do in a real concert. Like I said the overall presentation is excellent and they really put a lot of effort into it.

It's GHWT, with a few bug/dumb interface fixes and Metallica. Nothing more, nothing less. I love Metallica and have been listening to them since the early 80's, but the game is held back by the engine. I know it's cliched at this point, but the RB engine is sooo much better than anything they have in the GH stable at this point. Looks better, plays better and plays "more fun" if that makes any sense. It's still a fun game though, maybe not quite $60 worth of fun, but fun all the same. I have no regrets buying it.

I'm torn on this. First and foremost, wait long enough, and I can get this for $15. Second, I don't like the aesthetics Neversoft cranks. Sorry, Harmonix has class... Third, I tend to like the metalicca everyone else hates. So like the aerosmith mix, I'd probably get roughly 2-8 songs tops worth of enjoyment out of this.
And finally, sorry, Rock Band spoiled me. I have nearly 300 songs on Rock Band 2. Why in the hell do I want to go back to swapping discs.

So you are telling me if you don't want to swap disc.
you are not getting Rock band Beatles then huh. Because there is a big chance that it wont be Transfer-able like AC/DC was.
I mean that would kill the originality it has as a 250$ games (25% + more then the RB2 bundles)
