Infinite Space hits Japanese shelf space in June

Platinum Games' second project (the first to be released in Japan) is about as different from MadWorld as any game could be: it's Infinite Space, the epic sci-fi RPG for DS. Sega just announced that it'll be released in Japan on June 11. No international release dates have been announced yet, though GameStop suggests July 7. Infinite Space casts the player as a spaceship crew member who works his way up to captain, and features giant, customizable spaceships and wireless ship-to-ship battles.

Along with the announcement, Sega refreshed the Japanese website for the RPG with some animated story scenes, and released new screenshots. Hopefully as we approach release, we'll be able to see more gameplay stuff.

I have no idea this game was coming so soon. I thought it'd come after Bayonetta some time.

Yeah, I remember reading a later release date. I sure hope they get the battle controls down nicely, I'd hate to see another great game with weak controls. Still, Sega hasn't let me down on the DS yet (with their Japanese releases, Sonic is another story).

I'm more interested in the fact that it's being developed by Platinum than the fact that it's being published by Sega. :P

So this game is getting a Western release, or are Gamestop being overly presumptuous? It's still a Sega published DS game, so I'm wary about getting excited over a possible localisation. So many RPGs stay in Japan.

Let's hope my pessimism is unwarranted or misinformed, or something.
