Eidos' surprisingly addictive GTA-clone, Just Cause, is getting the sequel treatment and, according to IGN UK's eyes-only preview, Rico's return will blow the wool socks off your feet and back onto the sheep from whence they were created.
Looking to leave the life of a bad ass, helicopter-jackin' special agent, Rico Rodriguez is forced back into action when his friend and mentor, Tom Sheldon, supposedly goes rogue. Just Cause 2 includes maneuvers immediately familiar to fans of the original. Rico has a seemingly infinite supply of parachutes and grappling hooks, which can be used to glide around the world, hijacking aircraft and vehicles, Pursuit Force style. New to the series is the ability to use the hook in combat, allowing players to grab and throw enemies as well as impale them with the ferocity of a Mortal Kombat character.
Just Cause 2 also attempts to up the ante, as it were, by revamping the visuals -- new screens available on IGN already look infinitely better than the hi-res, prev-gen version released on the Xbox 360 in 2006. Developer Avalanche says the game will include over 100 vehicles and 50 "varied" missions. Just Cause 2 is slated to release on the Xbox 360, PS3 and PC later this year.

Not saying it was a bad game, but when you throw out stats about how big your map is, how its like GTA but set during a war, etc. You better have interesting shit to do within that island. The first game was an empty, monotonous, repetitive experience that led me to into a depression the world hasnt seen since 1929

I just started playing Just Cause a month ago (put in down since because of recent releases) and I really enjoy it.
You jump through spinning helicopter blades to hijack the ride. That's so f*ed up, it's rad.

do you just clip through them or somehow dodge them between spins?

Yeah, I can't agree with anyone about Just Cause cause I actually loved the game... though I will admit I could see how it was repetitive.

I liked the original but I got it for like $30. It made me think about how awesome GTA 4 would have been if Niko had a grappling hook and some parachutes :(
Anyway I imagine I'll pick this up too when it drops a bit in price.

Wow, you guys are on top of the news tonight.
Just Cause 2 will be a wait and see game for me, I already made the mistake of buying Mercs 2 right off the bat...

The studio making Just Cause 2 recently released a hunting simulation game called The Hunter with amazing graphics and some of the best grass I've seen in a video game. I believe Just Cause 2 is using the same engine, which is promising as not only did The Hunter look great, it ran great as well.

They're pretty good with outdoor graphics. I still think the first game has some of the best looking jungle/sky areas. Character models and urban areas weren't great, but everything else was amazing looking.

Hopefully the 50 varied missions aren't just the main storyline missions. The sideline quests were repetitive as all get out in the first one.

I picked up just cause out of a used game bin last fall for like $15 not expecting much. It was way more entertaining than I thought it would be and the graphics on it, for a game I never heard of before, were really good, especially with the huge world. My dad bought mercs 2 a couple days later & I found just cause was way better and I didn't really want to touch mercs 2.
I won't be getting this on release day, but if reviews are decent I'll probably pick it up.

Loved the first one, the missions did get repetitive towards the end though when I was trying do all the factions.
But what an experience playing that game was. Felt like going on holiday every time I put Just Cause on. More skydiving please!! And insanely high mountains to jump off!

Mercenaries 1 > Mercenaries 2
Mercenaries 1 > Just Cause 1
Just Cause 1 > Mecenaries 2
Just Cause 2 > Mercenaries 1?
Let's hope so.
i love the first Just Cause and the first Mercs, but was not a huge fan of Mercs 2, really spoiled the whole IP. As long as it shapes up to be even better than JC2 and keeps that insane amount of fun then I'ma be buying.

The most ridiculous sequence in an action game for me- skydiving after the general and trying to attach a bomb to his back? Pure win, Just Cause was pure awesome, with some naps tucked away inside it.
