Oh god. I fucking hate this prick. Is there no bigger tool in country music?
Markez @ Mar 30th 2009 11:41AM
If it weren't for country music we wouldn't have song names like "Beer for my Horses" or "I've Been Flushed From The Bathroom Of Your Heart" or "Sex with my Sister"
Eric @ Mar 30th 2009 11:46AM
HAHAHA yes because the world is such a better place with this man's "Art" playing on the radio. He is basically a War Profiter in my eyes. Writing songs about how American it is to bomb poor countries across the globe, because thats how his redneck father would have done it. Also he is the worst kind of country music. He wears a cowboy hat and boots to prove how country he is. It's all style no substance to his music. He should give beer to his horses, then ride them drunkenly right off a cliff.
Alex Sohn @ Mar 30th 2009 2:00PM
I just love how everyone complains when they release something they don't like, and then the week they do release something they DO like, they spend all their time defending it in the forums.
For pete's sake, this is Rock Band, not YOUR Band, I wouldn't listen to Toby Keith if it were the last thing on earth to listen to, but for crying out loud, I'm not the only person on earth that bought Rock Band either.
Let all the Toby Keith fans enjoy their music, after all they did spend $100 plus dollars for the game + instruments let them get something out of their investment.
Really everyone just needs to piss off, if you think the music that is out there is so terrible, go out and start your own band. Or here's a thought, DON'T BUY IT!!!!
Eric @ Mar 30th 2009 2:05PM
First of all i don't care if they release this for Rock Band. I am just stating my dislike for the man and his music.
Michael T @ Mar 30th 2009 3:25PM
@Eric: "Also he is the worst kind of country music. He wears a cowboy hat and boots to prove how country he is. It's all style no substance to his music."
Re: "country"-ness. Don't forget he also used to advertise for Ford trucks, too. I particularly remember him dropping some kind of large metal truck part on a table occupied by Chevy drivers. I guess to prove how much bigger his cock.... er, truck is than theirs.
And I would argue there's not much style to his music, either.
lasersanchez @ Mar 30th 2009 5:30PM
Half of me thinks he sucks, the other half of me appreciated his humor on the Stephen Colbert Christmas Special and the Roast of Larry the Cable Guy (who I also don't care much for).
tmacairjordan87 @ Mar 30th 2009 11:39AM
"The only thing black at a Toby Keith concert is a woman's eye" -Warren Sapp
Taken from that last comedy central roast. It was one of the highlights for me.
lasersanchez @ Mar 30th 2009 5:31PM
It was funny. I liked all the jokes about Larry the Cable Guy being a character and not an actual person.
Jeramy @ Mar 30th 2009 11:45AM
god save us all
FrannieBaby @ Mar 30th 2009 11:46AM
For once, I feel nothing but relief that Rock Band tracks aren't coming to the Wii.
lasersanchez @ Mar 30th 2009 6:06PM
Eventually they will make their way to the Wii Marketplace and then you will have to buy them.
Mike @ Mar 30th 2009 11:47AM
Please get your Toby Keith out of my Joystiq.
HazyCloud @ Mar 30th 2009 11:48AM
This is not all the of the DLC planned for next week. It was mentioned in the press release. More to come this Friday.
MrSpaceCowboy @ Mar 30th 2009 12:01PM
I hope you're right, because at the moment; DO NOT WANT
VaultICEE @ Mar 30th 2009 1:55PM
Hmm. Wondered why the post managed to neglect that...
It says right on the announcement page that its only a fraction of next week's DLC.
sqwarlock @ Mar 30th 2009 11:49AM
You're a couple of days early for an April Fools joke.
Eh @ Mar 30th 2009 11:53AM
6 songs for toby keith?
Who cares about only having 1 or 2 songs from major rock bands, or leaving out their biggest hits, shit, we got 6 songs from toby keith
lasersanchez @ Mar 30th 2009 5:34PM
Have you considered that Harmonix wants to bring you every song you want so as to get more of your money but is probably tied up by legal problems?
waynski1457 @ Mar 30th 2009 11:54AM
Even though I agree that he is a total douche, I think it speaks more for RB that they are broadening their musical library. After all, I'm sure some people will buy this. And I'm sure that I'll probably end up singing one of these drunk at a friends house playing RB, even if it's not the song that's playing.
Ethiopian Jew @ Mar 30th 2009 11:58AM
great, something to do actually at the Klan meetings now
murph @ Mar 30th 2009 11:55AM
No "Weed with Willie" damn you Teen rating, damn you!!
GhostofGrendel @ Mar 30th 2009 11:58AM
I could not possibly hate this sell out piece of white trash any worse. Not to mention that his music is awful and the lyrics could be generated with a simple program probably available for download on cmt dot com because let's be honest every country song made the last 10 years or so is nearly exactly the same. If you want to hear some good country go find some Cash, Haggard, Twitty, Travis, even Kenny Rogers or Alabama to name a few.
"I'm a Ford truck man, that's all I drive"
ugh
It makes me physically ill that this jackass is even relevant in our society.
Eric @ Mar 30th 2009 12:03PM
Right on man, Country music is in the same place that rock music was in the late 80's. it's all about style, no substance. Alt country is really the only place to find true country music now a days.
FrannieBaby @ Mar 30th 2009 12:04PM
Comes with banjo, jug and chaw peripherals (ptoo, ding)!
dark_inchworm (on Steam!) dark inchworm (on XBL!) @ Mar 30th 2009 12:06PM
How about more Drive-By Truckers instead?
Or, you know, some industrial rock other than NIN... not getting my hopes up though...
SBrooks1 @ Mar 30th 2009 12:12PM
This is a good thing for the platform and the expanding of music available on it. My wife will love this!
EtOH @ Mar 30th 2009 12:18PM
I would buy some Willie Nelson, but that is the only country I would ever buy. None of this crap. I hope the other songs would be good, but with a 'big' name like this, they will likely be indie bands we have never heard of.
stanmarsh01 @ Mar 30th 2009 12:26PM
Dammit, out of all the country artists they pick Toby Keith? Really? Was brad paisley's guitar too difficult to transcribe?
Joe @ Mar 30th 2009 7:40PM
Yeah, toby keith is a bad choice for RB... Brad Paisley would be fantastic for the guitar, but I'd really just like some Johnny Cash.
G$ @ Mar 30th 2009 12:41PM
Damn, get some Steve Earle! There's so many good choices out there: Johnny Cash, Willie Nelson, Merle Haggard, etc.
Toby Keith is horrible. What Dane Cook did for comedy. Toby Keith has done for country music.
CannabisPrime @ Mar 30th 2009 4:02PM
"What Dane Cook did for comedy. Toby Keith has done for country music."
Haha! Well put!
Miles @ Mar 30th 2009 4:52PM
If this is true, fuck Toby Keith.
Gemini Ace @ Mar 30th 2009 12:43PM
I love Harmonix so much for bringing Ten to RB. Then they do this and I want to kick them in the collective cocks.
Graeme Q @ Mar 30th 2009 12:50PM
Sooooo.....who the hell is Toby Keith?
I gather he's country?
Has he ever sold a record outside of the US to someone who isn't american?
(this isn't an anti-american post, its a "why are they giving us this shit" post)
Michael T @ Mar 30th 2009 3:30PM
Probably not, as Americans seem to be the arbiters of bad taste for the world.
Disclosure: I am an American who lives in the Deep South.
Rocketboy @ Mar 30th 2009 12:51PM
I'm cool not having Wii parity this time around...
really, work on other things...
inevercheckthis @ Mar 30th 2009 12:54PM
I would love to see how poorly this DLC does in comparison to other RockBand DLC.
legendtaker117 @ Mar 30th 2009 12:54PM
I love country music as much as I love Rock music, but why all the hate for Toby Keith and country music in general.
please enlighten me, cause I dont understand.
catfish24 @ Mar 30th 2009 3:09PM
lol, music that doesn't sound like metal or another form of rock is labeled as crap most of the gaming community.
It'll be the same way when Snoop Dogg dlc is released and is nothing that should be taken too seriously.
Miles @ Mar 30th 2009 4:55PM
Catfish's post should be put at the top of every single RB2 music post.
lasersanchez @ Mar 30th 2009 5:50PM
Toby Keith was arguably a failed country musician, then after 9/11 he made some songs about kicking bin Laden's ass that were pretty huge. Some would also argue that he profited from the tragedy (he has made jokes about this himself) and would be unknown if it weren't for him wanting to stick a boot up al qaeda's ass. I'm not qualified to make any of these arguments since I don't listen to country (not because I hate it, I just don't) and don't care who's ruining it.
Hating a genre of music is a lot like hating a console you don't own, you're only doing it because you have to convince yourself that the money/time you spent was a worthy investment and apparently the only way to do that is to ridicule everything else you could have spent your time/money on. Also the people associated with it happen to be rednecks and/or have southern accents which may be annoying to some.
John @ Mar 31st 2009 4:45AM
Toby kieth had quite a few hits before 9/11 dude, if you admitedly dont' know anything about a genre, you probably shouldn't offer analysis.
it's be like me trying to rate punk just because I happen to have heard of the pogues
Walan @ Mar 30th 2009 12:55PM
I forget, is it still cool to hate country music? I wouldn't want to be thought of as lowly in the eyes of the Joystiq commenting community. Out of these songs, I'd say I'll be picking up 'Beer For My Horses' because Willie Nelson's in it. And maybe 'How Do You Like Me Now' because I do a great Toby impression when I'm singing it.
I went through a period where I thought that everything this guy did sucked, but if he's willing to let himself be made fun of on the Colbert Report and the last Comedy Central Roast, then he's alright with me.
Ed CHUPACABRAS @ Mar 30th 2009 12:59PM
Man I could care less about who he is or what he stands for... those tracks are great. Everybody in a party will have a blast playing drunk, that's what RB is all about.
# Beer for My Horses" (160 / $2) - from the pack, that's the one I least like.
# "I Love This Bar" (160 / $2) - I love this bar... it's my kind of place... just getting on the dance floor puts a big smile on my face!
# "She's a Hottie" (160 / $2) - actually this one I don't know
# "Should've Been a Cowboy" (160 / $2) - great one. Upbeat and easy to sing.
# "Who's Your Daddy?" (160 / $2) - the funniest one. I predict the ladies are gonna dance all hotty with this one.
# "How Do You Like Me Now" (160 / $2) - as a song, this is the best one.
I miss "As good as I once was", that would be incing on the cake.
Levi (God Hand Defense Force) @ Mar 30th 2009 1:06PM
I don't care for Toby Keith very much, but Beer For My Horses is great mainly because of Willie and that it is a rockin' track. Does anyone know if the DLC is a cover or the original track?
ctwall @ Mar 30th 2009 6:34PM
I'm confused.. Is the Sponge Bob Pack or the Toby Keith Pack the April Fools Joke..
VaultICEE @ Mar 30th 2009 1:58PM
Both!! TWO FOR THE PRICE OF ONE!
Happy April Fool's!
todd @ Mar 30th 2009 1:45PM
I'm still waiting for Janes.
Lootskin @ Mar 30th 2009 1:52PM
Finally some REAL god damn music. I'm getting tired on emo music.
