Australian trade magazine Smarthouse reports that it's received word regarding a "global announcement" from Sony on Tuesday, possibly concerning the PS3. Kotaku states that it has also received word -- apparently from Sony itself -- that a big announcement is imminent, but the site speculates that it could be for a PS2 price drop -- which we received evidence of this evening.
There's no more information to go on, at this stage, so the big reveal could be anything. A PS3 price cut has been on the cards for some time, but each Sony Computer Entertainment region sets its own price independently, and we've never seen a simultaneous global price drop happen before.
If there truly is a global announcement, it could be regarding almost anything, like a God of War III release date. That would be "global," right?

That would be nice. I hate that I can't transfer my data from my iPod Touch to my PS3. Annoying.

My money says mostly about the ps2, and the future support pledge of sony for it's users.
Maybe whoring out the 2.7 (with a live for update now speech) for the PS3 with a teaser for the PSP2 and new stream line multi hardware support, etc. If we get a PS3 price cut I expect 50.00 off the price which really is kind of cheap for what it offers. Problem is Sony hasn't figured out not everyone wants one for a blu-ray player (I understand it's kind of required), some people just want a game console and think I don;t want all that. "I love my blu-ray tho, and understand it's required.. Just a thought process"
Then again they could just step up and say...
PS2 99.00.
PS3, 2.7, live now.
PS3, Firefox, Download now = Epic.

I think I know what it is. Why particularly Australia on Tuesday? Because in UK or US, Tuesday afternoon is April 1st, April's Fool. So what do you guys think?

To all those hoping for the announcement of a price cut with this you are in for a let down.
The fact that it's a global announcement rules out the price cuts from the beginning as it was previously mentioned that each region controls their pricing structure.
No price cut.
Anything to do with money isn't happening tomorrow
It's more than likely the firmware announcement that we've been waiting for. Nothing else would warrant anything like this just after GDC and before E3.

I know many people that were going to buy a ps3, yet since they have dropped ps2 support they have decided to wait or try to find one on e-bay that supports ps2.
I hope they drop the price on ps2, and announce that ps2 backward compatibility support is coming to the ps3.
