I have absolutely no idea what cloud computing entails, and could only imagine that games would have clouds in them that were actually mathematical equations or code or something.

Then you, my friend, have successfully thus far avoided the shenanigans of the IT industry;

The linked WSJ article is a comical read. Debate rages on as to what cloud computing specifically is defined as :P

In my opinion, the Cloud is like Sun Microsystem's age old motto The Network is the Computer.

Wayne, if you honestly don't know what cloud computer is, I'll try to fill you in a bit. Currently, there are lots of devices within your household that have some processing power capaibiltiies. Many of whom are not used 100% of the time. A good example would be the small microprocessor located within your Microwave Oven.

Right now, your Microwave is probably sitting upstiars unused. Wouldn't it be neat though if your Microwave oven's processor during its downtime could be doing small mathematical calculations to help cure cancer?

What about your brother/roommate's unused pc he left on while he went to work? Wouldn't it be great if the processing power in his computer that's currently not being used could somehow be funneled to your pc your using in your room so its nearly twice as fast? Why not also funnel the power of your xbox 360, ps3 and wii that sits unsed to your pc?

As the number of electronic devices in the average household increases, so does the potential for making your own super-computer with unused processing power from various devices. Even if you dont need all the processing power, you could donate it to a good cause like cancer research ala Folding @ Home on the PS3.

In theory, if your next pc as twice as powerful as your current pc, if you could get both computers to work together, your new combined-pc would be three times as powerful as your current one alone.

Not "cloud" computing. It is Cloud computing, as in a PS3 FF7 remake or a FF7 sequel FF7: Cloud's Return! It is trademarked because it is a sony exclusive.
no? whatever, a fanboy can dream...

If you're going to say that Cloud is a reference to a game, I think it would be less of a stretch to say it's a PS3 remake of.. um.. Cloud, the first game made by thatgamecompany. It was originally said it couldn't be done for the PS3, but they're contractually obligated to make one more game for the PS3. It's possible, but I'd prefer an original game, though Cloud IS amazing.

I hope they use it wisely, if they ever use it. Much of the thing people trademark, never sees the light of day.

What I would wish for:
- Stream PS1 and/or PS2 games directly using Cloud
- Keep profile data on a server, so you could get your game saves from every PS3 you use.
- Live streaming of events like E3 and such.

But who knows? Maybe this is just a panic move, right after OnLive: "holy frick! we need to trademark something now!"

Pretty much Remote Play; the PS3 is the server and the PSP is the client.

Pixel Junk Monsters and Lair support already support it. Play your PS3 via the internet, except "PS Cloud" will play servers owned by Sony rather then your PS3 at home. If you've tried Remote Play you know there is lag, I guess by Sony controlling the service and the servers they will have better control of latency.

It's something good for the future, certainly, but latency prevents it from being much good in the here and now, except for smaller documents (like smaller pics and/or text documents)

Upgrade the PSP's firmware or have the PSP2 be able to view the trophies you'd gained on the PS3, also access your friend's list and be able to chat with them on the PSP, also be able to gain trophies in future PSP/PSP2 games.

I'm sure they're thinking "Well, there's absolutely no way we're even going to try with current technology, but we're going to reserve the name so it's available if and when we want it".
