He looks like a giant douche, I'm sure he's a lovely person though.

Thankfully his driving is a million times better than his dress sense! He's got some pretty awesome videos on Youtube - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rs-jAImScms&fmt=18 - (I'd skip the first minute of BS).
Dirt 2 is looking good, and I think this guy is a suitable replacement.
RIP Colin. :(

Actually, he's one of the nicest guys in the skateboarding/action sports industry, and that says a lot. I've talked to him a few times. I'm amazed that he has become such an amazing driver so quickly.

Hope there will be a GRID 2 as well...

Taking this series further away from true rallying and into X-Games American nonsense is going to make it even more difficult for Codemasters to compete with the likes of Motorstorm and its own FUEL.
I wish someone would just release a PROPER rally game based on WRC and do a good job of it.

Ken Block races in Rally America, which is essentially the same formula as WRC (well, except Rally America isn't banning turbochargers). So it's quite possible this won't be the "x-games nonsense" you say it will.

Wait, how are either of those games 'true rallying'? They both take place in EXTREME stages with EXTREEEME weather conditions, so that you can take your driving to the EXTREEEEEEEEEEEME.
This is just following that same philosophy, really. I loved Dirt, but more of the same would feel kind of stale - so at least they're branching out. Let's just hope they don't force the player to go through too many XTREME GAMES CHALLENGES DRINK GATORADE XTREME, etc.

The best rally game ever made was Rallisport Challenge 2. And yes, it's not real rallying, it's just incredibly fun.

@LS2LS7:
According to the (small) amount of press I've seen about DiRT 2, the devs are certainly marketing it at the "X-Games" crowd. There's an interview out there somewhere and this:
See: http://www.gametrailers.com/player/47246.html
Nothing wrong with X-Games IMO, but the "EXTREEEEEEM!!!!" criticism certainly applies.

They should just call it XTReMe DiRT and have done with it.
The first DiRT and the CMR games that preceded it were excellent, but this "extreme sports" nonsense isn't what fans of the series want, or so I suspect.

Loved the Colin McRae games for years, and DiRT was pretty much the peak of the series imo. Brilliant game & a brilliant driver.
Hopefully 2's even better, and this guy doesn't turn out to be a total douche.

I'm even more curious as to what they can do visually on the Virtual Boy and ColecoVision. I think I know which console will sell the title better... anagram is VB.

Ken Block is ok. Travis Pastrana or Tanner Foust are way better than this fool.

Well, there goes DIRT as an actual *real* rally game. Apparently everything nowadays has to be "XTREME." And now we have a smarmy, annoying jackass as the face of that franchise, so class has gone out the window, too.
Thanks, Codemasters!

I don't understand how Ken Block is a "suitable" replacement for Colin McRae?! Ken Block is a bum compared to McRae. If you want someone to take over the franchise TAKE SOMEONE FROM THE WRC. How about Makinen, Loeb, Gronholm, Solberg etc; etc; you know actual WRC Champions. As good as the rallying is in the United States, it pales in comparison to the WRC. It has become quite boring (should have just renamed it to "The LOEB show"), but you can't beat how much effort goes into preparing and racing car in previous years, not to mention the shear talent of the drivers. You also can't beat the number of completely varied climates they race in , from the sands of Abu Dhabi, to the snow entrenched roads of Finland.
Besides, i think there are a number of drivers in Rally America that have far more talent than Block has, they just don't have the insane amount of resources he does to prepare a phenomenal car. He would stand 0 chance in the WRC. 0.

WRC is all but cancelled. They are banning turbochargers next year, gone to nearly spec cars. I cannot comprehend how it would be worth paying money for a WRC driver.
To be honest, Block probably did it for free in exchange for plenty of DC Shoes ads in the game.

WRC is not canceled. It's just going through a massive rules/specs change to try and make the series more competitive given Citroen and Loeb are destroying everyone. A similar thing happened to F1 this year ( though not as drastic). If you make the cars cheaper, you can get more entries into the series and make it far more competitive. As far as why it would be worth paying for a WRC driver. I'll tell you why.
Because they are the best. They are the absolute best Rally has to offer, anywhere. Especially those few I listed above. Colin McRae was one of the best, hence why the game was named after him. The man was an icon. If you want someone to fill in, you take someone of similiar talent, not reach down into the lower rungs.

I, too, hope a proper rally sim is produced for the new generation game systems, but I do think there's room for a series like DiRT in the motorsport gaming world. I do not think, however, that it should feature Colin McRae's name. DiRT is most certainly not Colin McRae Rally!

You say "making it more competitive". I say "Subaru was the heart of rallying and the new rules forced them out". WRC is not healthy. Not in the least.
Changing the rules isn't going to change the fact that Loeb outclasses the rest of the drivers.
Even if WRC drivers are the best at driving rally cars, in the case of a video game, their responsibilities don't involve any actual driving. Does attaching McRae's name to a game increase sales enough to pay for the cost of the endorsement? It's unclear that is the case. In the US, they didn't even use McRae's name and in Europe they removed it after he died.

Why did they need to have a new face behind this one? Would the McRae family not let them dedicate this game to Colin? Unless that is the case, it seems kind of disrespectful to go out and hire some new guy the game after Colin died(rally game GRID doesn't count).

Wow, is this serious? Colin McRae must be rolling in his grave! What a sell-out...
All I really want to see is a good championship based rally game. I know we won't be getting a WRC game on the xbox for some time due to rights etc, but why can't codemasters come out with a similar format.
This is disgraceful from Codemasters.

I prefer 'real' WRC spec rallying to that X Games dribble stuff. I know Travis Pastrana, Ken Block, etc have big fan bases at the moment... but hopefully they don't make the X Games fans the only market for this. Leave something in it to appeal to those of us who still love Rally the way it's always been ;)
