Does high number of page hits really affect Joystiq? Serious question. I thought websites like this gained money from ads or something, right?

Given that a 360 can be purchased for only a bit more than a PS2 here they have every right to shrug it off.

Lee

By that logic it's only another $50 for a Wii so why get a 360?

You need to think "big picture" and "global" as opposed to just thinking of North America. Besides, $100 is nothing to scoff at and you have a larger catalogue of cheap games on the PS2 when compared to the 360/PS3/Wii.

THINK people. Why MS even felt the need to comment on a PS2 price drop is beyond me. They dropped the original X-Box like a bad habit and I'm glad Sony is still supporting the PS2.

I don't think 360s need any help in that department.

I think the quote read "nearly" 100 percent. He also said past equivalents were FF7 for PSX and FF10 for PS2...which didn't push their consoles nearly 100 percent being so early in their console's lifecycles.

Well said Serp and it's exactly what I was coming here to mention. For the poorer countries the PS2 will be a great platform to get affordable games in peoples homes. To think that you can get a PS2 for $100 is a pretty cool thing in itself. I might pick one up for the kids bedroom which currently houses our now defunct HD-DVD player which functions as a DVD player. We'll move the HD-DVD back into our bedroom (Planet Earth FTW) and drop a PS2 in there. If the darn Wii had DVD Playback we would have left it in there full time.

360 is the best current option for gaming and MS knows that. Actually, pretty everyone this side of the Wii knows it, or else PS3 would sell much better.

It's actually said to see Sony dropping from #1 in the last generation to #3 (a.k.a last) in the current one in sales. Even sadder is seeing how some still thinks the PS3 is not a complete disaster from Sony's part.

Think about it, I mean, just give it a quick thought: when you are the leading platform for 7 years, selling 4 times the competition combined, you expect your new platform to perform better than last place comercially.

Actually, for Sony, being the most sold console in the current gen would be bad if the gap to the competition was closing, seeing how last generation was such an easy win and money was aplenty. But to actually sell less than both your competitors, after such a huge worldwide phenomenon that was the PS2, that is a comercial tragedy in anyone's eyes. I simply can not understand how some people still think that Sony is not that desperate. True.

I though that you would speak of why your console was better then the ps3 but instead you just talked about sales. Since when did sales mean better product. But to let you know something last gen Sony didn't crush there opponents until they dropped the price to $200. And by your logic the 360 should be failing right now as well. Since they have not taken over the market like Sony did when they hit the magic price point first.

and what was the point of saying true at the end.

"Why wouldn't it be awesome?"

Cause that's pretty sad, a nearly 10 year old console outselling a far superior less than 3 year old one.

Pretty amazing that it still gets so much news coverage, and still sells so well, one hell of a system.
Interesting point about Microsoft having no other horse to back but their next-gen one (which is starting to already show its age), Ninty doesn't either (Gamecube still sell, anywhere?), Sony would indeed be completely insane to stop making the PS2.

Why can't microsoft just stop disregarding sony. It's just immature. This is the reason why I won't buy their product.
