Did they release the bug fix and Rank update patch yet?
Because this is just more pointless maps for me if not.

lvl 1? Dude you must be getting 1 kill every match. It takes about 7-8 kills to rank up the first couple of times. Talk about exaggerating...
The new rank system is great. The game (although still a little too slow) is really great now. If they were to speed it up a bit then it would be almost like Gears 1 action.

In a World, are you playing public or private matches? You only get exp in public matches.
If you were playing public I'm not sure what you were doing wrong unless most of your 9 kills were just executing someone that was already down (you only get 10pts for that as opposed to 175pts for a "real" kill). The exp required for lvl2 is only 1000, and 9 kills should be worth roughly 1600pts alone not to mention the extra points you get for damaging players that someone else killed.
Wins/losses don't matter for experience, only rank (which is hidden).

if i didn't have gears 2 how would i know how badly it sucks at multiplayer after the 3rd title update? if you REEEEEALLY need proof, which you do, cause you're lame,, why can't you roadie run to melee anymore!? roadie run, STAND UP OPEN TO ATTACK FOR FREAKIN A MILLION SECONDS, then melee. that's how it is now. i'm not playing it till that gets fixed.

I don't need to know whether or not you have Gears 2 , Bucko, but what you offered was hardly proof. People have been bitching about those same issues since day one. If you read gaming forums, you've read these same rants ad infinitum.

you guys understand you're wrong, yes? i'm not the only person that thinks the game is broken NOTE: this was the 3rd title update. 3 updates within a year of release, 3 MAJOR updates. that means it IS broken and there are more than just me and my buddy complaining.
and argghhhh it was 'easy' to melee cause THAT'S REAL. go outside, try to run around with a gun and then when you meet up with a friend try to melee right out of running. you know what, YOU CAN DO IT!!! now, as for being able to do it in gears, that's another story. my friends and i have reverted to playing gears 1, and i for one am not going to buy 10 dollar map packs for a broken game. get on board ladies, this is going to be a looooooooong ride.

"The game is supposed to be a tactical shooter, you know where strategizing with teammates and taking cover is important. It's not supposed to be about rushing dudes so you can punch/shotgun them."
The funny thing is that the "fix" actually makes the game LESS tactical, not more tactical because it completely eliminates flanking. Epic envisions the game as one where you each sit behind cover with the lancer/hammerburst and have a 10-minute stand-off shooting at each other. If it wouldn't make everyone quit the game the second they did it, they would just remove the shotgun entirely. But that stand around behind cover "tactical" shooter will never work in Gears because players have far too much health.
The game as it was after TU2 (and definitely before TU2) was plenty tactical. Players were rewarded for flanking and coming up beside people who were caught off-guard and saw you at the last second with a quick-kill method, as they should be rewarded for when sneaking up on someone who doesn't see you. Now, if you you get the drop on someone you're actually punished because the person you snuck up on can shoot/punch and you cannot. You're punished for playing tactically, and the moron that was just standing there not checking his flank is rewarded.
People that had problem with rushers before (note that I was NOT someone that melee rushed, but I got a lot of kills killing melee rushers) are both stubborn and flat out bad at the game. It's not like people could rush straight at you like they could when Gears 1 was first released. A HB drops them in 5 shots (plenty of time) and a lancer stops them cold with stopping power. If you have your shotty out it's even easier to 1-shot gib them, it's just that people always shot over the rusher's heads. It was hilarious to me the number of times I could watch people shoot their shotgun too high at a rusher, get killed and then bitch about the rusher, and then shoot high again the next time someone rushed them. FOR THE LOVE OF ALL THAT IS HOLY JUST POINT YOUR GUN DOWN FURTHER. It is so, so easy to 1-shot gib a rusher, you just have to aim a little lower than you were used to from Gears 1. It works every time. But rather than aim lower, people would rather bitch about a made-up issue that had more to do with their incompetency and ruin the game.
The funniest thing about the new system is when you come up behind someone that's walking, but not roading running around. You literally can't do anything to kill them because if you run up on them from behind or from the side you're frozen, and they walk away as you come out of the roadie run not being able to do anything. And let's not even get into how remarkably annoying it is to not be able to fast-execute a downed opponent if you roadie run up to them.
I don't mind them removing the two-piece from Gears 2, it shouldn't be there. But they should've removed it using the same method they used in Gears 1 where if you punch with the shotgun your next shotgun shot shoots nerf bullets. Or hell, even put a delay into the shotgun after melee'ing with it, but this whole delay out of the roadie run thing is ridiculous. It doesn't really solve the problem that was there (two-piecing is still too common) and it affects a half-dozen other legitimate tactics rather than the real issue at hand.

Also WRE, you called out Heim for not playing the game while at the same time making a statement about the game that is completely untrue. The delay in melee after the roadie run was not added to the game months ago and been complained about on forums for months, it was just added a week ago.
Now maybe someone should question if you've ever been to a gaming forum :P

Also, I will clarify that I'm a huge Gears (1 and 2) fan, and Gears 2 is one of my favorite games of this gen, so it's not like I'm just a hate or something. I just think they would've been MUCH better off killing the two-piece by putting a shooting delay in after melee'ing with the shotty rather than adding the roadie run delays (and that goes for the shooting delay out of the roadie run as well as the melee'ing one).

U know i agree here. It seems that the bad lag when u werent host has been greatly decreased. My kill ratio has moved up(not that i really care) and its a much more enjoyable experience. Although i cant for the life of me understand the ranking system. Who cares about how much sum1 plays? Why not make it skill based. Thats just my 2 cents.

It was skill based. People complained because they didn't understand it then they changed it to what it is now. Even though i only made it to 2 bars I prefer the old ranking system over the Xp one.

The *ranking* system is unchanged. It still uses TrueSkill to make matches and all that jazz. The experience system just track how much you play (or experience) you have. It's really only there to make you feel good since TrueSkill moves in such tiny increments.

the ranking system itself is hidden, so there should be less quitters.. they'll just wait til they're beaten instead.... It's still trueskill, also now it's supposed to be that the system sets up the most competitive matches posible - instead of what seemed to be choosing who won - from the few matches I had, my team of 1's & 2's would be going against teams with 4's in.. which just didn't work as well as the Halo 3 system

Me too. Thats the major problem with DLC and multiplayer, every1 in game has to have it to play it. Same with all other games like Rockband where u invest in alot of songs and all 4 players have to have them. Im pretty much a multiplayer player only, so for me ill pass on this one.

Maybe it's different in the UK, but the third update has completely fixed Gears 2 for me. No more stupid glitches, or weird fluctuations in weapon power. The experience penalty seems to have deterred most people from quitting, and the lag...well, it's still there occasionally, but no worse than a vast majority of multiplayer games.
I've now found than people (again, in the UK) who complain about Gears multiplayer are just crap at the game. There aren't any more excuses.

I've always loved Gears and actually never experienced connection issues, even before the first update I got into games quickly when the matchmaking was the main issue being complained about.

I love Gears as well, but you would probably beat me 'cos I don't have much time to play. But there was no need to get aggressive, it was just a misunderstanding of phrase :(

I haven't played this game properly at all since it first came out. I loved GOW1 and rarely had connection issues but in Gears 2, I couldn't count the amount of times I started the match without a weapon and was unable to rectify that until it decided it wanted to.
I'm from the UK and the lag in this game and the general slowness of the characters in comparison to the last game ruined it and I haven't touched it since probably the the last update in which again, I found no general difference in lag and still found myself getting pwned with no weapon or killed relatively easy when my bullets seemed to bounce off my opponents.
The babel guy who talks about UK people and complaining about lag seems to me to be very ignorant, because this game has been a terrible game to play for English people without phenomenal connections since its arrived. I have an AOL Broadband connection which isn't fantastic, but always allowed me to have playable matches on GOW1, host okay and not actually have much lag - this game though totally changed that and like I've said, starting without a weapon? Seriously? OK.
Anyway, I'm tempted to shove the game back in and give Gears 2 a shot because if it has improved then I'd really like to get back into a franchise that I was such a big fan of. The region preferencing if it works like I hope won't throw me into games with Americans I cannot connect to because as we all know, connecting to Americans if your English even on GOW1 sometimes red bar/orange barred you (if your connection wasn't hella fast) and it wasn't always playable then - so hopefully this works out.
Still not buying any of the maps though, I think a company that releases such a stupid game for such a high price to people who can't play online due to errors they've made have a nerve charging me for more maps when with the amount of time my game has been gathering dust due to their releasing of a pourly finished product is incredibly stupid.

They're the same as gears1"
What games are you playing? Even Epic has acknowledged that the characters move slower in Gears 2 than Gears 1, and that it was intentional.
Maybe you're just literally thinking of "speed" in the roadie run or something. I guess maybe "reaction time" of the characters movements would be a better term than "speed", but you get the point.

Funny they're releasing new maps without even fixing their broken game..
Save your money on this one folks, epic doesn't deserve another dollar from any of us..
They don't care about fixing the game, but only sucking as much money as they can out of us in the few months before everyone realizes the game is simply broken.
Joe graf couldn't code a multiplayer game to save his life and should lose his job over this multiplayer fiasco
Think TU3 fixed the game ? think again..
- Host advantage worse than ever.
- Chainsaw "fix" only fixed it for the non host team.. so now host
team has a godly shotgun and an unstoppable saw.
- Lose experience if the bots quit
- Lose all achievements if you update/remove cache
- transfer your account to a new Xbox - Rank is restored to 1
- Buggy movements if you pick up grenade
- invisible man glitch is back
- spawning without weapons is worse than ever
- Lagswitching STILL prevalent ( switchers brag that you're only
banned for an hour or so )
- People who aren't cheating getting host banned.
- Lag worse than ever for anyone outside US ( IE region preference
sucks )
- once bots enter the game it lags worse than ever, and if they leave
YOU lose experience
- Quit a private match? loose EXP
- Skorge/kantus still smoke glitched
- Double weapon pick up bug ( ie team picks up boomshot, gets 6
shells now lol )
- match making times longer
- did I mention LAG ?
- more lag

I agree about region preference. I live in the US but i keep getting matched with overseas in about 90% of my games. That or there is a very large hidden group of non english or european speakers where i live. Although you cant tell that from going outside. Buutt it seems alot less laggy. And i have yet to see a lag switcher, although iam not high ranked.

Pretty much sums it up. After TU2, the online experience of the game was a lot better. But they've done a u-turn and gone backwards with TU3.
Let's face it people. GoW2 is finished. FINISHED. 3 Title updates and they still can't get it right. The game will never be fixed properly. EVER.
Let's hope they learn from the mistakes they made in GoW2 multiplayer and make an enojoyable online experience, lag and glitch free in GoW3. It's our only hope really.

Half the things you just stated are exactly why I haven't played the game - if none of them haven't been fixed then I just don't see the fucking point.
This game is a classic EPIC FAIL and I can't believe so many people like it. It's put me off the series so much I'm not even sure how much I'll be interested when three rolls around in a few years time.
