Rumor: GameFly shows Mad Dog McCree setting sights on Wii
If it weren't the day before April Fool's day, then we'd be willing to bet that a rumor regarding 19 year-old laserdisc game Mad Dog McCree coming to the Nintendo Wii is nothing short of malarkey. As it stands, however, the listing at GameFly is pretty compelling evidence.
We'll concede that the game would most certainly have a place on the Wii, with the Wiimote's IR sensor performing just as well, if not better, than a DVD remote. But, it's a 19 year old game. And not even a good game, at that. Why would they port it to Wii? Oh, right ...
We've put word in to Majesco (the publisher listed at GameFly) concerning the game and will be sure to update as soon as we receive a response.

gamefly always fucks up and tells when games r coming out.
Mr Khan @ Mar 31st 2009 6:22PM
Maybe we can have some of the more infamous FMV games of the past ported up, like Night Trap or Plumber's Don't Wear Ties
Though seriously, i'm fascinated to see what direction they take with this. More like Target Terror or more like Broken Sword?

So if the Wii audience is now caught up to Laser Disc technology in games can we expect challenging gameplay next or is it time for the Wii 32x addon?
Moptimus Slime (Leader of the Taylor Swift Defense Force, Gobot in disguise) @ Mar 31st 2009 7:23PM
I don't think the knuckledraggers who make up 100% of the Wiis audience (which reminds me, are you having trouble finding one or are you just hiding the truth from us?) are up for anything more than WAGGLE LIKE A RETARD TO WIN!!!!!!
In A World (XBL) @ Mar 31st 2009 9:28PM
No add-ons please, but I wouldn't mind Knuckles Chaotix on Virtual Console or, better yet, a Wii MotionPlus-enabled "Golf Magazine: 36 Great Holes Starring Fred Couples". Love that game!

"Nice shootin, try another one." I remember playing this and the sequel on the Sega CD.
MaxShrek @ Mar 31st 2009 6:34PM
But is sucked way back when.

That was a good man you shot!
Diskoboy7 @ Mar 31st 2009 6:39PM
Seriously, why has no one released an old laserdisc compilation?
I'd gladly buy a disc with Cliff Hanger, Dragons Lair 1 & 2, Space Ace, Bega's Battle, Cube Quest, MACH 3, Us Vs. Them, Star Rider, Cobra Command, Firefox, and Thayers Quest, Astron Belt, InterStellar, and Time Traveler.
All those games could probably fit on 2 blu-ray's, even if they're upscaled to 1080p.
The Baron @ Mar 31st 2009 7:38PM
I think you'd have trouble upscaling them to anything higher than youtube.
DigTheDoug @ Mar 31st 2009 11:55PM
The Dragon's Lair are available on Blu-Ray actually and restored from their original film prints. They look great, the gameplay...well it hasn' changed.

Those LDs were 560×480 progressive-scan, so an uprez wouldn't be a problem...
But the transport mechanism on the PS3 isn't as responsive as on the old LDs, so the game would have to load the video branches into memory so there wouldn't be unplayable lag.
jinn35 @ Mar 31st 2009 7:22PM
How do you even play games with a tv remote?
Beanie @ Mar 31st 2009 7:29PM
OMG. I played this game so much, FMV was the bomb back then, right around when everyone was getting CD-ROM drives. But it was on the PC when I was playing it, not on Laserdisc. I also played it in the arcade also, so, that was probably the laserdisc version.
xgarryx @ Mar 31st 2009 7:42PM
OMG i had this on 3DO,
does anyone remember digital pictures?
Garu @ Mar 31st 2009 7:59PM
On a somewhat similar note David... when I read last week about arcade games showing up on the Wii, I started thinking of arcade shooters I'd love to see that would be adjusted to work with the Wiimote... everything from Crossbow ("You will die!") to the Star Trek Voyager game, -although I'm sure we won't see any arcade games with licensed characters (Popeye? X-Men? Indiana Jones? Star Wars?)
Still, I'd buy Crossbow!
lasersanchez @ Mar 31st 2009 8:15PM
We do need more ironic games on the Wii marketplace.
refinedsugar @ Mar 31st 2009 8:55PM
They really hit their stride in Mad Dog II: The Lost Gold!

"Wiimote's IR sensor performing just as well, if not better, than a DVD remote."
hehe
Thanks for the giggles Joystiq

I used to love FMV games. So cheesy, so hilarious. Like bad movies, but interactive.
Remember in "Night Trap" where they all start singing the theme song to the game they're in? Good times.
Fuze9 @ Mar 31st 2009 11:02PM
"not even a good game, at that"?!
Oh, no. I disagree. This ranks as second only to Oregon Trail as the defining game of my childhood. I can only hope this rumor's true.
malisp @ Mar 31st 2009 11:11PM
These were awesome in the arcade! I remember the duels where you had to keep the gun in the holster until you were allowed to draw; nice to know that could be replicated with the Wiimote. If this is for real, I'll be buying them and reveling in the nostalgic gold.
samfish @ Apr 1st 2009 12:51AM
This is just getting insulting now...
Still, it can't possibly be any worse than Konami's Target: Terror port.
...can it?
Chief Oddball @ Apr 1st 2009 1:11AM
I can't believe I'm seeing this. I played Mad Dog McCree on my PC and beat it in an hour. Never touched it again. I think I was...what, 13 years old at the time?
Next up: Lethal Enforcers!
dbellinger @ Apr 1st 2009 8:30AM
insta buy if this is true. loved that game on SegaCD.
