High-profile publishers tend to kick off massive marketing campaigns for their titles years before said titles hit store shelves (did you guys see that trailer for Halo 6 yet?), but preemptive advertising is rarely the strong suit of independent publishers. Speaking at GDC, Sony development relations manager Chris Eden warned self-publishers of downloadable titles about the perils of poor marketing, saying promotion-shy developers often send their brainchildren "out to die lonely and unloved."
Eden suggested that PSN developers take advantage of the official PlayStation Blog and Playstation.com to spread the word about their projects. Of course, success in this venture would require having a title worth talking about, and not a Q*Bert clone with updated visuals and a new protagonist who possesses overwhelming levels of 'tude.

For the most part, Sony has been great with marketing, it is on the Advertising department that they have been messing up.

How about you stay up to date on Joystiq articles and how Sony has started a "Pub Fund" for smaller developers to receive funding from Sony to help them publish games while allowing the developers to still collect royalties.

They are $ 2'000 now.
Not only that, but remember that with the Pub Fund, they pretty much are guaranteed to at least come even.

I have to agree with this one, I have purchased most of my titles PSN games from discussions on that blog. Warhawk, HD Street Fighter 2, and Noby Noby Boy most recently.
When a new game hits the store for $9.99 with no word of mouth and no demo, I forget about them and never look back.

I don't think the advertising department is pricing the console or sending out press releases to hype the announcement of a PS2 price drop.

Obviously I am late to the party, but yes.... DEMOS ARE YOUR BEST SHOT.
People lie. I prefer to play and decide for myself if its what I would drop $9.99 for.
