Volition prepping new Saints Row 2 DLC for April 16
New content is set to pull up alongside Saints Row 2, flashing gang signs and a new set of platinum rims. Developer Volition revealed that it is working on three new downloadable packs for the game, with the first, Ultor Exposed, set to arrive April 16 on both the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 for 800 Microsoft Points or $10.
Players expecting something comparable to last month's Lost and the Damned, however, will need to seek the comfort of fellow gangstas after learning that this initial pack adds just three new missions, a competitive co-op "metagame" and porn star Tera Patrick as a homie to watch your back. Some new vehicles, weapons and maps are also promised. Still, compared to last month's GTA IV update, this downloadable comes off as lacking, but at just a tenner at least you won't have to sell your real gold grills to play.

That picture does not make me want to get this game.
Kizzle @ Mar 31st 2009 10:03AM
People dismissing this game because of the "gangsta-ness" are missing out. I'll take SR2 over GTA4 easily. Most of it seems very tongue-in-cheek anyway. Come on, they put Gary Busey in their ads for christsake.
Mr. Joe @ Mar 31st 2009 10:26AM
don't let others fool you. this game is horrible. it might've been worthy on the ps2, but compared to other sandbox games on current gen consoles, this is crap. the physics engine is just horrible, meaning cars turn on a dime no matter what you're driving. the missions and shoot outs are boring too. the only thing this game has going for it is the character creation. you can make it look just like you. after that, it sucks.
and better than gta4? no. it might be better than san andreas, but wait.. no. it's not even better than san andreas. it's a bad game.
Snowblind @ Mar 31st 2009 10:59AM
I have to massively disagree. It's no GTA IV, but it's not trying to be. It's a similar style of game but in a completely different style. I enjoyed the more over the top physics, cars are easy to drive but still feel good, things explode big and getting hit by a car knocks you 50 feet into the air.
It's amusing, fun to play and just a good laugh.
If you go into it taking it too seriously, then you're playing the wrong game, but I personally put more time into it than I did with GTA IV and had a lot more fun with it, especially on co-op.
Lord Negatron @ Mar 31st 2009 11:05AM
The game is mediocre at best which includes simple minded, "tongue in cheek" ha ha humor, if only it were funny. Joe you were right...
Don't be a Menace to Society while Drinking your Juice in the Hood is funny.
Jamie Kennedy's: Malibu's Most Wanted is funny.
The Dark Wayne @ Mar 31st 2009 11:11AM
I agree with snowblind, I vastly preferred Saints Row 2 over GTA IV. GTA IV was too realistic, especially with cars, if I had wanted to drive cars that handled like that, I would have just driven my real car
DiL @ Mar 31st 2009 11:13AM
the game is actually very fun. its what gta 4's gameplay shoulda been like. if they combined the storytelling, graphics, and physics of gta 4 with saints row 2's gameplay and fun factor, you would have the perfect game
Professor Lario @ Mar 31st 2009 11:19AM
Playing this game through on co-op was one of the best gaming experiences I had last year. The DLC seems weak, but I may pick up after a price drop.
Vegeta (DAT ASS!!!) @ Mar 31st 2009 11:34AM
"The game is mediocre at best which includes simple minded, "tongue in cheek" ha ha humor, if only it were funny. Joe you were right..."
I pretty much agree with that statement. I'd take GTAIv's satire over Saints Rows humor any day.
"Jamie Kennedy's: Malibu's Most Wanted is funny."
And that's where I stop agreeing with you.
Emperor_Den_Den @ Mar 31st 2009 12:11PM
my only gripe with the game is that it was god awfully hard 2 shake the police it annoyed me @ times because 2 me it just seemed like the difference between the cars was hard and I love that about gta IV because if ur in a sports car ur burnin the police do u know how many times I would brake into the exotic car store 2 burn the police and place the car into my safe house.....DO U
Doug @ Mar 31st 2009 1:25PM
Yes. Lord Negatron. Everyone who loves this game is "simple minded." Intelligent people don't want to have FUN while playing video games--ever. We all know that intelligent people would rather look at video games as work.
You go on thinking you're above it all, and we'll just scurry by past your feet, sire.
Odog4ever @ Mar 31st 2009 1:57PM
I just finished SR2 last night. I'm renting if from Gamefly and now that I know that the developers will be supporting the game with DLC I think I'll use the "keep it" option. I feel like a man without a country since I liked both SR2 and GTA4.
GTA4 had a better story and was more immerse. SR2 had more fun game play. Why can't there be room for both?
Lord Negatron @ Mar 31st 2009 1:59PM
Actually Doug*
I was referring to the developers who wrote the dialogue and overall theme, not the consumers. It might be funny to some, having your characters in your hideout all drinking 40oz.beers wearing custom colored football jerseys that represent your gang. Its 2009, if want to see bullshit i will go "hang outside" where people i have known since childhood, still sell drugs, carry guns etc. and listen to the neighborhood gossip from people that are headed nowhere in life...
How you got that i am calling people who play SR2 simple minded, i don't know? If you have had a great education and have a successful career yet enjoy satire, spoof films and games that doesn't make you "dumb." I just don't like Saints Row, their street humor is out of touch and the gameplay is so-so to me, thats all.
DarkWayne already gave a reply which was short and made perfect sense. Don't need the Negatron thinks hes above and beyond anyone responses, since that is FAR from the case.
Emperor_Den_Den @ Mar 31st 2009 4:10PM
yo negatron you have a vast bunch of gamers that live in different places that enjoy games. Take for instance me where I live (the east side of longbeach) u have a lot of blacc and latino stuff going on 2 me the humor is funny it's not stereo typical it holds a good amount of truth 2 it. U got doods in the hood that actually sing slow songs lmfaoooooooooooooooo
Donny J. @ Mar 31st 2009 5:19PM
watch this video this sums up saints row vs gta nicely http://www.escapistmagazine.com/videos/view/zero-punctuation/312-Saints-Row-2
Brian @ Apr 1st 2009 1:16AM
Saints Row 2 was a great game. I played GTA4 for a few hours, but I haven't touched it since. Sadly, I did not have fun playing GTA4. Saints Row 2 was a blast, more so because it didn't take itself so damn seriously.
Doug @ Apr 1st 2009 1:42AM
Lord Negatron*:
Fair enough, but I honestly felt you were attempting to pigeonhole those of us who found the game fun as "simple-minded." The fact that you weren't give me faith.
I for one found the game neither funny or unfunny: In fact, the "humor" had nothing to do with my enjoyment. The game could have had absolutely no dialogue OR story, and I would have played it just as much. The reason being it is vastly more fun than GTA IV.
Yes, GTA IV was the more polished, realized and immersive title, but after being forced to take my cousin to play darts for the 80th time, it became more work than fun. That's just my two cents.
Gonzo @ Apr 1st 2009 3:13PM
While GTA4 was "crafted" better than SR2 (especially if you never played beyond the story missions of GTA), I have to agree with those who are saying SR2 was more fun.
It just had more fun stuff to do. GTA4 didn't have much going for it beyond the story, while SR2 had not only all the weapons and vehicles you want to use in a GTA style game but it also had all the fun side activities that you keep playing after the story.
The choice is clear, if you're more into story & graphics get GTA4; if you're more into customization & fun, get SR2.
That said, the DLC for both don't look that great but the SR2 DLC is half the price.

how many people still own this game??
all the people I know that bought it traded it back in after they beat it.
I might pick it up if I find it for under $20.
Markez @ Mar 31st 2009 9:59AM
I have it, and was actually playing late last night when they put an update in. I enjoy it quite a bit, and changed my gang outfits last night. Now all the random Saints either in my crib or in my neighborhoods wear ninja outfits.
Unbelievable thing is though, I can't say I'll get any of the DLC as I now of the issue of a backlog of DLC I haven't purchased yet :P Fallout 3 & GTAIV
Chris D.(PSN: Aggie_CEO | XBL:The Aggie CEO | Steam: Aggie_CEO @ Mar 31st 2009 10:08AM
the game looks good I just dont see myself paying more than $25 for it. damn sure know I wont be buying the DLC for it....lol
Professor Lario @ Mar 31st 2009 11:21AM
Pick up a copy for a friend too - this game was meant to be played co-op.
Chris D.(PSN: Aggie_CEO | XBL:The Aggie CEO | Steam: Aggie_CEO @ Mar 31st 2009 2:09PM
like I said the people I know with it traded it in after beating it

That man seems to have a large amount of precious metal in his teeth, I would imagine that makes eating difficult.
Rob @ Mar 31st 2009 9:47AM
Also he seems to be in a great deal of pain, I think he should see a dentist right away and have that stuff removed.
The Dark Wayne @ Mar 31st 2009 11:13AM
haha, that reminds me how in the game with the british character voice if you got drunk your guy would say "*Sniff*, I only hurt people because I hurt so much"
DavidJuaquin @ Mar 31st 2009 9:55AM
Still no trophies???, Guess I still won't be getting it.
.jpg @ Mar 31st 2009 1:30PM
totally with you on this one. come the hell on already volition!
Gonzo @ Apr 1st 2009 3:19PM
If the only thing holding you back from getting this game is trophy support, I feel sorry for you.
Did you have any games before sony decided to copy ms's most useless feature?
LordChimp @ Mar 31st 2009 10:02AM
I will definitely buy this. I have wanted to return back to Stillwater for since I beat the game. Still, I would like a trophy update.
valestis @ Mar 31st 2009 10:08AM
Man, I still haven't picked this game up. :/
DKShadow @ Mar 31st 2009 10:08AM
I'll get this if it turns out that trophies are added as well.
mattpugs @ Mar 31st 2009 10:28AM
Would be nice if they would fix the co-op glitch instead of adding some retarded DLC
ChiTownRuler23 @ Mar 31st 2009 10:30AM
there is no reason SR2 and GTA IV should be compared, because its so obviously clear that GTA IV was the elephant in the room when Volition was thinking of this DLC.
Lord Negatron @ Mar 31st 2009 10:55AM
I live in a Black/ Latino neighborhood. Reason i say this is because of the "street humor" i find truly unfunny. I've played SR1 and have watched someone play SR2. The humor from the Micheal Jackson character taunts to the clothing and dialogue are trash. My opinion, my verdict.
Its just the same as those no name comedians on B.E.T's comedy show(s), making "lame racial" jokes about white people which results me changing the channel. Let me not forget the gameplay etc. is sub par. Like ChiTown said, there is no reason that Saints Row should be be compared to GTA.
The Dark Wayne @ Mar 31st 2009 11:14AM
I liked Saints Row 2's humor because I could get hit by a car and be thrown into the air and live, or dive of a skyscraper and thud into the ground only to get up and run away
ChiTownRuler23 @ Mar 31st 2009 11:19AM
you hit the nail on the head there Lord Negatron, i also live in a community were there is more gang violence then cops and having been played SR, and listening to the jokes they make in it just made me feel bad that the developers are raised in the same city, the jokes are really tasteless.
Lord Negatron @ Mar 31st 2009 12:01PM
Dark Wayne
You make a good point in terms of fun factor, i just can't get past the lame outfits and dialogue. Just made the game cheap for me, and i "know" is not meant to be taken seriously, so can't really say don't buy it since it is not horrible/ offensive. I just found it to be corny beyond all hell.
If i were to suggest it at all, i would say its good for a rental.
butaneko @ Mar 31st 2009 12:10PM
What jokes are you referring to exactly?
I don't really get how a character doing a Michael Jackson dance move is construed as a joke or as offensive. The clothing choices offend you? Get real.
ChiTownRuler23 @ Mar 31st 2009 12:15PM
Well what i mean is when i first heard of SR coming out and knowing the developers are from Chicago and ex Saints gang members i thought it would take the gang violence seriously and it would have a more serious tone, but it ended up mocking it all.
Lord Negatron @ Mar 31st 2009 12:53PM
@ Butenko
No one( i don't think) is saying its offensive, but it is meant to be an over the top version of gang/ street life. Its just corny period. ChiTown used the word joke, when i'm sure he just meant the overall dialogue.
IMO, good for a rental.
I am sure it has its fun factor as Dark Wayne gave a good quick example.
Doug @ Mar 31st 2009 1:25PM
The boring, filled-with 'mandating' elephant?
Jimmy @ Mar 31st 2009 10:39AM
The only thing I'd want more in Saints Row 2 is trophies, because otherwise the game is perfectly fun.
MikeyQ @ Mar 31st 2009 10:41AM
I absolutely love Saints Row 2, being able to do Co-Op missions is a huge plus for me and its the kind of game I can sink hours into time after time and not get bored.
Don't get me wrong, I'm a fan of GTA4 aswell, but these are very different games and I feel each has its place, just because the GTA franchise pioneered this type of game doesn't mean it should remain the only one.
mattpugs @ Mar 31st 2009 11:07AM
Were you able to beat the game on co-op? There is a mission with the Son of Samdei called "Riot Control" where there is a glitch on co-op and you are unable to complete the mission. Can't figure it out...stupid glitch.
Erroneus @ Mar 31st 2009 10:46AM
Volition gives us some trophies and we'll talk about DLC later on!
Erroneus @ Mar 31st 2009 10:48AM
Volition how about those trophies....
ducttapeBigSexy @ Mar 31st 2009 11:24AM
I seriously can't believe that people are passing on this spectacular game because it doesn't contain trophies. If the only reason you play a game is because it'll increase some number next to your avatar, then why even play the game? If you're concerned there isn't enough to do in the game, trust me, it took me over 60 hours to hit 100%!
Seriously, you people insult Wii owners because they're "ruining the industry," but at least they're playing games for the right reasons!
