Grand Theft Auto habit contributes to partner's murder
It's a known, scientific fact that Grand Theft Auto and other violent video games turn players into killers. But, apparently, its influence is so vile, it can even effect those that have to watch someone play. The Telegraph reports that after retired airport worker Malcom Palmer's partner repeatedly threw him out of the bedroom -- so she could play more Grand Theft Auto -- he stabbed Carol Cannom, the mother of his children, to death.
Since the mainstream media isn't great with specifics when it comes to writing about video games, we don't know which PlayStation she was using, or which GTA she was playing. But it sounds like GTA might not have been the only problem in this relationship. For example: Though the PlayStation takes The Telegraph's headline heat, the story mentions "Palmer had also become convinced that she was having an affair, and went into a violent rage when she told him she wanted him to move out in November last year, threatening that he would never get to see their children again."
... So, yeah. It's either that, or the PlayStation.

the hell does this have to do with GTA? press saw an opportune moment and they capitalized. that dumb-ass is just insecure and mentally fucked.

More like the defense saw something they could use to make it seem like the wife's fault.

Some nut from my town in Alaska got arrested for a murder streak down in Colorado that was totally random. In the paper up here the police mentioned "violent video games" as being a possible culprit. I could play violent video games for months and not feel the urge to go on a murder streak, you have to be deranged to do that!

They've really cracked the case on this one. They've gotta have fuckin' Sherlock Holmes writing for them or something!
michael @ Apr 1st 2009 9:36AM
cue Jack Thompson saying the 63 years old man (I read this artcile on GP and Kotaku) train on GTA and claming anyone playing video game regardless of the age are murderers in 3...2...1
Jtenma @ Apr 1st 2009 9:37AM
I started laughing when I read this BS.
Wow. I wonder though, I'd like to met the person who really believes it is the PlayStation's/GTA's fault.
Grant G @ Apr 1st 2009 9:43AM
Wait....
He killed his girlfriend who was into video games?
What a piece of shit! He killed one of the few!
I hope he gets brutally ass raped in prison.
Temidien @ Apr 1st 2009 10:03AM
I wish my gf would kick me out to play video games. The only games I can get her into (she watches me play a lot but doesn't play much herself) are Final Fantasy and Castle Crashers.
Still though, the whole cheating thing...

"I'm sorry. I think I've killed her." creepiest/craziest part about it to me
Blackbyrd82 @ Apr 1st 2009 10:29AM
Wow...just wow. But wait a second, hasn't the media taught me that it's always the person plays the games that's turned into a murdering automaton? I'm confused.

I hear he really killed her for saying the Playstation's technical capabilities are superior to the 360's, knowing that was pure blasphemy he murdered her in the name of all that is right....and Peter Moore
kbeehaze @ Apr 1st 2009 11:42AM
He killed her cause she got her period and he thought it was the red rings again. 360 sux

The article said they had been together 30 years, since he was 32 and she was 16! Sounds like he had issues already.
MisterSquared @ Apr 1st 2009 12:05PM
The real reason he killed her: she would call him on his cell phone while he was working to see if he wanted to go drinking with her...every five minutes.
Bobulous @ Apr 1st 2009 12:12PM
Yeah, GTA is definitely responsible. Not because he was disturbed or anything. It was the games. God damn you, Nolan Bushnell, you and all your perfidious spawn.

When she kicked him out of the room she shoulda given him a ball of yarn, or a scratching post or something, so then he wouldn't have gotten so bored!

LOL! This is the best April Fools ever. GTA murder wahahahaha
Jake @ Apr 1st 2009 1:18PM
Oh come on it not PlayStation, in fact it is the Xbox360 version of GTA4, that make people like that.
Since the XBox360 GTA4 got the extend version, PS3 GTA4 has already finished the game already, once that make people keep on playing this is when the extension pack release on the XBox360.
It not the PS3 it is the Xbox360
bud_toker_13 @ Apr 1st 2009 1:59PM
ok first the news dont know jack cus i have seen reports on the ps3 and in the vid thy show with the report showed a xbox not a ps2 and gta is on both the ps2 and xbox and ps3 and 360 so was it a ps or a xbox no one will know the news just hears video game and assume its a playstation ans seconed the wife probubly wasent puting out cus she was to bisy playing games to service her man and he wint nutz do to blue balls not gta i have playe every gta ther is and i was playing doom at age 6 and i love the most violent vid games and i have never thoght killing my nabor would be fun and i have never slep with a prostatute then jumped out of the car and beat her down with a base ball bat to get my money back vid games do make violent ppl vilolent parents make violent ppl that just hapen to play vid games and befoe the vid games it was movies but look at the most violent times in history ther were no vid games or movies to influince ppl so find another comen denominator

It sounds like the marriage thing inflamed him but the lack of GTA (coping mechanism?) pushed him over the edge....
I do not really know the story or care but I am not defending or attacking video games every time a story like this comes out.
Josh @ Apr 2nd 2009 11:19AM
I feel sorry for the kids. Really, really sorry.
And I can do nothing but look down upon and frown at the misinformation and false accusations spread by this "newspaper". There always has to be a scapegoat, doesn't there?
