Nintendo Power reveals Silent Hill: Shattered Memories for Wii
We're not exactly sure if titling the "reimagining" of a classic game "Shattered Memories" is going to instill much hope in its fans, but that's what Konami is doing with Silent Hill: Shattered Memories for Wii. The not-a-remake of the first game in the series is revealed in the May 2009 issue of Nintendo Power, which contains a 10-page cover feature on the Climax (Silent Hill: Origins) developed game. (Oh, and it's not an April Fools joke -- we confirmed this news with the magazine.)GoNintendo has scanned parts of said article and provides some details, such as the Wii Remote's use in interacting directly with environment-based puzzles. Subscribers to the magazine are beginning to get the issue now, and Nintendo Power tells us to expect an update related to the game next week.

I am sop pissed that a remake for one of the best games ever has to be Wii only. Whats with this trend ? Resident Evil and Umbrella Chronicles now this. Ugh. Im a huge SH fan but buying a Wii is out of the question.
Meloche @ Apr 1st 2009 6:18PM
Umbrella Chronicles is a remake? That's new to me! :P
Roto13 @ Apr 1st 2009 6:26PM
If it has games you want to play, why is buying a Wii out of the question?
Sly (PSN slycooper_rocker) @ Apr 1st 2009 6:29PM
he means he likes the series but he won't buy a new console to play one game. it's reasonable.
TwEE @ Apr 1st 2009 6:38PM
Silent Hill, Dark chronicles, Resident Evil (4?) and Umbrella Chronicles. So thats four Sly (PSN slycooper_rocker).. then theres Ninja bread man and anubis 2, those are pretty scary.
Roto13 @ Apr 1st 2009 6:41PM
There's also Resident Evil and Resident Evil 0.
Mr Khan @ Apr 1st 2009 7:16PM
Then just buy it. The software situation on Wii is only going to improve...
Gun Barrier @ Apr 1st 2009 6:11PM
Nintendo: "April Fools? Never heard of it. Look at this new game."
Fernando Rocker @ Apr 1st 2009 6:16PM
I hope you can control the flashlight with the IR Pointer. That would be awesome.
Fernando Rocker @ Apr 1st 2009 6:20PM
Lighting looks pretty good. I hope we can have better scans later.

Also:
“Longtime fans of the series will also be delighted to learn that there’s a way through every locked door; no more checking dozens of entrances only to find that 90% of them are permanently barred shut.”

more rabbids? i hope the money they make off the rabbid games go to making a new REAL rayman.
Fernando Rocker @ Apr 1st 2009 6:32PM
Rabbids are cool... and now they will have a proper game.
Mister Bogus (Mr. ESC) @ Apr 1st 2009 6:58PM
Finally a platformer but um what happened to you know Rayman? Is like Ubi totally forgot him.
Mr Khan @ Apr 1st 2009 7:17PM
So long as its a proper platformer, i'm all kinds of down with that.
Roto13 @ Apr 1st 2009 8:02PM
I've always liked the Rabbids but I've never wanted to play one of their minigame collections. I can get behind this.
But yes. Bring back Rayman.
Kyle Nichol @ Apr 2nd 2009 1:34PM
Has the PSone Original returned to the European PSN store yet? I've not bothered to check since I bought it the day it came out before it was removed for compatability issues.
MLS @ Apr 1st 2009 6:26PM
That artwork looks terrible. That expression is like something from the 90's. Fitting it would be on Nintendo Power.
Still I'm stoked. The original narrative and cutscenes in Silent Hill never quite worked, though the rest of the game was amazing. A reboot sounds good. Just try not to borrow much from the movie, plz.
Reuben @ Apr 1st 2009 6:35PM
I don't own a Wii. I am a giant Silent Hill fan. I dot support the practice of putting down money for a console to play one game.
This is a problem.
Feba @ Apr 2nd 2009 9:30AM
Good thing there's plenty of Wii games worth owning out there!
Go look at Metacritic, look through the list of games on Wii. You'll definitely find some that interest you. Also check out lists of virtual console and WiiWare titles, chances are you'll find at least a few of those interesting.
Neuromancer @ Apr 1st 2009 6:39PM
Radio... What's going on with that radio?
Mister Bogus (Mr. ESC) @ Apr 1st 2009 6:44PM
Yeah why I can't tune to Galaxy news radio? and the noise only gets louder, let me tell you another.... OMGF what the f*ck is that!! it doesn't even have limbs is only a clevage with legs and not in a good way,Oh God where am I why everything is so dark and why I only have 6 rounds for the hunting rifle? A Boss now! wth I only have six bullets and a bottle of health.
TwEE @ Apr 1st 2009 6:40PM
This is great news, cant wait to hear that radio static coming through the wiimote.
Moptimus Slime (Gobot in disguise) @ Apr 1st 2009 7:01PM
Didn't Disaster also do something like that?
TwEE @ Apr 1st 2009 9:45PM
Could be, never got the chance to play.. but however they utilize it I cant see it being as trippy as silent hill using it to signal the approach of some skinless abomination.
More developers should the speaker.. there's so many clever things they could do with it.. Picture this (I'm just making this up as I go along so this may sound stupid), a violent hide-n-go-seek game.
A competitive local multi player game , each player controls a main character and has a squad of about 5 soldiers (or bots, or something) that move on their own. They spread out in a level designed like a good mario kart battle level (think block fort) but with a lot of good places to hide.
The level would have to be divided into sections (red/blue/green , whatever).. The bots job would be to locate power ups or the opposing player's main character, while doing their best to stay hidden. Once they find something they contact you through the wiimote speaker, a recorded message would play, letting you know what they've found. Something along the lines of "speed boost in red section level 2" ,the exact location of the enemy player or something useless..
Since you don't know what the opposing players bots are saying (are they just calling to say "hi" or have they discovered your location) paranoia will ensue..
Robert Frost @ Apr 1st 2009 6:48PM
I was thinking bout selling ma wii, but no.
Mister Bogus (Mr. ESC) @ Apr 1st 2009 6:57PM
Kickass I love horror games.
SH and Fatal Frame 4 (Please don’t let it be like 3) it only would be better if American Wii owners get the Japanese remake of RE:0 (I didn’t had a GC) and new Obscure game.
SH is one of the strongest horror franchises too bad konami has been bastardazing the series lately I mean with more development Homecoming would have been awesome, I mean is good but it could’ve been better.
RE has more replay value but only a bit and to be honest 5 is making me sick, I already beat it in Novice, Normal and Veteran with S and the only thing left to do is to play on pro with the annoying 1 hit kills but I don’t feel like it especially because you need a human partner for that so yeah you have to play online. I helped a dude to get the S ranking yesterday in the first level and the game didn’t rate me because I miss the level intro, pure BS and I got more kills than the other dude.
Markez @ Apr 2nd 2009 12:56AM
I'm wit ya, for suuuuuuuure. Love me some SH, and haven't played a Fatal Frame before.
intro94 @ Apr 1st 2009 7:06PM
will this be developed by japanese team or the origins team?i didnt like how the last one had not really new story or anything to it.
Moptimus Slime (Gobot in disguise) @ Apr 1st 2009 7:13PM

Moptimus Slime (Gobot in disguise) @ Apr 1st 2009 7:12PM
Sweet, this alongside Cursed Mountain and (if rumors are to be believed) the revamped Winter make the Wii the lone survivor for the Survival Horror genre
Dopple Boppler @ Apr 1st 2009 7:20PM
Sorry, just had to say I love the Black Baron picture, if only for the fact that "Look Pimpin!" has to be one of the best songs in a video game ever.
Dopple Boppler @ Apr 1st 2009 7:16PM
It's not on rails? What is this I don't even
Mr Khan @ Apr 1st 2009 7:19PM
We knew about this one too, i think, but its good to have some details.
rglong @ Apr 1st 2009 7:32PM
WTF I received this issue a week ago.
daiwaig @ Apr 1st 2009 8:03PM
On rails shooter?!? I can only hope.
TwEE @ Apr 1st 2009 10:50PM
Rumours are there's no combat in this game, when a monster approaches you run or die. This was posted by somebody (with a copy of Nintendo power I'm assuming )comment section at Nintendo..
"Once the monsters see you, the chase is on. “Holding Z button makes Harry get the lead out, and during the getaway, you can barge through doors, climb over fences, jump through windows, and so on. You can even barricade doors behind you with a bookshelf or whatever else might be handy. The static gets louder as the monsters close in, and while Harry is running, you can look back over his shoulder. Watching these abominations leap over cars and crawl along the rooftops as they relentlessly pursue our hero had us on the edge of our seats.” “To be clear, these chase sequences aren’t quick-time events; you have full control over Harry and can choose whichever path you see fit to his destination.” “The monsters will take alternate routes to try to cut you off, and they’ll use their numbers to flank you whenever possible.” "
HighFiveJesus @ Apr 1st 2009 11:13PM
sounds killer sweet.
Highlar @ Apr 2nd 2009 12:35AM
If that's the way this game is, that sounds really sweet. Talk about adding to the tension! No time to fight...nowhere to run but scramble up that fence and hope nothing is on the other side...static getting louder...louder...and the shivers running down your spine as you glance over your shoulder and see the monsters crawl over the fence behind you. That would certainly add a different feel to the game than the original, but how would it work for boss fights? You'd still have to have combat for those, wouldn't you? Or would it be that you'd have to use the environment now to kill bosses, rather than weapons on hand? Its something to think about, but I think the concept sounds pretty trippy. :-)

Now I know where Remedy got their inspiration from for Alan Wake.Wait a second, whats Alan Wake?
