Tales of Vesperia coming to PS3, Tales of VS for PSP
Like you didn't see this one coming. Namco Bandai has finally announced a PS3 version of Tales of Vesperia. The game's exclusivity to Xbox 360 was always questioned, especially after a few noteworthy slip-ups on Namco Bandai's part. Like Eternal Sonata before it, the upcoming PS3 version of Vesperia will be enhanced over the original. Details are scarce for now, but the game will feature at least one new character. Japan will receive the enhanced port later this year.
In addition to Vesperia, the Japanese magazine debuted another Tales game for the PlayStation systems. Tales of VS, a PSP-exclusive that looks to be Namco Bandai's attempt at a Dissidia clone. The screens showcase characters from a number of Tales games brawling in a 3D environment, and indicate that VS looks to outdo Square Enix's fighter by offering support for up to four characters. As long as games like VS continue to be announced, it looks as though PSP is going to have another monster year in Japan.

I hate April Fools day.
BxGT @ Apr 1st 2009 3:08PM
It seems people forget what exclusive means.
NaeemTHM @ Apr 1st 2009 3:14PM
You only realize that now? The PS3 and 360 have been playing sloppy seconds with exclusives since 2007.
Honestly, good riddance. I already own a 360 and Wii, another system would just add to the clutter.
Though I'll get a PS3 if I ever find one with backwards compatibility for less than 400 bucks.
atrimus @ Apr 1st 2009 3:15PM
it means "Lose Money" in third-party corporate lingo. glad first party stuff was the main selling point in my decision to buy a PS360.
ryuk @ Apr 1st 2009 3:35PM
@NaeemTHM: my friend got a BC 80gb PS3 for $299 with MK vs. DC and motorstorm, just search the internet
NaeemTHM @ Apr 1st 2009 3:46PM
O__O
I'm on it.
DamienSkies @ Apr 1st 2009 9:49PM
I actually just bought a 80GB BC PS3 for $375. Thank you Craigslist.
Cosmo @ Apr 1st 2009 3:17PM
If this isn't another well crafted April Fools joke, its no surprise. At least with the PS3 version, many more Japanese will get to play the game now and they of course love Japanese RPGs. Its a no brainer. This game was really on the 360 first and exclusive to get Japanese to buy the 360.
F1: Basu Gasu Bakuhatsu @ Apr 1st 2009 3:18PM
God this is a good game.
SoCoolCurt (PSN: KillaKornbread - XBL: SoCoolCurt) @ Apr 1st 2009 8:16PM
amen to that. i think i'll boot it up now. im right near the end, just gotta bring it home.
skyzbig @ Apr 1st 2009 3:19PM
The Last Hope is surely next.
-Jad- @ Apr 1st 2009 4:11PM
U really think so...???
Cuz I dont believe it until I see it XD
Roto13 @ Apr 1st 2009 3:22PM
I think we all saw this coming. :P I hope it gets a North American release. I'll buy it.
Bissy Boy (PSN johnnynumber5) @ Apr 1st 2009 4:16PM
Surely it will get a North American release (I hope) this year as well. Looking like an up year for ps3 rpg's this year with Cross Edge & White Knight Chronicles along with a few other titles.
Roto13 @ Apr 1st 2009 4:37PM
Well, apparently the 360 version didn't really blow the world apart in North America. :P And the PS2 version of Tales of Symphonia didn't come out in North America, though the Tales series is probably more popular here now than it was at that point.
Bissy Boy (PSN johnnynumber5) @ Apr 1st 2009 3:24PM
I guess next up for the PS3 is Last Remnant, Star Ocean IV & Infinite Undiscovery. We might even see Valkyria Chronciles get the 360 treatment. It makes sense to release these games across both platforms especially in this economic climate.
I picked up Eternal Sonata on the PS3 & I'll also pick up Vesperia when it drops especially with the added content.
atrimus @ Apr 1st 2009 3:44PM
well, i think Microsoft got its fingers intertwined in Infinite Undiscovery. the others i wouldn't doubt though...except for Valkyria Chronicles. Sega has already released limited quantities of that game in the States due to lackluster sales; i doubt they'd go through the financial trouble of porting it to the 360, where it probably wouldn't sell any better in the States, and most assuredly will sell much worse in Japan. but hey, i could be wrong.
Bissy Boy (PSN johnnynumber5) @ Apr 1st 2009 4:18PM
I thought they had their fingers in Lost Odyssey not Infinite Undiscovery.
Hyams @ Apr 1st 2009 6:59PM
They have their fingers in both.
Who knew that the "my germs!" technique could be used as a legal contract.
CJLopez @ Apr 2nd 2009 12:16PM
for all those titles to come to the PS3, my "360 exclusive games worth to buy a 360" would come down to 2, xDDDDD
otarumx @ Apr 1st 2009 3:24PM
I'll refrain from getting happy about this until tomorrow, this reeks of April Fools
Josh @ Apr 1st 2009 3:26PM
YES YES YES YES YES!
FINALLY!
Now this better come out in North America, too!
-Jad- @ Apr 1st 2009 4:11PM
Well, they need to remake some VA for that character... if happen.
Maverick Saturn @ Apr 1st 2009 3:26PM
I bet the Japanese who bought a 360 to play this game feel silly now.
Either way, this is becoming a routine now
Game is announced for 360 Exclusive
Game releases for 360 Exclusive
Nothing more is heard
Year later, game exclusivity is broken, is announced for PS3
PS3 version contains more
So basically you have a choice, play much earlier but get less or play much later and get more :O
HighFiveJesus @ Apr 1st 2009 3:29PM
with so many games coming out at once, i'm cool to wait on some of them.
JD @ Apr 1st 2009 4:01PM
Not always true. Funny FANBOYS don't seem to care about extra content when it pertains to DLC (i.e. GTA4) and state "as if I would have time for game expansions! you can keep your DLC!!" ... but will boast the first chance they get about extras that come to a game that's months old already. Can we give the fanboy chest beating a rest already! Congrats on PS3 OWNERS on getting some RPG's they're waiting for.
Laurens Holst @ Apr 1st 2009 4:03PM
Well, except that Star Ocean 4 is still not announced to be ported to PS3 :( (and although I do not recall reading an outright denial, I have doubts whether that will still happen *cry*).
Laurens Holst @ Apr 1st 2009 4:04PM
But I’m glad Tales of Vesperia is coming to the PS3 :). I’m been dying for some RPGs. Eternal Sonata is nice after being rpg-less for two years, but… a little more choice would be nice.
Emperor_Den_Den @ Apr 1st 2009 4:37PM
@ jd
man I hate how they make exclusive dlc it does scream less money for instance fallout dlc would of been so nice on ps3 along with some of the extras for oblivion. sigh I wish this war between platforms would stop sigh coughandsonywouldstopbeingmoneyhungrycough
Moonshine Jack @ Apr 1st 2009 3:38PM
...They had better throw us 360 owners some DLC... shifty shifty Namco...
jarhead906 @ Apr 1st 2009 3:54PM
Why?
I bet they will anyway. It will cost them a very small fraction of what they would earn by making the extra PS3 content available as 360 DLC.
Chris D.(PSN: Aggie_CEO | XBL:The Aggie CEO | Steam: Aggie_CEO @ Apr 1st 2009 3:38PM
Timed 360 Exclusives always crack me up. BUT with this being April fools day I wont get to excited...
dip @ Apr 1st 2009 3:52PM
360 can keep it's mediocre JRPG's.
deaftly @ Apr 1st 2009 4:09PM
ps3 can keep all its..... wait what does it have again?
Great Golem+ @ Apr 1st 2009 4:18PM
It doesn't have you, "Deaftly", and that's a good thing...
Cosmo @ Apr 1st 2009 4:22PM
ps3 can keep all its..... wait what does it have again?
Rachet and Clank Future, Uncharted, Killzone 2, Warhawk, LittleBigPlanet, Metal Gear Solid 4, Resistance, Gran Turismo, etc.
The 360 has its own nice exclusive line-up that makes that system worth buying like Fable 2, Gears of War, Halo, Project Gotham, Mass Effect, etc.
dip @ Apr 1st 2009 4:40PM
I wasn't slating the 360; I was merely expressing my disinterest in it's generally poor JRPG offerings.
Cerpin Taxt @ Apr 1st 2009 3:59PM
I'm a fan of the Tales series and, as a PS3 owner and fan of the JRPG genre, I'm almost obligated to get this...if it comes out in America.
lennygundam14 @ Apr 1st 2009 4:03PM
Next up on the list from Namco Bandai to 360 games which has lost exclusivity , Ace Combat.
mikeisthegreatest @ Apr 1st 2009 4:12PM
Dude! I really hope this isn't a April Fools Day prank. If it is i will cry.
Jinsenken @ Apr 1st 2009 4:33PM
Screw Joystiq if this is April fools, if not, THANK GOD!
Traded in my 360 for a PS3 and I've regretted not being able to get this game. Now all I need is Star Ocean ps3 and I'm set.
Charlie_Six @ Apr 1st 2009 4:36PM
I wish Bandai would bring friggin' Mobile Ops: One Year (aka Operation Troy) and Ace Combat 6 to the ps3 now too.
RagingStormX @ Apr 1st 2009 4:39PM
Its about time.....I will be getting this no doubt, and it better have trophy support too :P. Come on Tri-Ace, just like NamcoBandi....there is no shame, we await your PS3 release of SO4 and Infinite Undiscovery.
Looks like the 360 is loosing its RPG edge...so without further adu

ZEN @ Apr 1st 2009 4:50PM
This seems to be a growing trend... release Game A for the 360 as a timed exclusive, then release Game A, with enhancements in the form of better visuals, more content, etc., roughly a year later.
Command & Conquer: Red Alert 3, Ninja Gaiden Sigma 2 and now Tales of Vesperia...
mathemagical @ Apr 1st 2009 4:56PM
I have this for the 360, and I was really hoping Namco was going to do new Tales game for the PS3. That being said, "Will I buy a PS3 for a new character?"
Why yes, yes I will. (and of course some other games I'm itching to try)
The American release date is the day I grab a PS3.
Lawrence Oldham @ Apr 1st 2009 4:57PM
I have no problem with the game going to PS3 (Hopefully better sales), but I pray that the "extras" on the Playstation version make its way to the Xbox version via DLC. Or this could be just a creul April Fools Joke.
Mr Khan @ Apr 1st 2009 5:02PM
Makes sense for them at least, Vesperia didn't do that well sales-wise. More opportunity for them to recoup their investment.
iFester @ Apr 1st 2009 5:06PM
I'm actually kind of ticked off if this news is true (I bet it is). I bought the limited edition with the soundtrack and it came with a download code for assumed DLC. The site says something's coming but nothing's been announced since launch. I doubt they'll release the PS3 exclusive stuff as the coded bonus. I'm buying a PS3 next week so maybe I'll just trade this game in towards it.
Elven_Star @ Apr 1st 2009 5:08PM
"Tales of VS, a PSP-exclusive that looks to be Namco Bandai's attempt at a Dissidia clone"
Namco failed.
Havok @ Apr 1st 2009 5:23PM
I sincerely hope it's just coincidence.
Scan of the announcement a la joystiq's link.
