Brace yourself for the new Xbox 360 System Update
We don't think we're being presumptuous when we say that April 2 will forever be remembered as the day when the New New Xbox Experience went live. Just how epic is it going to be? Well, as you can see, we've chosen a picture of a totally sweet phoenix rising from the ashes to accompany the post so you tell us.Grab a glass of iced tea, power on your 360, and get ready to address "interruption issues that some Xbox LIVE users may have experienced when playing a limited number of Xbox 360 games." Also new? Nothing. Sorry.

God, I get disconnected when playing Street Fighter all the time. It's during player matches with friends so I know they aren't rage quits, christ, it happened 3 times immediately in a row yesterday, before we were even able to get past the character select screen. I already called my ISP and had them monitor my connection, they claim the signal is great, I'm not dropping packets, etc.. So I hope this helps. Curiously, sometimes when I get disconnected I also get that "disconnected from messenger" notice. I don't even use this messenger.. Could it be interfering with my connection somehow? How to I tell the 360 not to sign into that messenger crap?
EtOH @ Apr 2nd 2009 10:06AM
Somewhere deep in the bowels of the NXE, there are the auto sign in options, allowing you to tell the xbox to auto sign in a certain profile. In that area is the option to turn off the auto messanger sign in. I think you get to it from the guide---> settings, profile settings, or something like that, then auto sign in options. Hope that helps.
ssuk @ Apr 2nd 2009 10:32AM
Yes, that auto sign-in is somewhere... Took me a couple of days after my 360 came back from the RRoD factory to find it. It's definitely in the guide somewhere...
infernus @ Apr 2nd 2009 11:27AM
Press Guide and tab right to Settings. In the Edit Profile menu, the last option is Auto Sign-In.
jumpshot @ Apr 2nd 2009 12:08PM
I would check whatever hardware is between your xbox and your isp. Also, tweak router settings. I gotta say, I've been on live with an isp that's crap and the only disconnect I had with Live was when COD4 came out and they had that crushing demand of new online gamers. And that didn't last long either, but before or after that I've had no problems.
Messenger might be causing a problem, but it's doubtful. Mine is disabled. I think you can do that from the messenger tab itself, or in the startup preferences, iirc.
Thief @ Apr 2nd 2009 1:38PM
Does anyone here know if there's also an auto-storage selection option as well? When I got my 360 back from the depot, EVERY single game asks me which storage device I would like to use. I only have my 20gig harddrive, no memory cards or anything.
Any ideas?

The updates, they do nothing!!!
Redpill101 @ Apr 2nd 2009 9:57AM
I've just got it and it's made my start up of me console rely slow it just sits there and then goes to the dashboard. I had to reset 3 times to get it to work.
And it would recognize halo 3 untill I rebooted a fourth time
Mazrael @ Apr 2nd 2009 1:34PM
mine seems a little quicker, in the menu's.. marketplace itself is still slow at first, even with a game that only has a trailer, like R.U.S.E. (yeah, me neither).. but seems to sort itself after that one search, like Rock Band 2 content is up in a few seconds now
Shmil @ Apr 2nd 2009 3:38PM
try reinserting the disc rather than rebooting the entire xbox
Redpill101 @ Apr 2nd 2009 3:59PM
Yea I did the tray reload an wouldn't work untill I rebooted
Shmil @ Apr 2nd 2009 4:38PM
i have a similar problem but only with my halo 3 disc for some reason. I think the disc may be scratched a bit.
joeybeast @ Apr 2nd 2009 10:00AM
What ever happened to Primetime?
Kvamme @ Apr 2nd 2009 11:06AM
What ever happen to watching Netflix movies with your party?
Powaqqatsi @ Apr 2nd 2009 11:34AM
That's a good question.
jbuers @ Apr 2nd 2009 11:52AM
What ever happened to predictability? The milk man, the paper boy, evening TV?
MarkHawk @ Apr 2nd 2009 12:00PM
Man I really want Nextflix Partys. I'd love to watch Air Force One with some of the guys. That'd be a blast.
Overall I want a more stable system and free stuff more often.
uncle jesse @ Apr 2nd 2009 12:52PM
@jbuers
You just made me spit coffee on my keyboard. Now that song is in my head with flashes of the Tanners driving their convertible on the Golden Gate, riding the trolley, and having a picnic.
Thank you
Tiptup300 @ Apr 2nd 2009 1:57PM
Am I the only one who though Netflix Parties sounded like the dumbest thing ever thought of?
joeybeast @ Apr 2nd 2009 2:48PM
All I'm saying is MS promised Primetime in spring and we didn't hear anything at GDC.
So what's up, MS?
rohan @ Apr 2nd 2009 10:04AM
i think this pic should have been used with file front
Timerider @ Apr 2nd 2009 10:05AM
I get disconnected from Team Fortress 2 all the time. Usually at the least convenient time.
Foggy Bottoms @ Apr 2nd 2009 7:06PM
that's valve's problem
Evil Bastard @ Apr 2nd 2009 10:06AM
I sent an email to support asking what the update consisted of. Haven't heard back yet.
blairseip @ Apr 2nd 2009 10:10AM
Wow, Sexualchocolate, your comment certainly went off the rails in a hurry.
Unfortunately, the update didn't fix the problem I'm having in downloading some of the Oblivion DLC that went on sale yesterday. *sigh*
jarhead906 @ Apr 2nd 2009 10:49AM
Better not be Horse Armor...
sunfiredragon @ Apr 2nd 2009 10:53AM
You too? I can't download the Orrery to save my life, but the rest of the content went fine...
I'm not sure what to do about it.
Daryn St. Pierre @ Apr 2nd 2009 10:16AM
I've been getting disconnected from Left 4 Dead recently and it's really annoying. Then shortly after, I get disconnected from Xbox LIVE altogether. I hope it's related to this and I hope the update fixes it. Otherwise I'm going to throw Bellsouth DSL in the shitter and find something else.
Alex @ Apr 2nd 2009 12:27PM
+2 to that (same with one of my friends).
I just hope this update doesn't brick my xbox like the last one did.
Chief Oddball @ Apr 2nd 2009 1:02PM
Same here. Made Left 4 Dead unplayable a couple weekends ago. Constant disconnects.
Hopefully this update fixes it.
Timerider @ Apr 2nd 2009 2:05PM
Same here, I get kicked out of Live, too. My ISP says there are lots of errors on my line and they won't/can't fix it. TDS is the only ISP in the area. F****** sucks.
Cody @ Apr 2nd 2009 10:14AM
LOL +1 for you good sir.
sirshabz786 @ Apr 2nd 2009 10:20AM
meh....just done it....
i guess its under the hood update
oh well
i hope they release a really cool one this year....
like adding an update where if you put in ur copy of SF4 then you get to play the future and see what SF7 looks like
now that would be WIN!!!!!
Paul @ Apr 2nd 2009 1:56PM

sirshabz786 @ Apr 2nd 2009 1:57PM

Hmm I don't think seven lines really constitutes a wall of text.
GhostofGrendel @ Apr 2nd 2009 10:24AM
Didn't the powers that be at MS say that the one of the things they liked about the NXE is that they were going to be able to do a lot more system updates and things of that nature much more frequently than they did before when they had those ridiculous "spring updates" or "fall updates" that you ended up getting at the last possible second. I just wondered because that doesn't really seem to be happening like they said. I could be wrong if things like this count. Any thoughts?
DJcube @ Apr 2nd 2009 10:27AM
I haven't had many disconnect issues with games (although some days I can't connect with some of my friends...getting someone else to host fixes that).
Hopefully a party chat fix is included with the "interruption issues" fix. I get disconnected (it tells me that everyone else has left) from it a lot and the voice chat drops for around 20 seconds quite often.
JeffyP00 @ Apr 2nd 2009 10:39AM
I have a feeling the party chat issue is related to my SF4 disconnect issue. I recall playing this particular friend (that I mentioned having DC issues with in above post) once but we were talking in party chat instead of via the SF4 lobby, and when we got disconnected from our game, I'll also get the notice that my friend has "left the party." This is SF is my first real online gaming experience on Live (just got a 360 several months ago and primarily played single player RPGs and stuff before this) and I have to say it's been rather frustrating...
Jon @ Apr 2nd 2009 10:34AM
have they fixed the dropping of players from party chat yet?

chizenguy5 @ Apr 2nd 2009 1:22PM
LMFAO, seriously though I enjoy fox news for entertainment purposes, I watch my local channel CLTV for my news. Back to the dumb ass update, what exactly does it do, I'm so tired of these fucking mystery updates. I've already been hit hard by the NXE virus, and to this day Microsoft refuses to remove if from my console. SMH, for now I will sit quietly and wait for a unified console...and, no I don't mean PC or Mac.
Shmil @ Apr 2nd 2009 3:46PM
I'd bring a book because you'll be sitting for a while.
iFester @ Apr 2nd 2009 10:55AM
This update is more likely to help those with lagging with the guide button. I've had a lot of slowdown using the blades menu. After applying the update it seems a bit faster. Not something significantly better, but there's improvement.
