What an ignorant statement. Claiming that French is indigenous to the area is not going to fly well with the First Nations people.

Besides, it is just stupid.. I can buy stuff in any language. There is no law here in B.C. that says everything must have English. I can go to Chinatown and pick up some Chinese only DVDs and I'm certain that isn't going to hurt our traditionally English language culture here.

French-Canadian nationalists here in Canada are just a bunch of whiners who can't accept the fact that they are indeed a minority in Canada.
Also worth noting that they have no problem with French only products on the market... despite the majority of Quebec's population speaking English.

Stupid Quebec... You should just separate, you ridiculous province. You dont deserve Alberta's oil revenue anyways!
French this, French that, get over yourselves. it's a french/english country, so stop being so damn stuck up and pull your heads out off your @sses and realize that being ultra-nationalistic about your province is stupid. nationalism is with the word NATION! Not PROVINCE.

If you think this is a problem with french canadians, you are 100% wrong. I'm a french canadian, and I think that this is absolutely rediculous. I oppose law 101 completely, which is essentially what is giving the OLF the power to do this. This law exists regardless of whether a separatist power is elected, or a liberal party is elected, therefore citizens of quebec are essentially powerless to fight this.

You think that Quebec needs oil money from alberta? Don't be rediculous, you ass. Quebec has the highest hydro-electric production capacity in north america, a resource that is RENEWABLE and isn't ruining our environment (compared to albertan oil production)

I fear that movies, books, music, etc etc are next. Instead of using this as an excuse to hate on a province (and a people) you know nothing about, how about supporting the quebec people in fighting these actions? Let's stand together as canadians instead of being ignorant fools.

You hate french canadians? You racist piece of trash, i bet you hate jews, blacks, chinese, and anyone else different also. Look back in your lineage and i'm sure that more than half of you have french blood in your family.

For the record, the seperatist movement in quebec is DEAD, and I went to english school. The law of french schools is for people who's parents were not born in canada. If they were to move here and not learn french, then they would essentially be at a disadvantage, so this is more to protect people. I personally think it is wrong, but there are an infinite number of places people could move if they wanted to live in english only areas. On top of this, a court ruling recently granted someone the right to go to school in english, setting precedence that could eventually lead to abolition of this law.

Before you open your mouths and berate a people who have done nothing to affect your lives, why don't you go read a book instead of instantly spewing hate. You may realize that quebec is an integral part of canadian history.

No shit... I feel so bad for them with stuff like this. Like honestly, who is this helping? Did they not realize that they will just stop producing games for that area? And more importantly, what will that do for their economy? They have some MAJOR studios in Quebec (Ubisoft, EIDOS, EA, etc...), will they stick around? What of MIGS? Will it bother to continue year after year if games are barely seeing the light of day in the province?

The problem is that the Qubecious aren't even speaking french they spaek "angolphon" wich means the localized (France) version will also not suffice.

As an Albertan I feel bad for every english speaking Quebecious out there because of thier nationalistic ways and the laws and taxes passed on to them based on geographical location. It's just getting downright rediciulous (sp).

At least it gives EA an excuse not ship RockBand instead of saying hardware shortages they can blame it on French Packaging.

I did grow up in a French town (They actually call themselves ``Little Quebec``) in Alberta and was forced to learn some french, so I may be biased.

Seriously though this is getting out of hand.

Actually it's neither anglophon(e) or francophone (although the latter is spelled right, it doen't meen that). All it meens is someone who speaks english/french (respectivelly), usually used in the context of a community or when describing a nation (e.g. Frace is francophone, the UK and USA are anglophone and Canada is both, with specific communities being reffered to as such). Saying that "Canadians speek francophone or anglophone" just doesn't make sense (or is very, VERY bad grammar, worse even than that used in automated translators such as babelfish or googles translator). I can only assume that KageyK ment they speak anglisised french, or some french canadian equivalent of american english.

Believe it or not France is more relaxed about language than Quebec. Also Quebec French is not the same as France French. It's an older dialect.

Ridiculous, and couldn't come at a worse time. I don't know how badly affected by the current economic climate they are in Quebec, but I'm sure they're feeling it one way or another. This will just cause job losses and decreased revenue to businesses in their province.

It's pretty amazing how willfully stupid some governments can be, all just to make a worthless political statement.

You can go to the school of the language you want but if you go in a French school you have to take english courses, if you go in a English school you have to take French courses (the same as the rest of Canada) and if you go to a school with another language. You have to take French and English courses equaly.

Please. The rest of Canada constantly has to bend over backwards and give Quebec special treatment and they think they deserve it because they speak a different language. It's complete bullshit. Can you imagine the kind of backlash that would come with any other province or American state if they outlawed the sale of any books or movies that weren't in English? The completely deserved accusations of xenophobia that would go with it?

Quebec city was founded in 1608 by noted explorer Samuel de Champlain,by 1963 the British had taken control of Quebec after the French and Indian War. In 1867, the territory of East Canada became the province of Quebec in what was now Canada the nation that was still controlled by the British. Eventually, by the 1960s after gaining independence with the rest of Canada in the 1930s, experienced what was known as the Quiet Revolution where most of the area made a very quick change to secularism. The number 1 religion in Quebec is Catholicism, the flag is reminiscent of England's Union Jack but with a white cross and a fleurdelise on the squares. See? I'm not ignorant, I know all about Quebec, and it's still stupid

I bet Ontario-based game retailers couldn't be happier about this law. It goes to show the arrogance of the Quebec legislators, when they don't realize that driving consumers to other provinces for game sales will decrease their own tax revenue from said sales. What a dumb idea.

Yeah, so how does that work? Do people end up travelling to a nearby province to buy the game in English, or can they go online and buy it? It seems like it punishes local retailers more than anyone else.

How is this going to promote and protect the French language and culture? If anything it will drive business owners out of Quebec into the more English based areas around them. In other words, it'll actually hurt the French language.
