So what is this game? Seeing as its voice by Jack Black and that it shows resemblance to him aswell...Is this going to be like a Tenacious D: The Game?

Have you seen the movie "Heavy Metal"? If not, is like the whole conceptual fantasy about the origin of rock, an epic with motorcycles, leather jackets, testosterone and a lot of metal.

The idea is absolutely fantastic to me, it is just surreal as Psychonauts.

Well going on the Wii idea, I think... I thik it sounds very risky. Graphics are not my maximum priority but I don't want them to cut out features the other versions have due to hardware limitations. I think a more interesting question would be why isn't there going to be a PC version? Tim Schafer's works have been always attacked to the PC.

What I wouldn't give for a Tim Schafer game on the wii. heck I'd take Psychonauts ported over a la Okami if EA won't let him do something original on the system

Nah by the looks of things so far they can keep the core game intact moving it over to the Wii. The poly count on the models seems doable and they'd just have to change some post processing and lower the texture DPI.

Are you sure they aren't just rephrasing yesterday's speculation? They don't seem to have any kind of source.

So what if there good source is just having read your wild speculation, in which case you are reporting on a rumor reported by someone else but created by you.

That sounds like a puzzle in a Tim Schafer game.

Is there a reason why Double Fine can't develop it?

Because they're busy making it for the 360 and PS3

They've got a final product in mind, and they are set on seeing their vision through. More than likely, if this game is coming to Wii, it was commissioned by EA more so than Double Fine. As such, there is no reason for them to derail the train if EA could easilly hand it off to a smaller studio known for porting established games to less powerful systems.

I'd bet a 5P it goes to Krome Studios.

we already know 4 things.

1. Textures will take a significant hit
2. Poly counts will be reduced
3. there will be fewer characters on screen at once
4. there will be less features

see that really nice leather normal map? gone.
see those buttons? replaced with a low res color map
see that zipper? it'll be velcro!

And none of those graphical issues would affect gameplay. I don't care if the leather looks realistic. That's what porn is for.

@ guy who is damned to push a boulder up a mountain for eternity only to have it roll back down every time he makes it to the top

actually - less characters onscreen at a time hurts gameplay as does less feature.

im not a graphics whore either but when a game is made a certain w
ay it's meant to have those details. the art director has made all those decisions so that every detail fits nicely in the game, not to have them removed. Then it just looks disjointed.

on the "same game" can be built from ground up I wouldnt give a crap about realistic leather, because the art direction would have made decisions to make the game aesthetically pleasing with out the need of high res crap. e.g. Ghostbusters and Ghostbusters wii.

It's like saying im going to make a s'more (the original way to eat is grahm cracker, chocolate, marshmallow, melted together) but then because my mouth isnt powerful enough to handle it I make my smore with 5 day old oatmeal cookie, m&ms, and circus peanuts. it still has all the same ingredients but the original details were left out and thus you get cow crap.

but if I knew i was going to make a low budget smore then i'd get nilla wafers, nutella, and fluff - and it would be delicious.

catch my drift?

Ever hear of like uhm ... ports? What's important about this game is the style, humor and gameplay. There is very little a third party studio can screw around with this with Tim Schafer looking over their shoulder. The man sure knows how to make a brilliant game.

I don't know what's more sad... the fact developers have to down-res and dumb down their games to play on nintendo's half-assed 'upgrade' to the 'cube, or the fact that people are blindingly buying a 'cube with a bit more ram, crappy video output, and a controller that was nothing more than an add-on for a mario game...

The obvious solution is genocide against the casuals

Mr. Khan, the only way to truly eradicate the Earth of this vile machine is to attack it at its source. Our only option is to nuke Japan until not even Bear Grylls could survive on it.

So you enjoy paying for the same console all over again, not to mention buying old games a second time?

The solution is 1) for nintendo to get rid of their ridiculous 'friend codes' system and set up something a little less archaic, 2) offer a system that is an actual upgrade, not to mention offers modern A/V outputs, and 3) stop trying to brand itself as 'targeting the casual market'... they're not, they're just releasing rehashed versions of old games again and again and again, with a half-baked bit of spit and polish added to make it seem new.

The wii isn't "the casual gamer's system", because the 'cube was never the "casual gamer's system". There's no such thing as "the casual gamer's system", it's a system with incomplete games sold on it to fill a million and one niche markets.

Thats like saying "The PS3 can't be a Blu-Ray player because the PS2 wasn't a Blu-Ray player"

Also has Tim Schafer ever made a sequel to anything . . . ever?

I guess Day of the Tentacle sort of counts, being a sequel to Maniac Mansion, but that's probably being a bit pedantic seeing as the games are barely anything alike.

uh, Schafer IS what suggests that this game will be good...

His stories are well written and rather entertaining, his characters are deep and full fledged, and memorable as well.

The only thing that worries me is the mechanics of the game, that really isn't Schafer's forte, but the rest im pretty sure that will make for it

Like I said before as long as they kick this out to some other scrub developer and focus on not dumbing down the 360/ps3 versions then I don't really care about a wii version.

Although, schafer games don't typically sell very well and nothing about this game says it will sell decent on a system like the wii. Most real gamers that are getting this will be getting it on 360/ps3, and that's the audience this game is going for.

You obviously haven't played any Tim Schafer games, there is no way this game will be bad. His back catalog of games have all been amazing.

Hopefully the people that do the wii port try and keep the games feel and humor intact.

After Psychonauts I think that Tim Schafer deserves the right to be given a chance. Just because Jack Black is voicing the character is no reason to think that it will be a bad game. However I believe that if any other publisher besides Double Fine does the game it may affect it's playability.

Maybe the original post was a bit brash, but I kind of see where it's coming from. This game doesn't seem to be as open as Psychonauts in terms of who it can appeal to, Jack Black and Heavy Metal have a limited reach. And we still don't know if Erik Wolpaw is writing the story.

Don't get me wrong, I've been looking forward to the game since it was announced. But, I'm still a little wary of what exactly the final product will be. Schafer/Double Fine is just enough to guarantee that I'll buy and play it, not that it will necessarily be a great game.
