Saw omegle on a friend's facebook page the other night. I was getting ready to watch an oldie but goodie last night, City of God, and was recommended Tropa de Elite by some Brazilian after I told them I was going to watch it. I've since added it to my Netflix queue. Looks awesome. Also, apparently instead of loling, or hahaing, Brazilians do the following: AHUSHUAHUSHUHAUSH and/or ahuhsuahushuh

Seriously though, it's mildly interesting, but mostly lame. Going super viral. I tried it 3 times in a row, and got asl'd every time. I didn't know people still do that.

A lot of my Omegle conversations have been stupid beyond reason.

Stranger: "Hey, how do I copy and paste?"

Me: "Alt+F4"

Your conversational partner has disconnected.

Are you kidding?

I'm a self-hating waste of time and oxygen.

I merely wished to make an offhand observation about a peculiar coincidence. One day I'm reading a thread about trying to get a random chat partner to disconnect using the least messages possible (which is good fun, btw), and then Joystiq has a screencap of something very, very similar.

Perhaps this is Freudian slip of sorts? Part of me suspects one of the Joystiq staff of frequenting the asshole of the internet.

I'd say the most successful casual gaming platform ever is the PC, not the iPhone. Unless you were speaking only for portable devices... but even then, iPhone isn't the first case of mobile phone gaming being lucrative.

Sure, excepting the PC of course (which also has an issue with rampant piracy – see world of goo – that the iPhone doesn't have).

But what other portable platforms have had such a low barrier to entry and this level of success? Sure, Square Enix has made a fortune on DS and/or PSP but how much money has Joe Smith made? Or Joe Sixpack? Or Joe the Plumber for that matter?

Even with the piracy, the World of Goo guys made a profit. The game's successful financially. But I wouldn't even say that game's in the casual realm on PC. That's where developers like PopCap, BigFish Games, Reflexive Entertainment (and Arcade), and flash game portals like Kongregate come in.

iPhone is definitely good for making money in the portable market, but then there's take-downs you have to worry about. Case(s) in point:

Yoot Saito's game denied: http://www.joystiq.com/2009/01/18/apple-rejects-yoot-saitos-iphone-game-dev-staff-considered-sea/

Prohibition 2 blocked: http://fingergaming.com/2009/01/prohibition-2-blocked-from-app-store-distribution/

Slasher denied: http://blog.artsiness.com/2008/08/slasher-mysteriously-disappears.html

These are just a few examples of Apple axing whatever they deem as inappropriate. The Slasher post says something about the SDK not being for "offensive" content, but that's pretty broad, don't you think? There's also no end to things being rejected from the main app store.

It's fine, if that's how they want to run their business, but I think that we should be aware of this and not try to sell it as some open safe-haven for developers. That's what Google Android will be when it gets on more phones; they have no approval process.

Hey, Justin? Is there anyway you can set up a podcast where we just talk about Dark Sector? I mean, we can all play it, you get some guests, and we just get it out of our system. I've been wanting to play it too. I'm serious! But, I mean, how can I tell my friends I've been playing that game? They will laugh at me! Just keep it in mind.

I'm going to do a test when I get home from work on how long it takes a big game to boot fron a Wii's SD card. I've got all 5 Strong Bad episodes (300+ blocks each), World of Goo and Paper Mario so there's plenty of candidates.

I'm glad to here Ludwig again. The GDC episodes just weren't the same without him. Although, the same could be said about Justin's mid-show departure. You guys are like the triforce or something. You guys form a troika; like Kirk, McCoy, and Spock or the ego, id, and superego.

Now that I've subscribed to those, does anyone have any other good podcast suggestions I should be subscribing to?

It's funny how each console's failings goes back to their parent companies. The software company has notoriously faulty hardware, and the hardware company cannot get their software straight. Am I right, home slices? [wink, wink]
