PSA: Red Faction's Ostrich Hammer is real
Just a quick note: Remember the Ostrich Hammer that was revealed on April Fools' Day for Red Faction: Guerrilla? Yeah, well it's real. We asked Volition if the ornithoid tool would actually be featured in the game. At the time, we were told that the team was waiting to see what the community's reaction would be. It seemed feasible, given that the developers had gone to the trouble to actually model it in the game.
It's more than feasible now, it's official. Volition has confirmed -- with new screenshots, no less -- that the Ostrich Hammer will be an unlockable in Red Faction: Guerrilla's multiplayer mode. On top of that, the devs are promising plenty of new info in the coming weeks regarding "more hammer unlocks, new modes" and changes made based on multiplayer beta feedback.
We suggest you spend the interim researching what other animals would make the best hammers

damien @ Apr 3rd 2009 4:01PM
I'm not sure this is going to upset PETA, still you never know. They are an extremist organization.
chispito @ Apr 3rd 2009 4:48PM
All the more reason to be excited.
This looks like the coolest thing since Rise of the Triad's Dog Mode.
Averna @ Apr 3rd 2009 7:32PM

And then the gaming community wonders why video games isn't taken serious?
What I want to see is when you hit someone with the Ostrich Hammer you get a big puff or feathers that and the bird screams.
ice~ @ Apr 3rd 2009 3:39PM
Gaming doesn't have to be so serious, there's something called "fun" y'know...
reebo @ Apr 3rd 2009 3:41PM
Serious? Can you imagine being hit with a fucking ostrich? I don't think it gets much more serious than that.
Emperor_Den_Den @ Apr 3rd 2009 3:44PM
@Shimrra
bird fucc serious gaming
Alphathon @ Apr 3rd 2009 4:30PM
"And then the gaming community wonders why video games isn't taken serious?"
Do you even speak English? First, "isn't" should be "aren't" and "serious" should be "seriously". Second, that's not a question (why do so many people have problems with question marks?) Third, the "then" doesn't make sense as it's not a follow up to a previous comment and is not required anyway.*
/grammar nazi
Anyway, this looks like great fun. Reminds me of TimeSplitters, which is never a bad thing :)
*P.S. If you are not a native English speaker then it's understandable, so sorry if you're not.
Shimrra @ Apr 3rd 2009 4:48PM
sarcasm:
1: a sharp and often satirical or ironic utterance designed to cut or give pain
2 a: a mode of satirical wit depending for its effect on bitter, caustic, and often ironic language that is usually directed against an individual b: the use or language of sarcasm
Cause apparently some people dont seem to get it.
@ Alphathon - Heres some english for you...you ready...Your Mom's Box.
You need me to explain that to you there sonny boy? Maybe draw you a diagram there. Also correcting someones English does not make you look smart only pompous. :D So Say We All!
Snowblind @ Apr 3rd 2009 6:36PM
Sarcasm doesn't work on the internet, unless you're being *very* sarcastic.
There was no way to tell if you were being serious or not from your post, we can't tell what tone you're using. But it definitely didn't seem like a sarcastic remark, and you can't blame people for that.
And yes, correcting someones grammar/spelling online can be pretty pompous, but yours was particularly bad in that post and the negative remarks didn't help.
Averna @ Apr 3rd 2009 7:34PM
Box shouldn't have a capital B
*hides*
j.howlett @ Apr 3rd 2009 3:39PM
what were those birds they played with in alice in wonderland, flamingos? those would be nice
doreo @ Apr 3rd 2009 4:06PM
Gives new meaning to the saying "Choking the Chicken....ERRRR BIRD.....ERRRR OSTRICH.....ERRR HAMMER THING...."
Deeznuts420 @ Apr 3rd 2009 3:41PM
for a gajillion points.
Kamizar @ Apr 3rd 2009 3:41PM
Looks like they're going to have to go over those sales numbers, again.
Temidien @ Apr 3rd 2009 3:44PM
It's always nice to see developers reacting positively to fan demands. Even better that they're not treating this as DLC you have to purchase.
MystileArmor @ Apr 3rd 2009 9:34PM
I agree with you. Not only will they not dick people around like EA does, but they treat their fans in a very correct way.
I was in the beta for Red Faction. It was such a pleasant experience, not just because it was a good and fun game. The developers really listened to the fans feedback and issues and let people know what was going on etc. etc.
Just the way Volitions handles their potential customers and fanbase was incredibly satisfying. The way they treated me and others at that beta is what convinced me to buy this game at day one.
Rhamsey @ Apr 3rd 2009 3:44PM
this is awesome, the video hilarious and i cant wait to bird fuck someone. i er mean, nvm
Weezer @ Apr 3rd 2009 3:47PM
Need this game! Is that just a dead ostrich because you can notice that its feet are tied together. Somehow I don't think it would be quite as effective in real life, I've tried.
The Dark Wayne @ Apr 3rd 2009 3:49PM
wouldnt it be even better if they did put BIRDFUCKED! in there
Dirty @ Apr 3rd 2009 3:50PM
What happens when you hit someone in the balls with the ostrich hammer?
Ostrechtomy!?
ronald.raygun @ Apr 3rd 2009 4:46PM
ostrichsized followed by a nutshot? http://www.joystiq.com/2009/04/02/combat-arms-introduces-nut-shot-instant-kill/
mahouneko @ Apr 3rd 2009 3:59PM
Well, they've definitely sold the game to me now that the Ostrich Hammer is included.
inevercheckthis @ Apr 3rd 2009 4:01PM
@Dirty
I don't want to take away from your pun, but an " -ectomy" is the removal of something, usually during surgery. The prefix applies to what your removing, not how you're removing it.
Your "Ostrechtomy" would be removing his Ostrich.
oodlesofnoodles @ Apr 3rd 2009 4:23PM
I'm surprised no one thought of simply calling it "Flipping the Bird".
"Flip him the bird!"
*SQUAWK*
Dirty @ Apr 3rd 2009 4:24PM
Thats ok, Im retarded today. Someone must have put crack in my fun dip.
Dman @ Apr 3rd 2009 4:01PM
THANK YOU!
You have sealed the transaction between my wallet and this game, just for the joy of smacking some dudes around with an ostrich.
Also, it's pretty much guaranteed that the game's sales will be up about 1000%
If only halo did things like this with their hammer...
DaveMcRae @ Apr 3rd 2009 4:04PM
congrats, you just sold me your game.
Timerider @ Apr 3rd 2009 4:23PM
lol, I read that as "Otsirhc". Why would he get on here, hehe?
Vegeta (DAT ASS!!!) @ Apr 3rd 2009 5:04PM
NO OSTRICH NO!!!
BunnySlapper @ Apr 3rd 2009 6:08PM
Definition of Epic Win: When you do something as idiotic as add an Ostrich as a weapon to in your game, and actually INCREASE your sale projections - making that idiotic action pure genius.
Wardo @ Apr 3rd 2009 8:17PM
Epic. Congratulations sirs, you just got yourselves a customer.
schema @ Apr 4th 2009 5:30AM
This just got release-day awesome.
meatee @ Apr 4th 2009 5:02PM
