Has your recent playthrough of Tomb Raider: Underworld left you curious about Lara Croft's roots? No, not like, her hair (though she's obviously not a natural brunette) -- her history. Well, there's no better way to brush up on your Croftian comprehension than to check out Tomb Raider: Anniversary, the 2007 remake of the original Tomb Raider -- and thanks to Steam's current weekend deal, there's no better time to pick it up.
Valve's download platform is offering the updated grave robbing sim for just $5 until the end of the weekend. Sure, you could just as easily purchase a foot-long sandwich with that kind of cash, but we find double-pistoled tiger homicide to be much more fulfilling in the long run.

I came on here to say the same thing. I just try to remember to check Steam myself every Saturday morning from now on. I was pissed I missed out on the Ubisoft deal last weekend.

I just recently had played my first Tomb Raider game from start to finish(Tomb Raider: Underworld) an I thought it was amazing! I could never finish others cause I thought they were boring. When I saw this I told a friend an he's such a nice guy he bought him AND me one...it's only 5 bucks each but still, nice gesture lol. I haven't started it yet cause I got Splinter Cell Chaos Theory to finish still. I got Prince Of Persia Two Thrones off Steam at the same time(haven't started it up at all yet). I also have Brothers In Arms Hells Highway coming in the mail(just for the story,I hear MP blows). I recently got Merchants Of Brooklyn off steam too(nice CryEngine powered game) an I can't get passed this level that just crashs on me constantly. All in all..I should be pretty busy till May. I'm just waiting on Red Faction Geurilla to come out now. Happy Gaming

You go out of your way to make a joke about Lara’s “roots” and then don’t notice the all too obvious followup as you tell us to “brush up” on our Tomb Raider lore? C’mon guys, you’re writers, pointing out really bad puns is supposed to be your thing!

And for a smartass remark...
Technically, it wouldn't be 'homocide' if you were killing tigers. I don't know what it'd be called though...."Tigercide?" lol....
PS LARA HAS A HAWT BODY WOOT WOOT

Thanks for the catch.
"Homicide"-Killing a person in general
"Homocide"-killing people who aren't straight?

Also technically speaking, I don't think there are any tigers in Tomb Raider: Anniversary.

What? What are you talking about? In what way do they have terrible support for them? That's an insanely ambiguous statement.
Besides, Tomb Raider is made by Eidos, not Valve. Steam is owned by Valve. IE: If there's a problem with a game, it isn't instantly Valve's or Steam's fault.
Then again, I ask what 'terrible support' are you talking about? I've bought 29 games on Steam over the last couple of years and haven't had a single problem with Steam since 2006.

well wait til you do have a problem. i have over 11 games on mine, had a problem playing bioshock and TF2. contacted them and sent my Sys.dat file to them and they sent me a list of randomly generated responds like turn off your firewall, which was off and disabled at the time. responded to them and they never got back to me. had to start a new case with them on there help page and after 3 weeks they got back to me with the same responses. so yea steam has HORRIBLE support.

I bought this yesterday and I only have two complaints. First, I'm only about an hour in and I'm already bored of that stupid hand-stand she does when she climb up onto a platform. Second, I think she's purposely aiming for non-vital areas of her targets. I just can't imagine it taking 6+ bullets to take down one wolf. Seriously, one or two shots in the head should be enough. The shooting bits are really boring.
When there's no enemies around, though, the platforming is reasonably fun.
This is all coming from someone who has never before played a Tomb Raider game (never had a reason to, but just happened to have $5 and a bit of time to waste), so maybe these are common problems with the series.

The original TR in 96 was like a revelation in gaming for me. Having not played Mario64. TR really amazed me! I could finally explore a virtual 3D world. While seeing my character. I was always into that, exploring caves, castles, dungeons and temples. That excitement of discovery and what was just around the next corner. Even when I was playing Adventure on Atari. I was dreaming of a game like that. TR finally brought it to life for me. It took me a long time to finish TR and I have fond memories of certain sections of the game. I'll see a part in the game and remember what day and time it was, you could say it's a time in gaming I'll never forget.
Since then I've been buying TR games, sequel after sequel. Hope to capture that feeling again. But alas, nothing can top the feeling of playing TR in 1996. TR was ahead of it's time and there were few games to compare it to at the time. I really think the original TR doesn't get the credit it deserves, because it gets lost the shadow of Mario64 and Lara's sex appeal, but TR really paved the way for games like the revamped Prince of Persia and God of War. Especially in the aspect of solving puzzles, climbing and jumping in a 3D space while looking at your character. TR really layed the ground work for that. I still say that TR came before Mario64. At least it was being worked on before Mario64. There was a poster of the Sega Saturn I saw once with a small screenshot of TR and it was circa 1994.

Super Mario 64 was FIRST being developed on the SNES. It was then moved to the N64, because of the limitations. That game was being worked on for YEARS. Sorry :-)

I should say after all that. That I pretty much enjoyed TR Anniversary on XBL. I was really excited about reliving those TR memories. But nope, even with the new graphics. I wasn't feeling it. I was kind of bored actually. It's like comparing to when I first saw Star Wars in a theater in 77 and then saw it in 97. Still great, but the wow factor was gone. Nostalgia is like that sometimes.

At 5 bucks I might just have to give this game a shot. I actually didn't know this one was a remake of the original until reading this article. XD I'm a little more interested now.
