Ooo I've been looking forward to this. The whole randomly generated guns thing sounds entertaining to me.

@Gehodra: That game was horrible. This game isn't developed by the same company, so hopefully it will turn out to be a hit. Here's to hoping! :)

I wasn't trying to compare the quality of the two games, I'm just saying Hellgate probably gives a good example of what to expect from randomly generated guns. Probably just a couple dozen base guns with a bunch of random mods. +% fire rate, + missile speed, etc...

From what I read about borderlands, the weapons are much more diverse than that. I remember one of the developers talking about thousands of weapons you can distinguish from one another, all made without human input. Sorry I can't direct you to the article, it's been a while, but I'm quite sure that's what I read.

Although I may talking out my ass.
Fart.

That article was in the September 2007 issue 173 of Game Informer that the game was featured on the cover. It had me really excited for the game, I honestly forgot all about it until this post.

I like this example from wiki: "We saw a ridiculous amount of guns, but perhaps the strangest was a revolver that fired shotgun shells. Gearbox is constantly surprised with what the system comes up with. They've seen rifles shoot everything from homing darts to rockets. 'One of the guns tracks onto something and locks, and after three seconds, [the target] suddenly explodes,' director Matthew Armstrong says."

Game Informer did a cover story on this game long ago. Reading it made me very interested in getting it.

If this game comes out as a polished experience I'll pick it up over COD 6: MW2. I'm burnt out on that series.

Also the Mad Max vibe I'm getting from this game is definitely interesting me.

How the HELL can you be burnt out on CoD? If you skip all the half-assed (granted World at war wasn't that bad) Treyarch versions of the game you probably wont get tired of it.

I'm with Rudolphe
Personally i stand firm in thinking Treyarch is not good at making CoD games.
Alos you may tire of playing W@W or CoD4 Singe Player/Online but what does that have to do with Modern Warfare 2?

Not a rant...You do, say and feel what you want, but i must say Joystiq has the most eclectic "posts" in the world lol.

Wow, I'm the only one here tired of this series and the constant milking from Activision? I liked COD 1 and 2. 4 was pretty fun (and fairly addicting multiplayer). But it was also really flawed. And I don't see Modern Warfare 2 being a drastic change from 4 I think, probably just a few new weapons and perks.

No thanks, guys. Activision can keep milking their franchises. As long as there's people like rudolphe around, they'll make their money.

I'm really looking forward to this game but it's hard. I wish games wouldnt be announced so early, because as it is, it's hard to keep up enthusiasm for it when I'm waiting a good couple years

I agree with you. Im starting to resent these games being announced before the devs have even reached basic milestones.

That being said. I'm really looking forward to Borderlands.

Well said Master Bruce

I can understand an announcement like, "coming in the future", but the Game Informer issue, had screen shots, story lines, character descriptions... sheesh.

If there was a part 1 that was successful a glimpse that there is going to be part 2 is fine, but even then going along with a new IP, why cover or divulge info on something that is no where near complete? 2,3,4 years later?

Never did like that.

PC Gamer UK has a 4 page spread on Borderlands, subscribers got their copies today. They've changed the art style, it's not in a sort of comic book / sketch cel-shaded style (think recent PoP) rather than the more generic brown / grey real world look they had previously.

It looks pretty awesome.

*sigh* I meant *now* in a comic book style, not "not".

Hmmm I dont know how I feel about that... Its still a first day purchase, but I was liking the realistic looks. Maybe they wanted to separate themselves from the herd?

They feared that while it looked good, it didn't "stand out as something unique". The style is a lot closer to looking like something hand drawn, they use hand drawn textures that get scanned in and coloured in Photoshop along with comic book style outlines around everything. It's not exactly subtle but it works really well in the screenies from the mag.

After all this wait, I hope to get what I'm paying for later this year. Can wait to get my hands on a sniper rifle with a revolving chamber.

Been waiting for this game for almost 2 years now. Its just a co op version of fallout 3 (wich is good IMO)

And just how did you come to the conclusion of it being a Coop version of fallout? If you've read anything about the game (which i'm sure you have since you've been waiting two years) you wouldn't have even made that ridiculous comment.

Gearbox is local to me here in the Dallas area. I've been in to play a version several weeks back as part of their Focus Testing. So I can confirm they are working on it. I was able to play for about 90 minutes or so on the Xbox360. A lot of the voice work wasn't in the game yet, etc. They said it wasn't even to Alpha stage yet.... but I signed a NDA, so I can't tell details...

Based of current game titles i look forward to this game personally but hope the game play is spot on. As for the ginormous amount of weapon looks and variations, well, i just want to see how that pans out. I am more interested in the story and game itself than hoping for 1000's of guns.

Word to the wise, If i remember correctly it is to be an RPG so those looking for L4D, CoD4, Halo style of play shouldn't expect that in this game. Of course i am just speculating, i could be horribly wrong since only time will tell.
