It appears that the ANIMUS has been fired up once again. A teaser site has appeared for Assassin's Creed 2, along with a host of clues about the future of the franchise. While the teaser leaves a lot to the imagination, it does feature Leonardo da Vinci's famous Vitruvian Man quite prominently, lending credence to the rumor that the sequel is set in the Renaissance era.
Beyond snippets of 15th century artwork, the teaser site doesn't reveal any other details for the Assassin's second outing. The website does, however, include an interesting bonus: Printing off a logo of an artifact that displays at the end of the teaser video and holding it up to a web cam while on a special section of the website reveals a 3D model of Altair's hidden blade weapon -- which appears to be one of five images available. Spooky ... but, hey, marketing team! Wasn't Altair (and the rest of his assassin brethren) missing a finger?
Update: Thanks to our commenters who pointed out a backwards message that says "Game Informer 04.16.09." Expect more Assassin's Creed 2 news soon!

Yeah they said from the start it was going to be a trilogy. I remember because they were announcing a bunch of trilogies at the time (Mass Effect comes to mind)

Assassin's Creed was a mixed bag, I loved the incredibly detailed cities and the controls.
I HATED the repetitive quests.
I mean why render a spot-on version of Jerusalem, and then have the character only do 3 things, over and over and over?
And I hope they let the game speak for itself instead of parading Jade Raymond everywhere.

They should add some unique multi-step missions involving actual characters with branching dialog (i.e. Oblivion, Mass Effect), maybe some instanced interior areas, perhaps a little bit of Tomb Raider-esque puzzle platforming, there are sooo many ways to improve this game. Also no more flag collection, or if they must then keep it reasonable: 20 flags in highly visible areas throughout the city.

I tried sending a tip about this but I kept getting an error message: at the end of the video it says "Game Informer 4.16.09" in reversed text.

Is it me, or is the fact that the Vitruvian Man missing his dong a bit obvious? Like someone took an eraser to it or something...
Now, I imagine they erased it as a matter of prudence, but... what if it tied into the story somehow? Oh god, make it stop...

I hope the game is actually worth playing to the end. I loved the style of the game and the story line but hated playing it.
I want to finish the game but I can't ever seem to put the disc back in my console.
Hopefully the many flaws with the first game will be corrected.

If it means any kind of closure at all from the first game, I'll probably have to get it. The first game wasn't even a cliffhanger – it literally had no ending.

Well, the overarching story didn't end, but Altair's involvement (which constitutes the vast majority of the game) definitely had an ending. Everything after that was an epilogue, really.

True, true... it did technically have an ending (a culmination of events, boss fight, etc.), but after all that I just kinda wandered around. It took me a few minutes to realize that there was actually no more game left. It felt cheap.
I eventually went back and played the game some more, though. And I've got 1,000 Achievement points to show for it. :D

Have you ever worn a shirt of mail? Chain mail drags you straight down when you hit water... Made perfect sense that he couldn't swim considering he had knives, swords, and even light armor...

I bought the Resident Evil bundle with the jasper chip after my elite got the e-74 error two weeks ago. It's quiet while playing game from disc, but when you install the game to hard drive you can't even hear it.

ok soo, Da Vinci style sketches, this is so going to be medieval, but no dragons and shit, but i think he may be able to fly due to the wing like structures on near the man and an updated knife?

Renaissance =/= Medieval times
The high middle ages began transitioning to the renaissance roundabout the late 1300s to early 1400s. This coincides with the Medici family's rise to power, controlling much of the money in Florence, the heart of the Italian renaissance. This was allowed to happen because the Church began throwing its money into fighting the Crusades during the so called "dark ages" which is where the first Assassin's Creed takes place.
Plus, Da Vinci was born around the 1450s, so any of his contribution to the renaissance wasn't until much later, so if the Da Vinci sketches are any clue as to the time period, I would place it in mid-renaissance somewhere around 1500.
There's your history lesson for the day.

I think the flying thing would be sick, i mean think about how cool it was to jump out of a plane and sky dive in san andreas. i think the wings would be a good way to escape off a rooftop. no more leaps of faith, instead you could just glide to safety. it gives a whole base jumping feel. and it works in the time frame that they want. how cool would it be if they linked da vinci and many other inventors and philosophers to the assassins. think about how many weapons da vinci invented, including the army tank. and shoes that could make you walk on water. i think it would be awesome and i wish people would stop downing the flying wings idea and give ubisoft a break.

I know I have a Elite Zephyr, it's fine when it has installs.. My brother either has a late Pro Falcon, or Jasper as it's dead quiet to me, though he hears it - it was running Tiger Woods 09 uninstalled, then here we have a L.E. Red Elite, definatly a Jasper.. I was stood next to 10 minutes til I noticed I couldn't here it.. I could swear it's quieter than my Wii.. on the dash, it's not been on Live yet for NXE..

Better variety and gameplay please. Otherwise it was an interesting game, and they definitely worked hard with the detail of the cities. Particularly Jerusalem.
Renaissance era is going to be bloody epic.

I loved Assassin's Creed - But the lack of variety stopped it from being a classic. Hopefully they'll redeem that with the sequel.
Can't wait to see more, i'm REALLY hyped for this.

It's worth noting that each of the nonsense words can be "decoded" by changing the letters to the one previous-- B becomes A, G becomes F, etcetera.
Efbui, Ifsp, Vqhsbef, Bobupns, Gmz;
Death, Hero, Upgrade, Anatomy, Fly
We've seen what happens with "Death" (the pictures show a five-fingered killin' stick?); my webcams all screwed up at the moment, but think anyone can try fiddling around with the others? Vitruvian Man might work for Anatomy, but I'm at a loss for all the other ones.
