As much as I loathe the DSi's slight alterations to the DS hardware, I would probably dislike a completely new product more a this point, especially if it weren't compatible with current DS games.

No kidding tmac,

Developing games for the core audience is important. They expect quality games. Look, there's 1 other there...Zelda. That one. and there's....well let's move onto the next subject. Now that we've covered the topic that Nintendo is helping support core-gamers by giving them worthy games like ...Zelda. and ....sooo moving on...

Get this - none of it was real

surprised that so many of you haven't caught on, especially when at this point it says it at the top of the website when you visit that Bob was making himself into an IRL parallel to the villian of the game.

I think it's still kind of strange, but it certainly got his name (and the name of the game) out there.

Hey Fatass, so I've heard none of it was 'real' and I've heard the littering bit at the Nintendo store wasn't real. But I don't get how what he did at the Nintendo store wasn't 'real'? I mean did the store employees already know what his plans were and in were in on it or what?

Insight, we all generally know the bit about it not being real and him acting as the game character, but the problem is that his bit turned us off to him, his game and his cause. So act like we are all stupid if you like, but the fact is that he shot himself in the ass with his actions.

You can scream excuses and stories from the mountain tops, but we generally don't like the guy and fail to feel bad for him now.

I don't see sony bending anyone over, as their lineup the past 2 years has been pretty solid.

You're a much bigger fanboy than I am samfish, I don't think anyone with a brain could deny that. I support 360/ps3, and you support nintendo. The difference is, you lap up everything and anything they say and do, while I am capable of criticizing all of them. Just look at last week when I bashed sony for their string of terrible announcements like a new ps2 jak. You would probably combust if you said that about nintendo.

Hmm...I was unaware that my frequently saying that NOA sucks, Reggie isn't doing a good job as President, DSi isn't worth the asking price, Nintendo's putting a game on the shelves 6-8 weeks after it's unveiled strategy is awful, WiiWare is a lost opportunity, blah blah blah equals me lapping up everything they say and do.

Sorry, buddy. The difference between me and you is that I don't hate any of the console manufacturers. I like them all and just happen to like Nintendo the best.
Also, you can own other consoles and still be a fanboy. I have a 360 and I admit to being a Nintendo fan. You also own a 360 and are a Sony fan. You usually just refuse to admit it, is all.

Tmac, pointing to an instance of you "bashing" anybody is a poor way to build credibility. Regardless of your ability to insult Sony as much as Nintendo, you still say a lot of unwarranted anti-Nintendo flame-bait. There are plenty of people who dislike Nintendo games, and respectfully state their opinions, acknowledge that they are just opinions, and don't feel the need to layer them with insultory remarks. These are the truly credible critics, the ones who can criticize without needing to have a personal vendatta against the company.

And samfish, myself, and most of the other Nintendo fans on Joystiq, despite what you may want to believe, actually do criticize Nintendo from time to time, just because our reactions to every little thing they do aren't nearly as radical as yours, doesn't mean we don't think it through.

It's awfully hard for me to be a sony fanboy when I'm doing 90% of my gaming on my 360. That was just something sprinkles threw out one day, and it somehow stuck with the geniouses here. Let's face it, if you're gonna believe something he says then there's problems that need to be addressed with a therapist or something.

Like Mr Khan explained one day, and I do believe this is the case. The people before me that spoke bad about nintendo were actual sony fanboys like killjebus so when I came along I automatically got tossed in that category with no acutal proof that I was one.

Again, you can own other consoles and still be a fanboy.
Prior to MadWorld, I had mostly been playing the 360 lately (since then I've been spending more time with the Wii, though). Does that mean that for the first three months of the year, I was no longer a Nintendo fan?

What was the last 360 game you were excited for, tmac? I can't really recall, unless you say Fallout 3 is a 360 game (I presume you're playing it on 360?). I do, however, recall in the last 8 months you hyping up (to various degrees) LBP and Killzone 2, saying how great you think the PSP is and then complaining about how you're disappointed that the new Jak & Daxter won't be on PS3. And that's just what I remember off the top of my head!
Yes, tmac, there is indeed a reason everybody calls you a Sony fanboy, but it's NOT because of Sprinkles' demented ranting against you.

That said, in fairness to you, I'm willing to concede that you're generally a lot more pessimistic towards games in general than I or even most people are.

Well as usual you're completely wrong again. I have never hyped LBP once and I still cannot bring myself to buy it because it's too casual. I would never hype a casual game, so that shows what little you know about me.

Hey samfish, how are you doing? ;]

You know very well that criticizing a company doesn't make an individual less of a fanboy, even Nando and Killjebus have done it!

and cmon, you are guilty of having defended Nintendo many times, heck, you were just doing so this weekend, at times even "bending over". From trying to discredit the PS2's ability to cater both casuals and "hardcore":

"The ONLY way you can say the PS2 pleased "casual" gamers is if you limit the definition largely to children and terribly licensed games. "

to still trying to claim that Nintendo is always ahead of the pack

"But, like analog sticks on moern controllers, PS fanboys like to rewrite history, I suppose..."

Why are you trying to make him look bad when you are as much of a fanboy as he is? Its not like he/she? was as bad of a fanboy (nor blind) as Nando or Killjebus or was a hateful moron like Sprinkles (I apologize, I forgot your original UN ._.)

In all fairness, most of us are fanboys, whether we like to be branded as such or not.

You had nothing but good things to say about it before you played the demo. I recall you saying, among other things, how some fan created levels were amazing and can't wait to see what others come up with, how you were having trouble getting a beta key etc etc.

If that's not being excited for a game, I don't know what is.

Although I'm waiting for that Sony PR piece that slams the DSi to get a story. Good Golly Miss Molly did that story ever set off a massive flamewar on Kotaku!

Anyway, I don't think the DSi is worth the asking price. I'd consider picking one up if it were maybe $150. $170 is way too much, though.
...although as with any gaming system, I reckon I could change my tune right quick if something on DSiWare comes along that I can't possibly pass up.

Throughout my gaming life, I have always skipped every other Nintendo handheld cycle.

GBC --> GBA SP --> DS Lite --> the thing after DSi that has actual improvements.

I skipped the clunky, unlit GBA, I skipped the clunky DS phat, and I will be skipping the DSi. Sure, I missed out on game launches this way and I will miss out on DSi launches, but there is always time to catch up to good games that came out a generation ago. It is in my nature to be a cheapass.

There's a good reason to overlook DSiWare, it's currently garbage. Until I see something decent there I have zero interest in the DSi. And to pay $170 for mediocre downloadable games is pretty ridiculous if you ask me. I love the Wii where it's an added bonus, but I wouldn't buy a second Wii if the first system didn't have the feature.

I gotta agree with Insight there. It's only been out a day, there's no basis for calling it complete garbage. The potential is definitely there. Think of all the homebrew stuff that motivates people to hack their DS, well we can have similar apps legally and probably better quality. Would suck to have to pay for it though, hope Nintendo keeps it reasonable.
But I feel you, ace, I won't be getting a DSi til I see better DsiWare...and they get some new colors.

There's plenty of basis for calling it garbage. When the Virtual Console came out we were promised some pretty great games and we EVENTUALLY got them. WiiWare has been the same as DSiWare is at it's earliest which is nothing announced that is worth a sack of garbage. I still don't have one single WiiWare game because they're all crap (except Dr. Mario but I really don't need another Dr. Mario game). Can I really expect good DSiWare? I seriously doubt it. Only if the big boys get into the mix like Capcom has with the PSN and Xbox Live, but why would they? They're doing pretty great with the PSN and Live and with the DS, and I presume those companies would rather just make a DS game than crappy downloadable garbage.

Obviously the DSi has plenty to offer and is worth the price since people on Amazon preordered it. Um wait...

Actually, I know I will likely get one soon, but that kind of argument doesn't work as a basis to get me to buy one. Tell me all the great stuff new it does and that people have bought it in large numbers after people have used it and commented on the difference.

It's pretty lame that Nintendo is saying that a lot of people should buy their stuff because a lot of people buy their stuff. Sounds like the definition of a fad to me (not saying that the DS/DSi is a fad). Pretty disappointing when that's a selling point though.

It's a nintendo service, so it's pretty safe to assume it's going to be overflowing with garbage. Look at the ds, wii, wiiware and vc. You have to work to pick out anything decent.

The real question is, will dsiware catch up to the amount of garbage that the iphone has? I'm sure if anyone could pull that off it would be nintendo.

The ratio is far better on PSN than it is on WiiWare. The 360 ratio is outta whack, but that's because it just has so many downloadable games up - has more bad games than WiiWare, but also has more memorable ones.
